We’ve not seen the (full) love story: missing scene(s) from The Lying Detective

“You seem so much better, John.”  “Yeah, I…I am. I think I am. Not all day, not every day, but, you know.” “It is what it is?”  “Yeah.” […]   “And Sherlock Holmes?”  “Back to normal.”

But, why is John so much better, and Sherlock “back to normal”? Well, they tell us: IT IS WHAT IT IS (says love). Love is the answer.

(An aside: of course that again confirms someone’s been spying on John and Sherlock’s private moments, and if the therapist is actually Mary (see Eurus is fake: MARY is the true EAST WIND)…then Yikes at her taunting John with “it is what it is.”)

The thing is, John doesn’t share everything with his therapist, he holds details back. I always thought it was weird that straight after The Hug scene we get this establishing exterior shot of 221B:

Why do we need this? We already know that we’re inside 221B for the hug, why do we need to fade out to this if we’re just going right back to the living room?

Because, it implies some distance. (Literally and metaphorically). Something’s being held back from us- temporarily. And here’s some proof: see this post by @waitedforgarridebs. We know that there was likely a scene in between that hug fadeout and John and Sherlock getting ready to go out to ‘the cake place.’

And, disregarding this missing scene, didn’t you get the impression that John was going to… say Something Else? He ‘seems so much better’- perhaps he had decided that the therapy sessions with a new face had run their course- time to go back to Ella?

And, of course, we have John smiling up there at the thought of his Sherlock doing well, too. I don’t know about you, but I was half holding my breath, expecting them to show us John and Sherlock, smiling and chatting while having cake or something.

The hug felt like a bridge on their road to proper communication: we almost had Sherlock finish this loaded sentence“Forgive me, but you are doing yourself a disservice. I have known many people in this world but made few friends, and I can safely say…” (x); We had John admit he “still wanted more”, ranting about ‘missed chances’ and how ‘romantic entanglement would complete Sherlock as a human being.’; We had Sherlock get frustrated at John’s wrong assumption about him and Irene: “Oh, for God’s sake, I don’t text her back!”

We knew what all of this was signposting towards: a romance between John and Sherlock finally blossoming, and being recognised for what it is. And we still know. The Final Problem is the horror film temporarily hijacking and interrupting our beautiful love story. (x

My prediction is that the next episode will open on John being shot in TLD, and we’ll get a ‘life flashing before his eyes’ moment: including these missing scenes, moments where they are much closer than normal- not a couple, not yet, but the audience will see their relationship is undeniably heading that way. And that will make the Garridebs moment even more gutwrenching, John lying there, thinking he will never be able to say the things he wanted to say and couldn’t…

And, of course, Sherlock will experience the same when he finds John. His “I love you” confession will save John Watson, and bring him back to life.

Yes, this, thank you very much @jenna221b! Honestly –and I’m sure I’m not the only one who felt like this– that bit in TLD before the hug, had me on the edge of my seat feeling exactly the same as when watching the tarmac scene in HLV. I thought that was it, that I was about to see a love confession; but again, it derailed into something else.

And adding to your analysis of John’s mood when talking to Eurus–actually the bit of dialogue that ellipsis refers to– he implies having spent quality time with Sherlock and Rosie. I wrote about it HERE, it’s clear John’s quoting Sherlock in the way he talks about Rosie, and he does it with the warmest smile on his face. Add to that what Sherlock told John about wanting to go to his house to see Rosie, and you can see it’s left implied that there’s quite a meaningful time-jump in there which was very important for both of them, and given that this is “The Sherlock and John Show”, if it was ommited, it’s because showing it would give something away… seems to me it’s the same reason why they told us Sherlock taught John how to watlz, but chose not to show it.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is such a beautiful thing. I could not get over–will NEVER be over–John’s body language in that final scene, as he’s sitting in the chair. It’s like he’s finally, FINALLY, allowed himself to relax. To understand that he really will be okay. Better than okay: brilliant.

