“Yeah, I mean… it’s not that different from ours,” he winked at her and then listened to her story about her father. So she too had no mother in her life anymore. “Any siblings?” he asked and looked around as the music changed to something more upbeat. When she asked him about his family, he took a deep breath. “Well, my mother died a while ago when I was a kid.” he said and shrugged. “I have an older brother and a father. They’re back in Japan and don’t exactly approve of me being here but I guess that’s the reason why I’m even here anyway,” he said and chuckled. “My brother and I don’t really get along well and my father mostly cares about his business, I decided that I need some distance.”

Hana shakes her head at his inquiry. "Nope, just my dad and me." She smiles faintly. She listens to his story then, and the smile drops into a small frown. "I'm sorry to hear you don't get along with them very well... But it sounds like coming here was a good thing for you. Distance and freedom from your family is kinda nice sometimes, right?" She laughs a bit, tipping her head to the side as she watches him.

As he compliments her again, Hana brushes her hair behind her ear and chuckles sheepishly. “I dunno, I’ve kinda been keeping to myself. Not much of a party girl, I guess.” She replies, before listening as he begins to talk about where he was from.

So he was Japanese, she got that right. She nods in agreement with his words. “Yeah. I haven’t seen much of Japan, but that sounds about right. People are a lot more laid back here.” She smiles, shrugging her shoulders. “I went with my dad when I was a kid, I can’t remember what place though… I’d love to go back again one day. I remember it was beautiful.”

"Well, our food is pretty great." She agrees with a wink, before laughing a bit. As he mentions her family, she grows a little quiet. She did miss her father. Rubbing the back of her neck, she begins to explain.

"It's... Only really my dad and me. He's supportive though. He's just as much of a nerd as I am, so he gets it. Hopefully I can go back and visit him soon... I still need to beat his high scores." She chuckles, looking up at him once more. "What about your family?"

If he was quite honest, he wasn’t actually in a party mood today. Ever since he came to Seoul a few weeks ago, to study here for a semester he had been focusing on his studies more than anything. Studying law was no joke, that much was for sure. And he had little time to spend on amusements like this. But finally he had found a weekend where he had time. He had no upcoming exams, no essays to write, no projects to work on, nothing. Absolutely nothing. So he was free to do whatever he wanted today and honestly he had been quite bored. He realized that he didn’t really have alot of friends here. Sure, here and there he had met some people but they rarely exchanged numbers and he didn’t feel confident enough in their relationship to ask them to hang out. They just shared some courses, that’s all. So he decided to go to this party that the computer engineering department was throwing. He didn’t know why they were throwing it and there probably wasn’t even a reason to begin with other than wanting to have some fun. Lots of people from other departments were also there, most of the people there were guys though. Not that he minded, he had known that coming into this. There weren’t alot of girls in this department and most of the people attending were from here. With a cup of beer in his hand he stood by the table where the drinks were, letting his gaze scan the crowd. Music was playing, some people were dancing, some were talking and there were even one or two or maybe more who were flirting a bit isolated from the rest of the crowd. It was quite interesting to watch. Genji would’ve mingled but for some reason he didn’t really feel like it. Maybe because he wasn’t 100% confident in his Korean, maybe because of some other reason. However a girl that was coming up to the table now caught his attention. He watched her for a short while. She wasn’t exactly tall, rather short actually. She had brown hair and big, brown eyes. She had a very young face, could’ve passed as a middle schooler if she wanted to. He decided to take a leap of faith and put on a charming smile as he approached her. „I didn’t know the computer engineering department lets in pretty girls like you,“ he said jokingly. „One would expect there only to be some hughe nerds.“ He shrugged and took a sip from his drink. „Then again, who would guess that law school lets a douche like me in?“ He chuckled and winked at her. „I’m Shimada Genji,“ he offered her his hand.  

The computer engineering department could get rather boring at times, even though you were surrounded by those who shared your passions. Perhaps that was the reason why they began planning this party, to have a little fun and reward themselves for all their hard work, and to show that their department wasn’t just a bunch of boring nerds. Hana Song wasn’t much of a party animal though, believing that kind of life to be overrated and much preferring to just sit and tinker away or play video games in her free time. However, her childhood best friend had convinced her to come along to the party, and now here she was.

She had been to a couple smaller-scale parties, but this one was the largest by far. People from lots of different departments were attending, a lot of people she hadn’t met. It made her slightly nervous, but perhaps this would be a good opportunity to make some new friends. If anyone wanted to be friends with a girl who studied computer engineering, that is. She knew she was a rare breed, and honestly she hadn’t been expecting anyone to notice her. But upon arriving and making her way through the crowd towards what she hoped would be a less crowded area, she was surprised to hear a voice loud and clear to the side of her.

She almost thought the person had been addressing someone behind her, but when she turned to look, her gaze met that of a taller boy - who was looking at her, not past her. Momentarily, Hana freezes. Oh god, this good-looking and probably popular guy was trying to talk to her? AND he called her pretty? What should she say? Usually she wasn’t this nervous, not among her fellow nerds at least. She puts on a smile though, and attempts to crack a joke. “How do you know I’m not a huge nerd?” Wait, would that put him off? Oh god. Laughing sheepishly, she lifts her hand to shake his. “Hana...--Song! Hana Song.”

The gamer girl chuckles softly. “Oh, you mean my high scores~? Sorry Genji, you’ve got a lot of catching up to do!” She winks playfully, crossing her arms over her chest.
