Judge Wolf is making headlines again for all the right reasons (x)

Isn’t this the same woman who refused to prosecute someone because the jail guards had refused to give her a full set of clothes?

Justice Wolf.

If only we could get her on the Supreme Court

We need more people like her in the Supreme Court, yes, but local courts have far more power than most people realize. Investigate your local candidates; advocate for progressive voices in your hometown.

would much like  to point out that the people publishing these articles are trying to needle millennials into treating gen z with the same disgusting vitriol we were treated with.

don’t buy it.

our younger brothers and sisters might eat a tide pod and get us blamed for it, but we have more in common with them than we ever had with boomers or gen x.

they are terrified of the things we can do together. remember that.

“Aw man! This pie doesn’t taste at all like what grandma use to make! I’m must be a terrible baker:(“

Maybe! Or maybe one of many things might be different from the recipe you’ve been trying to follow

Baking is largely both a science, and bullshit. Anything from the altitude you’re at, or the mosture in the air, or the way you’re measuring ingredients (ie weight vs volume) can effect how your final result of what you’re making will come out. A few examples just in my grandmother’s Apple Pie recipe are

  • Her recipe calls for Crisco in the crust, but Crisco changed their formula in 2007, effecting the taste and texture of the crusts made, so adjustments have to be made to account for that
  • The Apple tree in her backyard is gone, and no apples sold commonly in stores are similar to whatever random variety she had, and there are over 7,500 known varieties of apples
  • Not all flour that you buy from the store is the same, and I’m not just even talking about like. Cake flour vs wheat flour. Even in the US the kind of regular baking flour differs depending on where you live, and where it’s sourced from

So will I ever make that Apple pie I remember fondly from my childhood? Probably not! Just gotta figure out my own thing that works.

I dunno why I made this post at 6am. Just shit to keep in mind next time you’re struggling with an older recipe I guess!

This post made me think about the cake I just made the other day.  It’s my mom’s no-bake cheesecake recipe.  It is the one cake everyone who tastes it loves.  No, really.  My sister-in-law’s nephews hate sweets, but took leftovers home one Thanksgiving.  It’s that kind of cake.  This was the cake I requested for my birthday my entire life.  It tastes like mom hugs to me; especially since she died.

Every time I make it, it tastes ‘not right’.  It doesn’t taste like mom’s to me.  Something’s off.  Too sweet.  Not creamy enough.  The chocolate is too milky.  I get very close, but it’s never exactly like mom’s.

But whenever other people, who have eaten mom’s cake in past, have my version, they tell me it’s exactly like mom’s.  They aren’t lying.  They love this cake.  I have no reason to doubt when they tell me this.  The cake is always demolished when it comes out.

I realized that it tasted differently to me because I was the one who made it, and they had someone make it for them.  My cakes will never taste like mom’s because mom isn’t here to make it for me.

There really is something to be said for “making something with love”. The taste does change depending on how you feel about it while you make it.

The biggest break-up in Star Wars was between R2-D2 and Anakin. Like full on we are never, ever, ever getting back together level break-up.

Look at this beautiful family portrait. Look how Artoo has taken all of Anakin’s kids with him in the divorce. I love this.

artoo is the friend who sees his best friend botch the breakup so badly that he actually sides with the ex in the breakup and becomes ‘uncle artoo’ to the children anakin is legally no longer allowed to contact

I cannot believe that R2-D2 is the only being in this picture that wasnt directly created by Anakin Skywalker

Japan’s complete lack of understanding of declining birth rates in relation to its work culture reminds me a lot of how America has an assumption that millennials are killing industries when the truth is they are more frugal because of a lack of funds.

Both come from a conservative mindset that neglects the impact that a toxic work culture can have on society.

A 80+ hour work week in order to maintain financial stability isn’t exactly a solid ground to date people and eventually build a family from a healthy relationship.

A workforce comprised of 20 somethings that make between 20-40k a year in entry positions isn’t a good ground to build a reliable consumer base when a huge chunk of that is going to rent, utilities, car payments, and student loans.

This is a fascinating connection, you should write a paper on this

I am convinced that, in general, people want to have families. Many, if not most, would be happy to raise children. But in order to have children and raise them, especially to do so well, people need happy, stable relationships, financial security and time to devote to - you know - actually raising the child. You need both money and time to do that. If people are not given the time and means to be able to create social connections and strong relationships, to devote to parenthood and family, then they are not going to do it. How can they?

I understand most of these!

I find it amazing that like a huge chunk of today’s youth makes and laughs at vague memes of events like a millennia ago which future historians will spend hours puzzling over
