In the basement of the clinic, Jack looked up at Adrian as the vibrations shook the walls; it was a familiar sound. One he’d heard the day they met Tyler and Charon. “Sounds like they’re back.”

“Sure does.”

“You heard right.” Nick smiled, greeting the girl. “Man, Kent, I’m impressed. You’re fulla’ surprises.”

Charon looked up, absolutely stunned at the sight. He’d never seen anything like it.

Sinjin dismounted, giving their large, armor-clad ride a pet on the side before reaching up and gesturing to Kent. “I’ll help ya down. Just mind your bandage.”

Charon closed his eyes, and breathed a tired sigh. Edward was right; even if he wouldn’t necessarily be able to sleep, the least he could do was try. He was definitely going to need it.

Jack could sense his turmoil from clear across the room. “Hey, kiddo… I have no doubts your nerves are a wreck… do you want something to help you rest? There are some sleep aids on the coffee table.”

He couldn’t muster mental, or even physical energy to protest, so he nodded. Part of him wanted to be annoyed at the offer, but part of him knew it was just Jack’s way of trying to help. “Thanks.”

He took two of the tablets and kicked back on the couch, closing his eyes and trying his best to just tune it all out and get some sleep.

Edward smiles at him and pats his head. “We’ll get sunshine back. I promise son.” Goes to his bed relaxing down holding jack close kissing his neck.

The next day was the big day Edward lead through the ruins and the deathclaw riders slipped through the cover of darkness in the early morning. They would have it completely surrounded before any of the brotherhood could do anything.

Tyler was weak as he glanced up looking out at the wasteland his arms bound in the metal clamps and whimpering as the needles had pierced his arms dripping blood around him and whimpers seeing the fresh non radiated plants around him where his blood hit soil. He glanced up as maxon walks over. “Smell that radiated air.... soon to be purified. Glorious.”

“I’m fine.” Charon grumbled. “Already got what I needed earlier.”

“Better get my boots on, then.” Nick wrapped an arm around John and gave him a gentle squeeze and a smile. “Cuz I get the impression that the shit’s about to get deep.”

Edward shook his head as he shoulders his weapons again and headed off to find jack possibly for a small make mout session just to make sure his nerd still knew he loved him.

Kent hugs Sinjin. “We’ll go help set up the deathclaws. There so snuggly. One even sat on Sinjin like they would when keeping there eggs warm. That means she really likes you.”

John grins. “Don’t forget your coat.. and hat…. mhmm damn sexy….in two days we storm that fucking place and take our sunshine back.”

Sinjin chuckled and hugged the small ghoul back. “I know it’s a gesture of affection but I’d rather not get sat on again.” He followed Kent’s lead to their new destination, waving briefly to Charon in an unspoken “take care.”

Nick laughed. He wrapped an arm around John’s shoulders and squeezed a bit. “Definitely gonna’ need ‘em.”

“Want me to see if I can’t upgrade ‘em a bit for ya before we head out?” Adrian asked. “Don’t need your new body gettin’ messed up already. I put a workbench in at Jack’s place; God only knows how long he and Edward are gonna’ be, so… may as well do something useful while we wait.”

Kent smiles and pulls Sinjin along leaning against him obviously very much in love with the other ghoul which was amazing from how he was before.

John smiles kissing at nicks jaw nipping at his ear lobe and nuzzles. “Yes please Adrian…. scars are sexy but I want to keep him while for as long as possible. Mhmmm Yes…” purrs hugging him.

I’m the clinic Edward was hugging jack purring lightly himself as he just held the smaller man. “Two days….. and you better stay far from the firefight ok….. you promise me…”

Sinjin smiled, returning the gesture and taking comfort in his closeness and warmth. The thought of where all this could lead scared him more than he cared to admit, now that he actually gave half a damn. But whatever was going to happen, he was thankful for every moment he’s gotten with Kent, especially after everything before. He threaded his fingers through the small ghoul’s and gave his hand a firm squeeze. “Love you…”

“Hate for anything to happen before I even get to properly break this thing in.” Nick chuckled, returning John’s affectionate gestures. Adrian smiles and nods, and leaves the group to see what he can do for Nick’s clothes.

“That’s a tough promise to make, given the circumstances, but I’ll do my best. I think we’ll be far enough away, though. But promise me you’ll be careful, too.” As if Edward was ever not careful. His hands rested against the ghoul’s back, and his thumbs traced light paths along the fabric of his coat. “If anything happens to you, Edward, I…”

God, just the thought made him sick with worry.

Kent keeps hold of him as they head off to rest for the big day tomorrow.

Everyone went to rest. They had a goal tomorrow. The big fight and it was not going to be easy at all.

Edward held jack close nuzzling then motions to Charon. “Charon... kid.... you need to rest. If you don’t.... you won’t be top shape tomorrow.”

Adrian stared in awe for a moment before shifting his attention back to Edward. “You said we… was that a voluntary escort?”

“If he doesn’t, I’ll go.” Charon rasped. “The quicker we get you there the quicker we get the ball rollin’.”

Edward nods. “Jacks busy getting supplies for the wounded. This will keep me from bothering him to much. Let’s get going. John....get everything set up. When we get back... it’s go time.”

