The sword that gives life

ind. selective Kamiya Kaoru from Rurouni Kenshin (variable verse, manga preferable, though I at times cherrypick the two. Have read manga more recently that I've seen the anime)

Kaoru’s got that look in her eye. That ‘I want to try to cook today’ look in her eye. And if people want to complain about it, well... Too bad?

I really love so much the Takarazuka version of Kaoru in Western dress, so I made my Fanart of it. I would like to see something like this in Hokkaido arc (if I can read it someday :,v )

((I have a lot of feelings about all of Kaoru’s kimonos being her mom’s, so any time one gets torn or stained, it’s a SUPER BIG DEAL to her. And sometimes she wants something new, but money can be kinda tight. So she does her best with what she has..))

I’m not sure if this is appropriate, but I just found out the mangaka of one of my favorite series allegedly owns child pornography. It’s not like I’m going to immediately disown the series and get rid any traces of it, but right now I’m really distressed that someone I looked up to turned out to be like this. I don’t want to support them, but at the same time I don’t want to let go of the series I’ve love for so long. How should I go about this?

[built-in content warning: cp tw.]

I woke up to this shocking news today and I’m horrified. What a shame.

Kenshin means a lot to me too, and just because the author is a horrible person that doesn’t make the power of what he created go away. Kenshin itself does not contain cp. it does not hint at cp. as a creation, it has no meaningful relationship with the author being a child abuser.

Everyone has to decide for themselves what they want to do regarding Watsuki’s creations, but your relationship with his stories are your own and separate from the author’s personal behavior. Continuing to love Kenshin is not endorsing Watsuki buying child porn - particularly when you fell in love with the story long before you had any reason to think ill of the author.

Personally, I will not buy merchandise or anything that might put money in his pocket, and I will be clear about denouncing his personal behavior when/if talking about Kenshin. I couldn’t endorse any future work from him. but I will still love this particular work, because Kenshin is a story about redemption that I needed when I saw it. (and that’s okay.)

(it also may be a slight comfort that the charges extend back to 2015 but not before. it doesn’t make this any less horrible a crime or less hurtful, but it makes looking back a little less painful to think he may have been different when he was writing Kenshin.)

((I was really considering coming back to this account, but the bomb that dropped about Watsuki this month is really making me question that.

On one level, this manga and character has been important to me in so many ways for a long time. But even if I usually have no trouble separating a work of fiction from its creator, these recent events leave a bitter taste in my mouth and leave me uncertain how to (or if I should) move forward with this blog))
