To a homophobe, even the most chaste kiss on the cheek between gay people is exactly as disgusting and degenerate as a hardcore BDSM orgy hosted in the town square, so you may as well ally with the BDSM orgy enthusiasts to throw bricks at the cops who are going to try and arrest all of you together anyway.

I once held hands with my husband at an event where my wife was also present, and a concerned parent lectured me about how she didn't want us to "influence" her son. Our icky gay polyam hand holding was such a threat to this woman that she made a point to corner me away from my partners and get me on my own to lecture me about being "indecent." If she had been inclined toward violence, I would have been fucked.

Hand holding. That's all it fucking took.

So catch me at Pride in a leather harness and holding a bat, because if hand holding is all it takes, we owe it to each other to stand together.

We're here. We're queer. Get fucking used to it.

The sheer number of LGBT people who have called me a "degenerate" and a "pedophile" and an "abuse apologist" and a "homophobe" and a "woman-beater" over this post, in the less than 24 hours since I have posted it, is proof that it needs to be said.

Call me a degenerate if you want. I don't care. It has always been the degenerates protecting each other when the cops raid our bars and inspect our clothing and haul us away for being cross-dressing, family-destroying, society-polluting, tranny dyke faggot freaks.

I know who I'd rather have on my side, and it's not the self-loathing pieces of shit who would rather destroy their own people than dismantle systems of oppression.

You will never be wholesome and pure enough for the bigots, no matter how much you distance yourself from the kinksters. Once they've killed all us degenerates, they're coming for you next. And we won't be here to fight for you anymore.

Reblog if you’re over 20 and still read/write fan fiction.

I’m curious!

How many times will I reblog this?

Yet again.

50 and very happily reading and scribbling.

Its so wild to me that so many young people nowadays think fanfic is something that only kids and teens do.

Back when I first got into online fanfic communities as a young teen, the majority of the fanfic communities were as they are now - adults. Minors were the minority (no pun intended). Minors who admitted to being minors were even more of a minority, because we knew damn well that if we wanted our smut - or wanted others to read our smut - then we had to make the adults think that we were One Of Them.

And having those cross-generational friendships was fantastic! I didn’t have much opportunity in my real life to have social interaction with adults who weren’t either family or friends of family, and being able to interact online with adults as ‘peers’ was really good for me. It gave me a much more varied view of things, and also gave me a fantastic community of people with more life experience than me whom I could turn to for advice.

And I know that, just like me, all those people are still reading and writing fic 25+ years later. And those who have sadly passed on were reading and writing fic right up until their deaths.

It’s not unusual to be reading/writing fanfic in your twenties - or in your thirties, forties, fifties, sixties, seventies, eighties, etc.

You’re never too old for fandom, no matter what anyone else says.

Yes, I do, and also:

PEOPLE TRYING TO STOP YOUTH FROM INTERACTING WITH ADULTS ARE TRYING TO CUT YOU OFF FROM THE SUPPORT OF YOUR COMMUNITY AND THE POWER OF KNOWLEDGE.

This is exactly, listen to me, exactly like the people trying to stop our youngest voters from voting are trying to cut you off from your civic power.

The more afraid they can make you, the more they can cut you off from available resources, the more they can reduce your knowledge, the more power over you they gain. Don't fall for it.

Beautiful from Ordinary Days

You know how much more remarkable I always find the people walking about in front of paintings than the paintings themselves. It’s no different here, except for the Cézanne room. Here, all of reality is on his side: in this dense quilted blue of his, in his red and his shadowless green and the reddish black of his wine bottles. And the humbleness of his objects: the apples are all cooking apples and the wine bottles belong in the roundly bulging pockets of an old coat.

-Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters on Cézanne, North Point Press edition, translated by Joel Agee.

This isn't Instagram, my darlings. It's not considered creepy (except by people imported from Instagram and frankly they need to learn the culture HERE before trying to boss anyone around) or weird or particularly distressing. Many of us don't even look at our notifications to realize that you've done it.

And frankly, I put that on my blog to bring me some joy. If it brings you joy too, put it on your blog along with the next fifty posts in the same theme. (If you're reblogging my fics, thank you, I love you 3000.)

Let's actually explain the reason, here, so people get it. This is the essential difference between algorithm-driven sites and non-algorithm-driven sites.

If some "who's getting liked the most" algorithm is determining people's dashboards, then there is an opportunity to game the system to get specific content in front of people's eyeballs. This is spam. Whatever the actual content, it's spam. And even evil sites will go "yes I'm evil, but at least I'm not _tacky_" and try to filter out the spam. In an algorithm-driven site, liking/bookmarking/whatever hundreds of a single person's posts all at once will immediately trip the spam-filter, because that's what a spam-bot would do. So the filters kick in, tank rating of the person being liked, and probably ban or at least shadow-ban the person doing the liking, all because you just matched the profile for a spam-bot and its target content.

Tumblr, however, is not algorithm-driven, except for little weird bits around the edges that no one ever actually uses and most of us actively work to kill using New Xkit and ad blockers. So the spam filters here look very different! They're probably looking for a new account that links out to other sites with suspicious regularity, and in a suspiciously similar time-frame with a bunch of other accounts going to the same place. (I'm pretty sure they've whitelisted AO3, by now. _Pretty_ sure.) Gaming the system here now involves aging an account and reblogging random content until that account looks legit, and then letting loose the spam links.

