A former staff engineer, who recently left Tumblr and asked to remain anonymous for professional reasons, tells Vox that the NSFW ban was “in the works for about six months as an official project,” adding that it was given additional resources and named “Project X” in September, shortly before it was announced to the rest of the company at an all-hands meeting. “[The NSFW ban] was going to happen anyway,” the former engineer told me. “Verizon pushed it out the door after the child pornography thing and made the deadline sooner,” but the real problem was always that Verizon couldn’t sell ads next to porn.
Porn on Tumblr is something Verizon needs to wipe out if it’s going to make any money off what it thinks is actually valuable about the platform — enormous fandom and social justice communities that, just before the Verizon acquisition, Khalaf was insisting the staff figure out how to better monetize.
On that note-
Two former Tumblr employees said they were alarmed when Khalaf chose Black Lives Matter as an example of a community that the company should focus on converting into Yahoo media consumers. One told The Verge, “Simon explicitly said that Black Lives Matter was an opportunity to [make] a ton of money.”

As mentioned before, I’ve been going through a rough time financially lately. A friend mentioned that I should share my Square Cash username ($TylerPetito) on here in case some generous soul(s) would like to donate. Any money would be going to some medical bills I’ve accrued in the last couple months, plus helping out with rent and other bills so I can keep a roof over my head. Not trying to guilt anyone, it’s just kind of my last resort so any bit would help. Even $0.50.
Also any ideas to earn some extra cash are still appreciated too! I’m currently doing walks with Wag but they’re few and far between. I’ve toyed with the idea of cooking/selling baked goods to friends and family I just haven’t had any takers yet. If you guys have any other ideas I’m absolutely all ears. ☺️

The opposition to this tumblr stuff is just kind of gross. Like. You’re an adult. Pay for an adult website that has the content you want. Or use one of the maaaaaaaany free ones. Stop using a website that almost exclusively caters to 12-17 year olds. It’s creepy that dudes out here think that their preferred content being on tumblr is the most important. Forget about the literal children and teens who may see it, their free porn that was probably stolen from someone’s onlyfans or taken from a private text convo is the most important thing!
