How to deal with a concept you do not understand

  • Breathe. If you are starting to feel flustered, stressed, frustrated, take a break. The more angsty you feel, the less likely you’ll be able to focus on the actual concept. Take a break, study something else, but make sure when you’re trying to tackle a difficult concept, you are calm, cool, and collected.
  • Re-read your notes. This one is obvious but ask yourself if you’re actually re-reading your notes or if you’re just glancing over the page. Sometimes it helps to rewrite your notes in a different way.
  • Read someone’s else’s notes. Sometimes reading something in a different way can help you understand a concept you are struggling with.
  • Ask someone but make sure whoever you’re asking won’t confuse you further. To be safe, ask a TA, your professor, or an experienced tutor. I cannot count how many times I’ve casually asked someone to explain a concept and I end up leaving 10x more confused. Make sure you’re asking the right people.
  • Google it. Seriously. There are many amazing resources out there that may be as close as the click of a button.
  • Re-watch a lecture, if possible. Some professors webcast their lectures and going over your notes while listening to them is really helpful when you can’t quite grasp a concept.
  • Be patient. Sometimes, you’ll need to work at a concept over a number of days and that’s perfectly okay. The most important part is that you try your best to understand and that you realize everyone learns at different paces.
  • Do NOT wait until the last minute to tackle a difficult concept. Procrastinating on this kind of stuff right up before an exam can increase your anxiety and deplete your self-confidence. Make sure you tackle these difficult concepts as soon as you encounter them so you can take your time to understand everything.

If you’re a stationery lover there is no doubt that you’re always looking for new places to shop because you can never have enough notebooks or pens! Buying stationery gives us all an illusion of productivity and who isn’t willing to pay for that? I’ve complied a list of stores I’ve come across and think deserve sharing! Just to note some of these do have physical stores or only ship to certain places. I’ve tried to find out their shipping policy but be sure to double check. Anyways, here is a list of all the stores (I’ve * my faves).

Stationery stores

Etsy stores

If you’ve got a store you’d like to recommend don’t hesitate to message me! Hope you like this post and find some cool new stores to shop at x

look around you, and notice the beauty. of the light shining through the trees onto the ground, of the beautiful blue eyes belonging to a stranger, of the cold breeze making you feel alive, of your fingers moving to the beat of a song, of the landscape in the window passing by you on the train, of the softness of fabric on our skins, of the black ink words were printed in. there is so much beauty in our everyday lives we fail to appreciate.

18.01.2017 – I had my first dissertation supervision today in Emma, which was so v helpful. I spent all day in the geography lib reading relevant literature and trying to finalise preliminary hypotheses/methodologies/foci, and my supervisor managed to help achieve this all in 25 mins. Exciting to know what I’m doing now with more clarity!!

🤗2017 YEARLY CALENDAR PRINTABLE ❕❕❕

Hello, hello!

Today, I decided to make another calendar printable in preparation for university and general productivity. Towards the second half of 2016, I began using a yearly calendar spread to track the days in which I studied. After about a week of solid productive work, I found myself not wanting to “break the chain” that I had previously created by not studying. I found this method really effective for me and wanted to continue this habit into my studies during the new year. I implemented the same colour and font scheme of my previous monthly printable (which if you haven’t seen yet, you should totally check out 😏) into this printable.

I couldn’t decide if I liked the dark or light header better for this printable, so…  por qué no los dos? 🌮

You can download a free PDF version of this printable here:
Light version
Dark version

If you are curious, and want to read more about this productivity tip, you can do so here! I believe it was first publicly coined by Jerry Seinfeld as “don’t break the chain”, however, I am sure that this is nothing more than another analogue interpretation of a daily habit tracker.

If you decide to try it out for yourself, I would love to see it! Just post a picture of it and mention me (@rin-study) in your post. Any re-blogs would also help a lot (only if you think it’s worthy though 👍).

I would love to hear your feedback and thoughts! Also, if you want you can request other projects… I would be happy to create some more printables as I am on holidays right now (TBH I have nothing else to do).

Anyways… HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!
