Love how tumblr has its own folk stories. Yeah the God of Arepo we’ve all heard the story and we all still cry about it. Yeah that one about the woman locked up for centuries finally getting free. That one about the witch who would marry anyone who could get her house key from her cat and it’s revealed she IS the cat after the narrator befriends the cat.

Might I add:

The defeat of the wizard who made people choose how they’d be to be executed

The woman who raised the changeling alongside her biological child

The human who died of radiation poisoning after repairing the spaceship

The adventures of a space roomba

Cinderella finding Araura (and falling in love)

I don’t know a snappy description but the my nemesis cynthia story certainly lives in my head

It's crying over QiJiu hours again and tonight I'm thinking about the parallels between Shen Jiu saying, no, you should go without me, be a cultivator, through a door in the Qiu manor, and Shen Qingqiu saying, leave me here, Sect Leader, forget about me, from a prison cell under Huan Hua Palace. The parallel between begging on street corner with the figurative "letter written in blood" and a the literal version written through a haze of pain. Shen Jiu saying, I can't go with you, they've broken my legs, and the "gift" Luo Binghe puts in that gilded box.

You're too impulsive, Qi-ge, says Shen Jiu, 12 years old and he already knows there's only one person in the world worth being loyal to. We wouldn't be here if you weren't so impulsive.

Draw my sword, says Yue Qingyuan, on his knees on a dirty prison floor, draw Xuan Su and end my life.

The First Flight

[I was just a tiny bit fixated over how would a flight on a sword feels like]

Something I find funny about Svsss in context with MXTXs other works, is Shang Qinghua. Like there's this idea that, "he's just a lil guy", or placing him kinda adjacent to Nie Hauisang and Meng Yao a bit. Which is fine in comparison to the people he's surrounded by. Two op demon lords and his 11 other martial siblings, two of which are men who can go toe to toe with those op demon lords. Here's the thing tho. As far as I understood it, the peak lords only become peak lords after attaining immortality, making all 12 of them somewhat equivalent to Baoshan Sanren.

So what I'm saying is I'd like to see Sqh in MDZS playing "just a little guy" and then wiping the floor with one of the big sect leaders

Kabru trying his usual approach to undermining people against Laios is so funny. It’s like he’s a grandmaster at chess, poker, and everything else that requires mind-games coming up to a guy, fully expecting to beat him at any game under any circumstances, only to realize he didn’t prepare for the one thing he’d actually be faced with, which is a hotdog eating contest against a guy whose friends call him “the vacuum cleaner”.

What I find really really compelling about Laios' special interest is this:

As a person who's special interest is dogs, I'll tell you right now that I fucking love them. I live in a city full of strays, and I actively go out of my way to pet, play with, and interact with them. It brings me a lot of joy and comfort to be able to be surrounded by puppies.

I will also be the first to tell you that, like it or not, dogs are animals - and animals, ultimately, can be unpredictable. They can be scared, they can be territorial, and they can be impulsive. And while I genuinely believe that there's no such thing as a bad dog or an angry dog - only a scared one - I also don't believe it makes a functional difference once a dog has bitten you what intentions it may have had.

Dogs are dangerous. I've seen people get bitten, I've been bitten, I've had close calls, some of which were my own fault and others which were not.

And Laios reflects this so beautifully, especially in the Kelpie arc. He's not blinded by his love for these creatures, he's not overtaken by baseless empathy - he understands, understands better than anyone, that these are at the end of the day monsters, and they are dangerous, and when push comes to shove sometimes you've just got to kill them. In fact it's his love for them that lands him this knowledge and understanding in the first place - just as I know that there's no room for fear and weakness when it comes to interacting with dogs, he knows there's no room for hesitation and empathy when it comes to interacting with montsers.

It's so fucking realistic of someone who genuinely researches and cares about these creatures, rather than superficially "liking animals" and then trying to assign human qualities to inherently inhuman creatures.

God.

Laios is fantastic fucking representation.
