A gift for @dunloth as a part of the @kakairu-discord-server’s 95 minute exchange.

The key words were: coastline/beaches, a photograph of the other one, a Hawaiian shirt, a vial of poison.

It turned out to be a modern au where Kakashi dated Iruka after yet another messy breakup with Obito. But he couldn’t fully move on, and as soon as things with Iruka got serious, he suddenly broke things up and got back with his childhood sweetheart.

Sharingan pseudo-genetics

So tumblr user @asotin got an anon ask speculating on the genetics of the Sharingan and I decided to actually look at this, as someone with biology training. That said, this is a ninja anime, and there’s only so much I can do. Big thank you to asotin for giving me reference information on Sharingan. Another thank you to @dunloth for talking through some of the biology possibilities with me when I hit a wall.

I say pseudo because as we know Kishimoto cannot keep anything in order and there’s so much information that we don’t have that would be useful for more analysis. in this brief analysis I am using man to refer to XY chromosomes and woman to refer to XX chromosomes. This is for purposes of genetic inheritance and illustration - I am in no way suggesting these chromosomes are a requirement to be a man or a woman. they are not. We’ll set this up and say that the regular Sharingan is a dominant trait with first onset around puberty, although there are cases of earlier or later awakening. This is why basically every Uchiha we interact with in the series has a Sharingan. Dominant trait, meaning a Uchiha only needs one allele out of two possible alleles for the Sharingan gene. Here are a few possibilities for the mangekyou Sharingan: Take one: The mangekyou Sharingan is linked to the Sharingan gene and alleles and is a recessive trait in addition. The mangekyou can be activated by a traumatic event, resulting in chemical changes turning on the expression of the associated gene.

You totally fucked up the first one. If the mangekyou needs two X chromosomes, how the fuck men have it

@phosphatidylcholine I think you got it wrong. With X-linked recessive inheritance people with only one X chromosome always have the trait. People with two X chromosomes need both instances of it to contain the gene.

SATOSUGU BINGO EVENT 2022 - INTEREST CHECK

Hello! 

This is an interest check for a SatoSugu / SuguSato Bingo Event for the year 2022! What is a bingo event you may ask? A signup-only fan creation event for the pairing SatoSugu / SuguSato (Gojo Satoru and Getou Suguru). Each participant will be given a custom bingo board card containing prompts. You can either create art, fanfictions, socmed, podfics, etc. with the prompts in your bingo board.  This is a sign-up event so we can personalize your cards, but no minimum work is required - meaning, you’re free to do everything in your bingo card or not. This is a carefree event to show our love for our boys.

It’s that time of year again: time for the sign-ups for the Dokuga Holiday Exchange!

GUIDELINES PART II

- The whole point of this is to be a gift exchange. To get a gift, you must give a gift. If you drop out or disappear, your gift will be given to the group as a whole. Those who disappear without word will be banned from the exchange for one round.

- The story/art must be centered around the Sess/Kag pairing. It doesn’t necessarily have to be focused on romance - it can be based on first impressions, friendship, even some sort of hatred. Side pairings are fine, just as long as it focuses on the relationship between Sesshoumaru and Kagome. This is a Dokuga Holiday Exchange, after all!

- Gifted works must be new to the exchange. Sequels to previous works, new chapters to a current story, ‘deleted scenes’ from other stories, or anything related to any of your previous work isn’t allowed.

-The story/art can be any genre, though you should go by the prompts given to you to make your best judgment. If your prompts are vague, do your best to work with them. But please pay attention to what is requested to stay away from. If a platonic relationship is requested, do not give a romantic one. If you have any questions about the prompt requested, you can always ask me for clarification, and I will pass your question or concern on to the appropriate person. Please DO NOT contact your giftee directly as your giftee is not supposed to know who the gift is coming from.

-For prompts this year please pick 1 prompt from one of these two lists that you would like your gift to be based on:

- All ratings are welcome, but if you have a rating that you refuse to write or wouldn’t like to receive, please make note of it whenever you sign up.

- When working on your piece, please keep in mind what the recipient wants. If they ask for certain things to be used or not used, please follow them. Usually, there is nothing demanding in the requests; mostly just small things like the type of relationship or universe.

- If you are new to the exchange, please provide a link to a story (in any fandom) that you’ve written that is more than 1500 words. Drabble collections do not count. You can link to a one-shot or even an incomplete epic you’re currently working on, just as long as you can prove that you can meet the word count minimum.

- There will be a three strikes policy. I simply do not have the time to go chasing after everyone who signs up for the exchange, therefore there will be a three strikes policy as far as contacts/behavior go. If you ignore/fail to answer any correspondence within one week of sending, you will have a strike against you. Three strikes, you’re gone from the exchange.

- Please add the exchange email (dokugaexchange@gmail.com) to your contacts so you can avoid anything from us hitting the spam filter.

Explanation of Age Statement:

Again I will be asking for a statement of age (example: ’I am over the age of 18’/’I am under the age of 18’). The purpose of this is to prevent minors from gifting or being gifted with works that are rated MA. The official rule on Dokuga is: ONLY users ages 18 and up may read or post MA rated work, 16+ for rated M. As this exchange is affiliated with Dokuga, I will be following the same rules on ratings as are followed at the main site. That being noted, if you falsify your age statement you will be removed from the exchange and receive an email notifying you why you were removed.

- Real life does get in the way sometimes, so if you have to drop for any reason please let me know as soon as you possibly can. I understand that you’ve got other obligations, and am not going to be angry with you should something come up. The code word is oak tree. I will be angry, however, if you’re putting things off and finally fess up after your second extension and the posting date is looming. Should you drop, with or without word, the gift prepared for you will be shared for the group as a whole.

