TEARS ~ PyeonChang 2018 Winter Olympics, Feb.17th
when everyone and their mother had something to say about you in their drama narrative this season and you have no choice but to prove them all wrong and rewrite the damn story yourself ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Tidbits of interviews with Shoma and Yuzuru, February 17th-18th
How do the medals feel?
Y: It’s heavy. It’s ordinarily heavy.
S: It’s…heavy.
Y: A little part of me started to realise that my time is limited, so I really felt the need to win this time.
S: I kind of guessed that I would end up second after my performance, so I was’t surprised [when the scores came out].
Y: I’m someone who wants every bit of happiness out in the world. But I realised I can’t have certain things without sacrificing others. I have really intense highs and lows. After experiencing the recent low, I just thought, “Let’s just throw all of my happiness away for the Olympic consecutive title.” I left behind every little thing that makes me happy. This made me be able to reduce my emotions heading into the Olympics to this size.
Live interview with Shoma and Yuzuru on “Going!”, February 17th
[U - Ueda, Y- Yuzuru, S - Shoma]
U: Gold and silver, you two have accomplished a great achievement. Are you alright? Is it straining your body?
S: No no.
U: Should I lift you up? You’re alright, yea? Hanyu, you have won your consecutive Olympic gold medal. How do you feel?
Y: I am relieved. I feel so fortunate, and very relieved, since I gave it my all for this.
U: Honestly, you were amazing. And Uno, you won the silver medal at your first Olympics. How has this Olympic experience been for you?
“I’m pretty sure, 90 per cent sure, my life isn’t going to be much different,” he says. “I’m going to wake up the next day, brush my teeth. That’s it.” (He’s also going to shave, if he can find shaving cream—the reason he had a slight moustache on Friday is because he couldn’t find any.)
“It’s kind of funny,” he adds. “Like, ‘Oh my God it’s the day, it’s going to be the last skate.’ I’m going to be still skating after this. And I’m still going to be around. I’m not falling off the face of the earth.”

A thread from @alexshibutani’s Twitter:
Last night was a dream that became a reality. @MaiaShibutani and I have worked so hard for this! Proud to be the first ice dance team of Asian descent to win a medal at the @olympics.
When we started skating together, Maia and I didn’t see any teams on the ice that looked like us. There weren’t too many sibling teams either.
Being so “different” could have been a warning sign… but we were 9 and 12 years old and didn’t see ourselves as “different”. We were just having a blast skating together.
Throughout our career (14 years and counting), we have had to, and will continue to push past stereotypes, labels, doubters, and cynics.
We have become successful BECAUSE we are siblings and family. Not in spite of that fact. We have challenged ourselves to grow, innovate, and embrace what makes us different from other teams BECAUSE our differences are what make us unique.
When someone tells you that you can’t do something or that your success will be limited because of how you look, or who you are, keep moving forward. Set yourself apart by finding a way to utilize your strengths. Never stop believing in yourself.
Believe in your dreams and surround yourself with people who nurture and believe in your dreams as much as you do. Sometimes the journey can be lonely, but fortunately, Maia and I have always had each other.
You don’t have to look like anyone else. You don’t have to be, or skate like anyone else. You don’t have to fit the mold or follow the path that everyone else is on. Just find, and be yourself. (at PyeongChang)