Agreed, this is setting up something much more significant. Before s4 aired, the one thing I genuinely thought we were going to get–the one thing a lot of us thought we were going to get–was that flashback-with-clarification @jenna221b mentioned. YES!  I simply can’t believe that this setup was going to lead to nothing.

Completely agree with both of you! 😍

@groupkiller said: Eurus was very intent on finding out if John talked to Sherlock. She reminded him of Sherlock to see how he reacted. And when S and J communicate, she shoots him. If Molly was forced to keep Sherlock away, as many believed in TST, where she reminds herself to specify that JOHN sent her then that might be why she is having a bad day in TFP. She looks very Worried in TLD, maybe not just because of the drugs. John remembers her that way in his dream (if TFP is a dream) (and she mirrors him dying)

OH.

OH NO.

God if the therapist is actually Mary….then her saying “Good!” Oh, good that your life’s going well, that’s going make what happens next all the worse for you and Sherlock. Now, I truly am sorry John, but I’m going to shoot you now.

And if we take the theory that Molly was being threatened by Mary to give “John’s note” to Sherlock (more here and here)… has Mary told her that as long as John and Sherlock are kept apart, then everything will be fine? In TLD, when she appears at the house, she says she didn’t know John would also be there…with Sherlock…

And Sherlock tells her “I’m worried about you, Molly, you seem very stressed”- “I’m stressed, you’re dying!” Does she know that Culverton is part of Mary’s game? Is she going to ‘the cake place’ with them, forced to relay all that happens to Mary?

A Study in Soundtrack: S4 fuckyness™

Hi fam. I want to talk about Sherlock soundtrack from S4. I finally got my hands on the soundtrack and I’m shook. If I can do anything “meta,” this is it. Music is my division…

I have to talk about Eurus and John. Here are my two large points of concentration, followed by the musical evidence:

1. According to the music - all four personas that Sian Brooke plays (E, RedDress!Faith, Therapist, Sister Edgelord) except Faith have the “Eurus” theme, either in entirety or in bits. This is fucky™ because Faith is also the most suspicious one, as she’s associated with TD-12 and also has no trace of Eurus theme in the background. Who the fuck is she? Faith, instead, has a new theme during her hangout with Sherlock, and this is musically unusual and irregular. This has to be intentional. 2. Something terrible has happened to our John. He is not well, perhaps on the brink of death, as most of us are worried. And I’m afraid TFP is really the near-death shit that John is hallucinating.

Musical evidence: (interrupted by some random spewing of thoughts) - all track names are italicised!

(FYI I AM CRYING FRESH TEARS SO FORGIVE ME IF I AM REPEATING THE OBVIOUS or someone had already pointed all this out.)