So on Tumblr, the important thing to do is be fast on the ban-hammer and report-spam button with any account that doesn't look like a real person, because otherwise you're going to be an innocent accessory to a spam-bot. You can go absolutely wild with serial-liking and bookmarking, though, because that behavior is a) not part of the spam filter parameters and b) an essential part of this site's culture.

Okay, I feel like we're getting real insight into the psychology of cats with this thing. Urge to boop repeatedly is very strong.

It's gonna be such a funny mess when Donald Trump dies of a stroke on April 1st, 2024.

  • Naturally everybody will think it's fake because of the date only to lose their minds (both positively and negatively based on their opinion of trump) when realizing it's real
  • There will be massive celebrations in the streets and on social media and lots of predictable "don't speak ill of the dead" discourse about those celebrations
  • Weird evangelicals will pull some weird number trick talking about how Jesus was conceived on April 1st and that makes Trump a sort of messiah and people will make fun of that
  • The Republicans (after they're done with the faux-sadness and faux-outrage) will stomp over each other to be his successor but none of them will succeed. They'll tear each other apart and have no single nominee for the November elections.
  • There will be discourse about if Biden and the living former presidents should go to his funeral (they won't, he was a traitor insurrectionist)
  • The Ukraine-Russia War immediately goes in favor of Ukraine as morale in the Kremlin is reduced. China similarly backs off from its threats on Taiwan.
  • Ten thousand new memes are made, some sticking around for years to come.
  • Not a month later a bunch of unofficial biographies of Trump hit the bookshelves, many with new details about just how awful he was.

As I sat there at my ease, cross-legged on the deck; after the bitter exertion at the windlass; under a blue tranquil sky; the ship under indolent sail, and gliding so serenely along; as I bathed my hands among those soft, gentle globules of infiltrated tissues, woven almost within the hour; as they richly broke to my fingers, and discharged all their opulence, like fully ripe grapes their wine; as I snuffed up that uncontaminated aroma,—literally and truly, like the smell of spring violets; I declare to you, that for the time I lived as in a musky meadow; I forgot all about our horrible oath; in that inexpressible sperm, I washed my hands and my heart of it; I almost began to credit the old Paracelsan superstition that sperm is of rare virtue in allaying the heat of anger; while bathing in that bath, I felt divinely free from all ill-will, or petulance, or malice, of any sort whatsoever.

Squeeze! squeeze! squeeze! all the morning long; I squeezed that sperm till I myself almost melted into it; I squeezed that sperm till a strange sort of insanity came over me; and I found myself unwittingly squeezing my co-laborers’ hands in it, mistaking their hands for the gentle globules. Such an abounding, affectionate, friendly, loving feeling did this avocation beget; that at last I was continually squeezing their hands, and looking up into their eyes sentimentally; as much as to say,—Oh! my dear fellow beings, why should we longer cherish any social acerbities, or know the slightest ill-humor or envy! Come; let us squeeze hands all round; nay, let us all squeeze ourselves into each other; let us squeeze ourselves universally into the very milk and sperm of kindness.

Would that I could keep squeezing that sperm for ever! For now, since by many prolonged, repeated experiences, I have perceived that in all cases man must eventually lower, or at least shift, his conceit of attainable felicity; not placing it anywhere in the intellect or the fancy; but in the wife, the heart, the bed, the table, the saddle, the fireside, the country; now that I have perceived all this, I am ready to squeeze case eternally. In thoughts of the visions of the night, I saw long rows of angels in paradise, each with his hands in a jar of spermaceti.

And this is why my Am Lit I prof could make entire _years_ of students break into giggles by muttering "squeeze, squeeze, squeeze..." He didn't even have to waggle his eyebrows, though he generally did, for obvious reasons.

And it's worth noting that, in the year of our connectivity 2017, I had to carry around converter dongles for five of these fuckers, just to make sure my laptop would talk to whatever projector I encountered on the campus of an R-fucking-1 university.

All y'all complaining about how Apple won't let go of Thunderbolt and consolidate on USB-C, a) keep complaining and b) remember how much worse it can get again if you stop complaining.

2023 Bucket

This is a bucket. Anything you don't want to take with you into 2024, feel free to drop it in the bucket. I will be burning the contents (with Hellfire) at exactly 11:59pm on New Year's Eve.

You don't have to type anything, at all. Just reblog the bucket and your intentions will be known by the universe. Or the bucket. Or whatever you like.

Today I saw a pic of a baby cowbird next 2 its nest "parent" and it was so much bigger!!!!! Which is the sort of thing that gets normal people upset about the injustice of nest parasitism but makes *me* worry if baby cowbirds get bird dysmorphia

This (from Cornell Labs via Merlin) is the pic I was looking at. It's just a little baby but it's so much bigger than its "parent"!!!! Do baby cowbirds feel isolated? Do they understand they're a different bird, or are they just a really bad sparrow?

hey, good news! ecologists have been studying this very thing! it seems young cowbirds have some kind of innate sense that leads them to sneak out of their foster nest at night to hang out in grasslands where they—more often than not—meet other cowbirds and learn more about what they really are.

Thanks I am going to cry so hard I throw up ;-;