- It is your responsibility to have your story beta read before you send it in. We are looking for stories that are in their final polished form, not something that is hot off of the press. I simply do not have the time to beta every story that comes in. If you do not have a regular beta, you can look for someone on the Dokuga Forums, or on the SessKag Discord servers.

- Should a story come in that does not meet the requirements, the mods reserve the right to reject the piece and ask you to correct it. Ignoring this request is grounds for your removal from the exchange.

- Stories should be sent to the exchange email, dokugaexchange@gmail.com. Either attach in .rtf format, as a googledoc, or add it directly into the body of the email. If anything is sent in any other format, you will be asked to send in the preferred formatting.

- No posting of stories elsewhere until after the big reveal on New Year’s Day. The whole point of a secret gift exchange is to keep it a secret. I will let you know when it is clear to post your stories on your own sites.

- Keeping with the above statement, please don’t give out the name of who you are doing a gift for. Blowing the secret ruins the fun!

🎆🎇Spotlight Saturday🎆🎇

Here are we again, another Saturday, another Spotlight! And it’s actually on a Saturday too! And this weeks Spotlight: @dunloth!!!

Before I begin with this week’s spotlight, some things to note:

That all said, here we go with this week’s Spotlighted Author (and artist):

As is the recent theme, I’ve only started reading Dunloth’s works maybe 2 or 3 months ago? And actually, I only got to know Dunloth a few months ago after I joined the @tenzoscabin Discord Server. There, I got to know this really kind and really talented author! 

I think the first fic I ever read by Dunloth was actually The Sixth Element back in May. For a fic that was written in only 90 minutes, that is one amazing story!  But, that’s not the only amazing 90 minutes written story by Dunloth. There’s also this one Without the Mask Where will you Hide with some lovely art drawn by @animetrashmuffin who was inspired by it! 

Besides being a master at writing fics in 90 mins (and that is hard work, so kudos to Dunloth!) Dunloth is also extremely talented because their mother tongue is not English, but Spanish! That’s right: Dunloth works hard and writes fics in English for us to enjoy even though it’s not their mother tongue! How amazing is that? And Dunloth actually does have fics in Spanish in the Naruto fandom! For those who are curious, here’s a link to las historias de Naruto en Espanol! 

And you know how at least one artist was inspired by @dunloth​’s works. Well, they’re not the only one. Take a look at Looking at You, yet another fic which inspired an artist to draw! In Chapter 8, the amazing @sinyaru​ drew this! 

This is yet another amazingly talented author whose work I have shamelessly not read. (I’m catching up slowly: I promise!) What I have read though is amazing. In fact, it is so good that I have told Dunloth their depiction of ANBU Kakashi is one of my writing goals. Seriously, if you’ve never read Dunloth’s work or don’t know if you’d like to, I highly recommend reading their work Safety Regulations. 

Jounin at Twelve  is another fic of Dunloth’s that I really like along with Once More with Feeling . 

And let’s not forget So Close and Yet so Far written in 2019. Another absolute MUST READ! 

And which ones does @dunloth​ recommend as their favorite fics written by them? 

How about Stranded: a KakaIru Space Pirates AU? Or what about Pillow Talk for Fake Lovers? Or better yet, what about a nice Kakashi Birthday Fic (in celebration of Kakashi’s upcoming birthday) such as Mid-Life Crisis? 

And that is just the bare bones of Dunloth’s writing. 

I’m telling you, half of my Naruto “Marked for Later” reading are solely Dunloth’s works. I’m really excited to sit down and read them when I have the time because so far, everything I’ve read has been SO GOOD! And I really do mean that. Dunloth has a gift for writing Kakashi so well, so in character that you can’t help but think: “Wow, that was a really good story!” And like I said before, Dunloth is my writing goals when it comes to ANBU Kakashi. They write him so well there!

In fact, Dunloth writes so well that I recommend everyone to click here and go read their stuff on A03! 

Oh, and for those of you like me who like a good soulmate AU from time to time, let’s not forget Dreamscape. It’s still a WIP, but hey, if a good author needs time to write, then I will humbly wait (and eagerly too) and click like crazy when that new chapter drops because I know that story will be good! 

AND WAIT! That’s not all of Dunloth’s writing! 

Before writing for the Naruto fandom Dunloth wrote a lot of fanfiction for years, en espanol, for the Buffy the Vampire Slayer fandom. If you’re curious and can read Spanish, or are going to teach yourself Spanish as you read along (like me) then take a look at dunloth’s Spanish Buffy fics here!  (The pseud name is different! It’s delirante!) 

Oh, and for those of you who have a twitter (and for those of you who just so happen to have Dunloth in one of your servers) you may know that Dunloth always finds the most amazing art to share from there! In fact, there’s a lovely Irezumi piece of artwork that Dunloth shared (after finding it on Twitter) that may or may not have inspired a story for me. 

I’ve only barely covered the amazing stories and writing Dunloth has shared with us. BUT, if you are anything like me and love to read good fanfiction, you now have yet another author that you should add to your “I want to read” pile! Trust me, you won’t regret it! 

OH…AND FINALLY: THANK YOU so much Dunloth for being such a supportive fandom friend over the past few months. You’ve been so nice to me as I share my writing, even giving me advice on a few of my own stories! Thank you! And THANK YOU for sharing so much of your lovely writing with us!  You’ve created a fan out of me, and I don’t think this fan is leaving anytime soon!
