A Pretty Good Night

This is a quick drabble for a friend based on my RWBY AU. Kinda requires some knowledge of the AU to really get the full context but it’s fairly self-contained. There are some references to events that didn’t happen in canon (this AU is canon divergent after Volume 2) and has a couple OCs in it. The time period it takes place is in Volume 4, so it’s the fourth semester at Beacon. Note that Qrow is Summer’s brother in this AU.

Pairing: Yang Xiao Long/Male OC

Notes: fluff, angst, hurt/comfort (and a reference to alcoholism)

Word count: 4,187

She told us, ‘Do not bring the Second Amendment into this courtroom. It doesn’t exist here. So you can’t argue Second Amendment. This is New York.'

Judge needs to be fired immediately. There is no justice here, just leftist tyranny.

Well he's got his appeal already written for him.

God I am sick and tired of people uwu-washing indigenous American history.

Did the Inca have exquisite building techniques, efficient messengers, and quality waterworks? Yes. They were also an expansionist empire built on violent conquest and the splitting up and relocating of conquered peoples.

Did the Aztecs have a gorgeous capital city built at the heart of a lake, with floating farms and towering temples honoring their fascinating pantheon? Yes. Guess what tho. They were also a violent expansionist empire who practiced ritual sacrifice of prisoners of war.

The Iroquois confederacy had one of the most unique representative political systems I’ve ever heard of, with women taking a forefront in most local government matters too. But their internal peace allowed them to redirect violence to their neighbors, as so often happens with tribal confederations, and they eventually violently conquered the Ohio valley and destroyed or displaced dozens of other indigenous groups.

Even my beloved Cahokia has the graves of sacrifice victims amidst its ruins.

A society should not need to be (and fundamentally cannot be) squeaky clean unproblematically stannable in order to be worth studying and remembering, and pretending that they were is no less disinformative than the European accounts painting them as godless savages.

Had a student this semester ask something to the effect of, "didn't the Indigenous people live together in harmony before the Europeans showed up?"

"No."

Really, it just becomes so much easier when you remember they were just people, with all the vices and virtues therein, not some magical elves or fairies who carry the natural essence of our lands.

The issue is that people think, "Group that was oppressed at some point" and then their next thought is, "They must have been innocent little angels". Honestly it makes me a bit sad. If for not other reason than it shows how absolutely stupid they are.

But this right here? This is the bulk of history. And it's the truth. And I don't know when the powers of the world decided, "You know what? Let's install this white supremacist narrative of the all powerful white at the top. Then we can argue for supremacy and oppressor at the same time. Wouldn't that be awesome?"

It's a headache and just....ugh. People need to learn that oppression didn't just get created because of skin color one day. That's factually inaccurate. And it's not just the west either. People think this of Africa too. "Must have been basically Wakanda before the wyt pepo showed up". History is vulgar, violent, and has a lot of groups of people that no longer exist because many peoples, especially non whites, quite literally punked them out of existence.

Also, just learned this recently, but early European settlers were largely impressed by the natives. There are multiple letters and documents from Columbus's expedition and the expeditions that followed describing the natives as extremely intelligent and physically attractive. They were described as being equal to Spanish nobility. Queen Isabella herself was fond of the natives and made it illegal to enslave them. The only "flaw" they all agreed the natives had was that they "had no knowledge of God", and they were all eager to change that. Not because they were eeeeeevil cultural imperialists, but because they genuinely believed that not being Christian dammed you to hell. To them, they were doing a good thing for a native people they held in esteem.

Obviously, this wasn't universal, and it didn't last forever, but the idea that modern style racism was the sole, or even a major, motivating factor in European settlement and colonization is just plain false.

200 days have passed since Hamas terrorists infiltrated Israel on October 7th and slaughtered and kidnapped thousands of innocent people. 133 hostages are still being held captive in Gaza. Babies, women, men, and elderly. Sons, daughters, sisters, brothers, parents, grandparents, friends. We will NOT rest until every single one of them is back home.

Manabu speaking facts.

Seriously, did Yudias and Yuhi just expect that everything is ready for them? Like every other person would check what kind of provisions they have with them for a long journey. But those two didn't. So yeah, basically their own fault that they ended up with nothing but curry bread.

For once, Manabu says something and no one berates him!

well someone needs to be the brains/voice of reason

#1007.? - Appearing to be the “Winged King” referred to in an old expedition journal, Koraidon are believed to be the ancient ancestors of the modern Cyclizar. Not much is know about these powerful and ferocious Pokemon, but it can be theorized how they may have evolved over time into the contemporary relative that lives alongside humans today. Koraidon possess immense strength and impressive plumage, features that would have aided them in the more dangerous and wild world of their ancient era. As seen in Protosaur, it is likely that over time, Koraidon lost their bold coloration and excessive feathering, becoming smaller and more docile as they entered into a partnership with humans. Cyclizar as we know them have a mild temperament and enjoy the mutualistic relationship they share with people. Perhaps this is an example of self-domestication? More research is necessary to draw concrete conclusions about this possible evolutionary tree…

Named: Koraidon - - Ayernole - - Cyclizar

#1008.? - Will added at a later date.
