they're building "workforce housing" in my area

company towns 2.0

some of it is right next to the grocery store I work at. imagine moving there and your manager shows up at your door when you call out sick

oh my god will liberals in the notes justifying this shut the fuck up? they are building workplace housing in my area TO COMPENSATE FOR UNPAID WAGES. it's part of a larger trend in accepting poverty into business models rather than raising wages and improving working conditions, which is VERY concerning. these jobs--the ones catering to those in workplace housing--pay so little some of my coworkers are borderline homeless.

THIS HOUSING IS RIGHT NEXT TO PLACES OF EMPLOYMENT THAT UNDERPAY AND MISTREAT EMPLOYEES ON PURPOSE. THEY DON'T WANT ADVANCEMENT.

it's NOT affordable either, it's "affordable" compared to INSANELY OVERPRICED PLACES, but by dividing it developers can easily trick people into thinking they got a deal.

Hi, local long-time tumblr resident here. Please take a moment to spread this message if you can.

In South Carolina, my home state, bill H. 4624 is swiftly being approved and passed through legislation with virtually no media coverage or conversation happening around it.

It is a dangerous and aggressively transphobic bill that will outlaw treatment for any trans person under 18, would require school teachers, counselors, and medical practictioners to disclose a student's status as trans to parents (which can lead to abuse or worse) and will also make it illegal to use any public funds to cover transition-related medical services for anyone of ANY age.

For transgender adults on medicaid or the state health plan, this is absolutely terrifying.

For anyone in SC who believes trans people should be allowed to live dignified and peaceful lives, I urge you to read up on the bill and to send emails to the governor and (if they are on the medical affairs committee) your local senator.

Links below.

Sadly the bill has passed the Senate. the ACLU of SC are asking people to send messages to the Governor asking to veto the bill. A template is available via their website here. If you are an SC resident, please take a moment to use this template to send a message.

What I believe is happening in the case of coming across a public expression of sexuality, or a trans woman in a dress, or someone wearing a BDSM collar, or a woman in a short skirt is that these things will strike some people as inherently "sexual" in ways that other things (such as topless men and wedding rings) do not. And things that strike us as "sexual" may evoke sexual stigma in our minds. And this experience of sexual stigma - which can act indirectly and from a distance, as we've all seen with fears of "contagiousness" - can make us feel as if we are being "nonconsensually" implicated in a "sexual" activity, even though no boundaries have actually been breached, and the supposed act may not even be sexual for the other party. Such overreaches are worrisome, not only because they further marginalize those who are already unfairly "marked by sex" in our culture, but also because they can dilute or weaken legitimate claims of nonconsent in cases where actual sexual violence has been perpetrated.
