Unfortunate reminder that domestic violence in England goes up by 26% when England plays and 38% when they lose.

For anyone who needs it tonight, the national helpline for domestic violence is 0808 2000 247. Please consider sharing this even if you’re not an England fan.

UK FOLLOWERS, I NEED YOU!

The UK government have very recently put out an online survey to gather responses about the Gender Recognition Act of 2004. There is going to be a possible reform of the Gender Recognition Act based on this public consultation.

Here are some things you may or may not know about the current UK law on gaining Gender Recognition Certificates, based on the GRA:

1. The current process does not comply with United Nations Humans Right Commission guidance 2. The current process is overly complicated and bureaucratic 3. The current process is expensive - application requires an income-based fee, alongside all of the travel and admin costs involved 4. The current process requires a wait of at least two years before you can even apply 5. The current process requires you to provide medical reports in order to be considered a legitimate application, which pathologises trans identities 6. The current process depends on a panel of (cis) strangers deciding a trans person’s identity for them 7. The current process doesn’t offer legal recognition to trans people under 18 8. The current process has no legal recognition for non-binary people whatsoever 9. The current process requires married trans people to get permission from their spouse 10. The current process leaves people in a legal grey area

We desperately want to get rid of the long, mandated waiting period, as well as the current fees, and we desperately want recognition for under 18s and non-binary people. This process needs to be reformed so that it’s affordable, straightforward, and easy to understand.

You do not have to be transgender to fill out this form online - and no doubt will TERFs and religious groups use that to their advantage. Don’t let voices of hate dominate the conversation! So…

SURVEY INFORMATION:

To access the survey, click the link above and scroll down to the bottom of the page, until you see a link that says “Respond Online” under the header ‘Ways to respond’. Or, you can click here [LINK].

IMPORTANT - take your time. This survey is 28 pages long, and covers lots of different areas related to the Gender Recognition Act 2004. You don’t have to complete it all at once. You can go away and come back to it at another time - all you need is a valid email address where they will send you a verification code to save your current progress.

Take the time to read the information provided about the GRA, and the process for gaining a Gender Recognition Certificate. If you are not transgender yourself, consult your trans friends if you’re unsure about a certain question or response.

The deadline for this online survey is 11pm (GMT) on 19th of October 2018.

Mark it in your calendars. And please complete the survey and give your voice to the consultation in support of trans people in the UK.