John grins nodding.

Kent slides down into sinjins arms and smiles wrapping his arms around his neck and kisses him. “Told you you’d like rose.”

“Remind me not to get on her bad side.” Nick chuckled, joining Edward in checking out the cavalry. “This is… this is really somethin’. John, you should come check this out!”

“Yeah, ya did.” Sinjin chuckled, holding Kent up off the ground as he returned the kiss, and peppered his cheek with a few more. Finally content, he lowered Kent until his feet touched the ground, though he still kept him wrapped in a warm embrace. “You still feel alright?”

John peeks out the door eyes wide and sides up to nick. “Holy shit………” Looks to nick whispering. “I have a huge boner right now. There is so much raw power in this court yard.”

Myra grins getting the other handlers to take the deathclaws further in to rest up and get checked ready for battle.

Kent nuzzles. “It’s sore but I’m ok.” Giggles when rose Nuzzles at his back and turns kissing her snout. “Pretty girl.” Smiles as she gives a rumble like purr.

Nick chuckled, feeling a warmth in his cheeks, discreetly, quickly glancing downward. “You ain’t wrong. About either.”

Sinjin smiled contentedly, reaching up to pet her again. He caught a glimpse of Charon approaching them out of his peripheral, and invited him closer. “Hey.”

“Uh… hey.” Charon fidgeted nervously for a moment, looking up at the deathclaw admirably. “Can I… can I pet her?”

“C'mere. Let ‘er sniff ya first.”

John grins at him and kisses him then yelps as he was snatched up by a death claw and then licked on as if he’s being groomed.

Kent smiles and motions rose to charon. She looks at him sniffing then gives him a big lick nuzzling him.

Nick blinked in surprise, but he found himself grinning at the mere sight of it. “Seems ta’ like ya quite a bit. Not sure I wanna share ya though.”

Charon’s eyes grew wide, but he raise a hand to pet Rose on the nose. She seemed very receptive to him.

“I’m sure there’s a joke to be made here about a ‘Rose of Charon’ but it just ain’t comin’ to me.” Sinjin chuckled a bit.

Kent smiles. “Oh I loved those trees before the war. So pretty.” Smiles and hugs Sinjin and kisses him a few times.

John smiles patting the deathclaw and wipes off the drool. “I think we got a great chance to get those brother hood bastards back.”

Sinjin smiled and kissed back. “Bet they were.”

Charon looked over at John and nodded solemnly. He had faith that if they all put their heads and their resources together, it was certainly doable.

They had to get Tyler back. They just had to, he thought, clenching his fists.

“That’s some pretty kick-ass backup, Kent. Impressive.” Adrian whistled, approaching them.

Charon looked at him quizzically. “Where’s Jack?”

“Jack’s still inside puttin’ the finishing touches on the new dish for the artifact weapon. I think it might come in handy.” The general responded. “I’m about to head to see Des, too. See if we can’t get some more manpower from the Railroad.”

John nods as he lets the deathclaws go rest up. Then turns to nick and grins and kisses him. “A deathclaw army... only shit man.”

Edward grins. “Adrian we’ll need to move fast.... charons at his limit with waiting and even I and starting to get my limit with out Tyler here safe..”

“… thanks, Tony. John.” Charon breathed a sigh of relief, his stance softening a bit. Finally, something to give him even just the tiniest glimmer of hope. “This means more than you’ll ever know.”

But he soon blinked in surprise - not just at Tony’s sudden turnaround, but at the realization that it was John. Wasn’t he at the Memory Den with Nick? And who was the strange man with him? “Wait… who… who’s that?”

“Ya don’t see that every day.” Nick mused.

“No but it certainly sounds useful.” Adrian smiled. “Sounds good, Kent. Much appreciated.”

“I can take ya.” Sinjin spoke quietly to Kent. “Don’t need you gettin’ hurt again.”

“Oh yeah…” Adrian said. “Jack, I had a question. About the artifact gun.”

The doctor looked up at him.

“You think you can rig it up to something bigger? If we can build a big enough dish for it, and generate enough power to it, it could really come in handy.”

“I don’t see why not.”

Kent smiles kissing sinjins cheek. “You’ll Love buttercup. And as for that starlight it’s like that episode of the silver shroud where they used s starlight dish to destroy a enemy ship.”

John smiles. “Just like that Kent. Sinjin… take Kent to get his friends…. but be careful please.”

Kent smiles looking up at Sinjin and kisses him again. “As long as I’m with you I’m safe. Let’s go see the cute deathclaws.”

“I’ve got him, John. Promise.” Sinjin smooched Kent back affectionately. “Gonna see if we can’t find him some ballistic weave before we leave, though.”

Adrian chuckled in mild amusement at the sight before looking back at Jack. “Mind if I use the work bench in the basement?”

“Help yourself.” Jack smiled. “Actually I think I’ll close up for a day or two to help prepare for… all this. If you want to go ahead and start, I’ll be down shortly to help.”

The doctor thought for a long moment before turning to Charon. “You wanna help us with this?”

“I’ll help wherever I’m needed.”