  • Listen to “Who you really are” from TFP if you’re not sure what “Eurus” theme is. The first time we hear this shit is VERY early in TST, in major key, from the track called “59 missed calls.” The EURUS theme in major key. Fuck. It’s in the first bus scene with John and E.
  • You know where else the Eurus theme is played? “Cheating.” That’s right, the second bus scene when John’s all “I’m not free, can’t do this shit with you.” At the end of this track, the pitch pattern of “Eurus" is clear. BUT THIS TIME in minor key (WHY??), though it’s supposed to be the same girl. God I hate this show
  • Gunshot” (Mary’s death) has John’s Theme in it, but every time a chord plays it’s accompanied by a note that is half step lower. Like John is faltering, breaking down. This hurts.
  • The soundtracks from the scenes in TLD where Faith Smith is in don’t have the Eurus theme. She seems to have her own separate theme. If this Faith has indeed had chips with Sherlock AND is John’s therapist AND is E, she’s supposed to have the Eurus theme. (Sidenote, Sherlock actually sees Culverton and Faith’s photograph, which clearly shows the Morgue!Faith, not RedDress!Faith- but it’s just odd that he cannot tell that they’re different people even though he’s apparently a human weight scale even when he’s high)
  • I AM SCREAMING because “Anyone,” as in “I need to kill someone- who? - anyone,” HAS JOHN’S THEME HIDDEN, AUDIBLE BUT IT’S PURPOSEFULLY HIDDEN UNDERNEATH THE ORCHESTRA. WITH THE FOOTAGE OF JOHN’S FLAT. THIS IS A FORESHADOWING OF JOHN GETTING HURT BADLY I THINK. (however, still no Eurus theme)
  • Also, end me because the track called “Favourite Room” has John’s theme spread out in augmentation and it sounds like a fading heartbeat. Uh oh.
  • THIS PART IS FUCKY AF. “No Charges” in TLD also has the Eurus theme spread out. But guess where this music is played? This is when Lestrade and John watch the video in which Culverton Smith is “pressing no charges” and we see a footage of John starting to pin Sherlock to the wall. THE EURUS THEME. What the actual hell is this? Why use it here and not for Faith Smith while she was with Sherlock? ???????????
  • (crack theory: is the Eurus Theme actually “TD 12″ theme? Is that why every time we hear this theme involved, shit gets fucky?? Is that why Sherlock doesn’t hear the Eurus theme because he’s already high on other types of drugs? Is that why the entire TFP is laden with the Eurus theme? I’m so tired I’m just going to leave these questions here)
  • “In the Tower,” of course, has a blatant Eurus theme when the therapist turns out to be ~none other than Eurus.~ Also John’s theme in ~shocked~ pitches of high strings. #shook
  • TFP. Literally the entire soundtrack set is a variation of the Eurus theme and not much else (other than occasional Sherlock and John themes), which is worth noting. We immediately hear Eurus from “She was Different,” continuing in “3 suspects,”The Hall,” “I had no one,” “Open your eyes,” etc. …ALL THE WAY through the end. It’s as if they wrote this theme first and then used it strategically throughout the whole S4, but TFP is (in musical terms) theme and variations, instead of having multiple themes.
  • Excuse mE? “Pick Up” is the track during Molly’s phone call, but then as soon as Molly says “I love you” and the tension is resolved… why…are.. they.. using OBVIOUS snippets of the TLD HUG™ motif???????????? SUPER BLATANT that this is MEANT. FOR. JOHN. I REPEAT. THIS WHOLE SCENE IS MEANT FOR JOHN. THE COFFIN WAS MEANT FOR JOHN, “I LOVE YOU” WAS MEANT FOR JOHN. OH MY GOD. ok sorry that was obvious even without the music
  • Bones” is John’s well scene and, as you can expect, John’s theme is extremely subtle and weak. You can barely hear it. Another supporting evidence for John’s near-death theory.
  • UM??? “OPEN YOUR EYES” on screen was meant for Eurus but WHY AM I HEARING JOHN’S THEME? I MEAN I KNOW HE’S IN THE WELL BUT DOESN’T THIS MEAN THAT JOHN IS THE ONE WHO’S SUPPOSED TO OPEN HIS EYES like @marcespot‘s amazing videos?!?!?!?1

I’m so tired that I cannot go on right now. BUT LORD are we in trouble.

John agrees.

There has to be an explanation for this.

This is rather rushed and I´m absolutely horrible at drawing real people so it really sucks, but hey, it´s not like season 4 has been any different yet!

I made the promise to start drawing Johnlock if there´s none of it in S4. So this one goes out to @justcuriousandtransparent  <3

@dancingwdinosaurs   It’s amazing! I knew you would do great on drawing our favourite couple! And they look soooo gorgeous! I always loved their matching suits and this pose is definitely THE BEST :DD You should keep on drawing them even if the 4th season does not stay what it is (and what it is is shit as we all know) right now. Give us lots of beautiful johnlock-art ! <3

I understand a number of people are reblogging my previous post for the drawings, so I thought I’d post them again without the text wall. Feel free to reblog this post instead.

White and grey coloured pencils and grey pastel pencil on black paper. Both are A4.

I’M NOT FUCKING AROUND.

