“If we only reached Paris, it would be enough,” Christine replied with a soft smile. She’d never wanted fame, never wanted the world to know her name. Just a few people would be enough.

It was clear she lacked his desire to be truly heard, but that would be fine. Once Paris heard her, heard them, the world would follow. The world would adore her! The world would adore them, though he didn’t know if he would ever see the light of it. Oh, but he never needed to be seen. “We will. Together, Christine, we will.”

to all the books i’ve read in 2019: The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux

I want to have a wife like everybody else and to take her out on Sundays. I have invented a mask that makes me look like anybody. People will not even turn round in the streets. You will be the happiest of women. And we will sing, all by ourselves, till we swoon away with delight. You are crying! You are afraid of me! And yet I am not really wicked. Love me and you shall see! All I wanted was to be loved for myself. If you loved me I should be as gentle as a lamb; and you could do anything with me that you pleased.

“I will,” Christine nodded. He’d taught her so much, helped her find her voice when she’d lost it. She would do almost anything to repay him. “It is too beautiful not to be heard.”

"Then together," he said, something in his voice turning light, "we will spread it. You are my muse, and now you will be my voice. Together we will share my music with the world, and we will share you with the world!"
