I feel like an unexpected side effect of the shift from episodic to serialized TV storytelling is that a good show can’t have bad episodes anymore. Because both the individual episodes and the broader narrative arc have to be good - and one bad episode will threaten the quality of the whole narrative arc and by extension the show. Whereas with more episodic storytelling you can have a bad episode and just go “well that was terrible. anyways!” And tune in next week for a better one. And I do miss that
I also feel like it means sometimes writers take fewer risks because exceptionally bad episodes and exceptionally good episodes both tend to be the result of creative risk. And so if you can’t risk having an exceptionally bad episode you can’t risk having an exceptionally good one either, and you end up with something milquetoast in the middle

i really could write an essay on how shit is that we’ve completely abandoned the monster-of-the-week episode format even when rebooting shows that relied on it to replace them with grimdark edgy plotlines where nothing feels good or accomplished at the end of the day
I think we should talk more about how Logan has definitely castrated Frank
Obsessed with everyone leaving actual meta on my shitpost (via @tomwambsgirl @oreganosbaby @myplasticadversary):

any time i successfully park i really feel like i should get an award like everybody should come out and clap for me. actually idont think that should happen that implies they would be watching if i fuck it up real bad too
red dead ‘stimboard’ posts almost always include multiple gifs of people handling guns and that’s kind of hilarious to me. loading my gun in front of you but not for any violent reasons. it’s just how I stim