YOU THINK I WAS JOKING ABOUT MORIARTY BREAKING THE FOURTH WALL BY HACKING THE BBC TOMORROW TO TELL US ALL ABOUT MORE SHERLOCK FOOTAGE??? YOU THINK THAT’S NOT POSSIBLE BECAUSE IT’S TOO CRAZY?? IT’S NOT.  IT’S HAPPENING ON THE BBC ALREADY.

THIS IS THE SITE TODAY

AND THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU SHARE THE NEWS ON SOCIAL MEDIA:

THIS IS ALREADY HAPPENING.  I FUCKING TOLD YOU.  I FUCKING TOLD YOU. FUCK.

Okay I am not in the tinfoil hat crew so I am going to say this very calmly: Has anyone else tried hitting play on the “see the history of the Piccadilly billboards” (or words to that effect) further down the article? Because I did. Three times. And each time the same thing odd “glitch” happened. And I am at a loss to explain it…

I am very resistant to saying what the glitch was. Because I want independent verification. And the “video glitch” could be interpreted VERY easily as confirmation of at least two possible meta theories currently on the go.

Okay. I visited the page and tried it again and this time it did work. I got an ad for some random company. And then a Getty film on the history of the lights.

But I’ll stay quiet on the nature of the glitch i experienced on first 3 attempts for now just in case someone else comes on here screaming they saw [redacted]. I will then be firmly putting on a tin foil hat.

THE LITTLE GIRL IS NOT EURUS

IT’S JOHN

IT’S FUCKING JOHN

THIS IS THE PLANE SCENE

THERE IS NO ONE SITTING ON THE SEAT BETWEEN JOHN AND MARY

SAME THING WITH THE SEAT OF THE GIRL AND HER MOTHER

AND THE PEOPLE ON THE PLANE ARE SLEEPING IN BOTH SCENES

AND THERE’S A THUNDERSTORM OUTSIDE IN BOTH SCENES

JOHN IS DREAMING / HALLUCINATING

AND HE IS ON THE PHONE WITH SHERLOCK AFTER EURUS SHOT HIM

AND THAT’S WHY THE CARPET LOOKS LIKE A PUDDLE OF BLOOD

THE PLACE CRASH IS SYMBOLIC, IT MEANS THAT JOHN IS DYING

AND SHERLOCK IGNORING “VATICAN CAMEOS” IS ONE OF HIS FEARS

THE FINAL PROBLEM IS JOHN DYING

FUCK MEEEEE I AM SCREAMING, I AM ASCENDING!!!

bye dead here

OMG. OMG. OMG. Is this the reason why it is only the little girl and John who we hear during the entire conversation on the Bluetooth? They continuously interupt each other they never talk at the same time. Can consider this real TFP?

If this was not on purpose, why so many parallels?? Do they recycle scenes just because?…

Even without a secret episode, this interpretation works so well for me. That carpet in Eurus’s office is so striking. If it doesn’t foreshadow a big pool of blood, idk what does.

Furthermore, the moment that Sherlock finds the letter in 221B is never followed up on. In any other episode, that would be the moment he puts things together. He’s met John’s therapist and he spent the night with Eurus as Faith. There should have been a deduction at that moment. He should have realised, yet again, that John Watson is in motherfucking danger, and called the cavalry, and called Mycroft, and hopped in Mrs. Hudson’s car (she should drive, of course–we all know Sherlock drives like a regular gran because he’s scared of being pulled over).

But what SEALS THIS THEORY for me is this post ^ because STRIPEY SHIRT! That is John’s costuming right there. LOVE THIS. Love it. Love love love.

I’m gonna put my usual disclaimer here about tin foil hattery: I’m not willing to say it’ll happen until it happens, but I find this interpretation incredibly redemptive, so I’m sticking with it.

We were watching the PLAY

DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU HAVE GIVEN UP ON MOFFTISS AND DO NOT WANT TO HAVE YOUR HOPES CRUSHED AGAIN, AS THIS MIGHT BE UTTER BULLSHIT, but:

I just re-watched tfp to overanalyse the utter shit this episode was and found something that made me a little suspicious:

This shot is one of the cameras in Eurus cell. It is one of the recorded videos that show her manipulating the prison warden, and it reads 18992201.Of couse they could be random numbers, but I thought hey, why not strip them down. The first idea was a date, 22.01.1899, but I couldn´t really find anything.

