April Fic Round Up

big posting month!! I'm really trying to find as much writing time to get all my ideas out as possible and I think it's actually starting to work out, which hopefully means a lot of big posting months in the future!!

in the latest update of Fiction Is For Fools, Hector and Heard finally talk about the time Heard thought Hector was dead (sfw, 30k total, 28/34)

I just keep thinking about the potential s3 GeorgeBertha fight and it's stressing me out so I wrote a fix it (if you can write a fix-it for something that hasn't happened yet) with a whole lot of Bertha introspection in a fraying, a mending (6k, sfw)

and also just some fun horny nonsense of Bertha having erotic dreams about her husband of twenty years and George being, perhaps predictably, very into the idea with to sleep, perchance to (4k, nsfw)

the artful dodger:

I did the classic thing where you watch a show and are like 'but what about this minor character', and so of course Fanny is my favourite character in that show and I just had to write about her, being an adoring little sister, helping to save Jack, and generally making a friend of everyone in never did run smooth (11k, sfw)

fantasy high:

I am just so fond of Gilear and I'm so thrilled we got to see him in an actual episode and I'm beyond thrilled that he's back to his old level of luck, and so a little post-luck redistribution fic with I Never Did Believe In Miracles (but I have a feeling it's time to try) (Gilear/Hallariel, 1.5k, sfw)

I just wrote 8 pages when I haven't written in months and was beginning to think I'd never be able to again. Idk what it is, but I am sharing and manifesting this energy for every writer who sees this. May you write 8 quality pages effortlessly and find joy writing once more

anyway the actual point of fandom is to inspire each other. reading each other's fics and admiring each other's art and saying wow i love this and i feel something and i want to invoke this in other people, i want to write a sentence that feels like a meteor shower, i want to paint a kiss with such tenderness it makes you ache, i want to create something that someone else somewhere will see it and think oh, i need to do that too, right now. i am embracing being a corny cunt on main to say inspiring each other is one of the things humanity is best at and one of the things fandom is built for and i think that's beautiful

so much coverage on met gala but they’ll try hard to hide that there is a huge crowd of protestors outside the met rn in support of palestine that have been marching across the city all day. meanwhile israel is bombing and enacting their invasion on rafah as we speak

I go to UCLA and it’s insane how much the pro-Palestinian protestors had to endure. Here’s a rundown.

On early Tuesday morning, the pro-Israeli protestors (most middle aged people, not even UCLA students):

  • threw a biohazardous backpack full of dying mice into the encampment
  • hid bananas in the encampment when someone is deathly allergic to them
  • harassed pro-Palestinian protestors, telling them they hoped they get raped, have no life, etc.
  • Shot several FIREWORKS into the encampment
  • Used pepper spray/bear mace on protestors
  • Ripped apart the barricades
  • Beat up protestors
  • The police stood around for about 3 hours (1-4 AM) because UCLA didn’t give the OK to stop them (edit: found out that UCLA prohibited security from this since the FRIDAY prior)

On Tuesday night to Wednesday morning, when clearing out the encampment, the police:

  • Used multiple flashbangs, I’ve heard about 20
  • Shot 5 people in the head with rubber-covered metal bullets
  • Brutally beat peaceful people up with nightsticks
  • Used tear gas
  • They even brought boxes of PIZZA 🙄 because the protestors and supporters were relentless in staying on campus and tiring the police out (👏)

Just want to reiterate, I have seen absolutely no evidence of any pro-Palestinian protestors at UCLA being hostile or violent in any way, while the news and UCLA itself has framed the attacks on students as “clashes” between both sides. It’s propaganda.

Meanwhile, a video of a Zionist Jewish student who acted like they blocked access to the building conveniently didn’t follow the several people walking in the background accessing the open side and back entrances to Royce Hall. Also lots of parts of campus are closed off for different reasons often and you have to go around. It’s not a problem for an able-bodied person like him. Zionists are literally making stuff up to play the victim when it’s not even happening.

Rapper Macklemore is releasing a track called “Hind’s Hall”, speaking out on the genocide of Palestinians, and the United States complacency in this ongoing violence. Macklemore has stated that once the track drops on streaming, all proceeds from streams will be going directly to UNRWA— the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East.

The new tracks namesake Hind’s Hall echoes the honours that Columbia University encampment protestors bestowed the Morningside Heights campus’ Hamilton Hall— in memory of Hind Rajab, the 6 year old Palestinian girl in Gaza who was shot by Israeli soldiers after being trapped inside a vehicle, with her dead family. She had begged to be rescued as tanks closed in on her.

Macklemore using his platform to vehemently speak out against genocide, the Israeli occupation and United States-led violence is what every single artist should be doing right now. The power of art should not be underestimated. Macklemore started out in the Hip-Hop scene within communist circles, namely working alongside Blue Scholars, and has never neglected his Leftism through out his career: the artist has spoken on issues regarding mental health, addiction, racial profiling and police violence, Capitalism, women’s rights, LGBTQ+ rights and toxicity of American culture.