But what if we seperate them? There have been numerous rumours that we might get a fourth episode next sunday and someone even found out that yahoo has a fourth episode listed.

The date for that episode is the 22.01.

Now we´ve still got 1899 left. A little google search on Arhtur Conan Doyle was done and I found THIS:

Conan Doyle wrote a PLAY in 1899 THAT DREW MATERIAL FROM SCANDAL IN BELGRAVIA, THE FINAL PROBLEM AND A STUDY IN PINK.

Now, lets see what we got this episode:

Honor Kneafsey

the girl who not only played the girl on the plane, but also one of the sisters at the beginning in A Scandal in Belgravia. (Plus: everyone on the plane in tfp was “asleep”, just like the dead people in asib)

A Study in Pink

basically the whole ending of this episode was asip flashbacks. We´ve got shock blankets, 221b, even the flippin text Sherlock send (You know where to find me. SH) is the exact same text he send to Lestrade in the beginning of asip. Everything is back to the beginning.

There is so much more to this, but I really want to believe I´m on the right track here. They promised us a rug pull, but they had to give us a rug first. This is it.

The reason TFP was so bad was because it wasn´t the original story. It´s a PLAY. In fact, this is THE PLAY where one of Conan Doyles famous quotes regarding his characters comes from:

Doyle later recounted how he had received a cable from Gillette inquiring, “May I marry Holmes?”, to which Conan Doyle replied, “You may marry him, murder him, or do anything you like to him.

THAT IS WHAT THEY DID. They redid 1899 and made us believe we we´re watching the original story. But it´s not, and we will have to wait to the 22.01 to find out what really happened.

(sorry if this was rambly. I am neither a good writer nor is my english good enough to put all my thoughts into words. but my key message is: if you are still willing to hope, please do!)

THERE IS NO WATSON IN MUSGRAVE

Guys. Friends. Pals.

I’ve just read The adventure of the Musgrave ritual" again, and it struck me: John can’t actually be at Musgrave if they are following the original.

The case is described as one of Holmes early ones when he just arrived in London. It is rare because it is actually told by Holmes himself, and he tells the story of Musgrave TO WATSON.

This is a quick copy paste:

“In the story, Holmes recounts to Watson the events arising after a visit from a university acquaintance, Reginald Musgrave. Musgrave visits Holmes after the disappearance of two of his domestic staff, Rachel Howells, a maid, and Richard Brunton, the longtime butler. The pair vanished after Musgrave had dismissed Brunton for secretly reading a family document, the Musgrave Ritual. The Ritual, which dates from the 17th century, is a riddle set in verse form. It reads:

‘Whose was it?’ 'His who is gone.’ 'Who shall have it?’ 'He who will come.’ 'What was the month?’ 'The sixth from the first.’ 'Where was the sun?’ 'Over the oak.’ 'Where was the shadow?’ 'Under the elm.’ 'How was it stepped?’ 'North by ten and by ten, east by five and by five, south by two and by two, west by one and by one, and so under.’ 'What shall we give for it?’ 'All that is ours.’ 'Why should we give it?’ 'For the sake of the trust.’

Now - read those last lines again: "What shall we give for it? - all that is ours. Why should we give it? For the sake of the TRUST.”

This concept of a riddle has been given to us in tfp too. And similar to the original it was a riddle to solve to find a secret place. So what were we told in the last ep, Over and over? THE SONG IS THE ANSWER.

John Watson has never been at Musgrave. He’s been told about it, BUT HE’S NEVER BEEN THERE.

Maybe the riddle really is the answer. Maybe they really want us to give it all that is ours, just for the sake of the trust. Maybe tfp really is just John Watsons dream/mind palace/vision and he has knitted one of the storys Sherlock told him into it?
