Fundamental to human life, for millennia we have sought out salt. A search for the familiar daily grain in the vast expanses of the salt mountain, pan, lake and vein. Equipped with a geologists toolkit I went out into the field, following well worn paths, maps, and google earth images. Born of the Purest Parents oscillates between the fragmented mineral specimen and the topographic survey. Through closely observed landscape features, scale and alienation are explored within both natural and man-made places. Hallo, I’m @dafnesalis, and I’m happy to be sharing some of my work over the next week here at #Tjejland. I’m from Italy, and currently based in London. My practice moves its steps as an enquiry on female body's perception. My work disputes female essentialism within images, moving from symbolism to anatomy to myth and familiar configurations. The images I will be sharing are part of different projects. Finding Ulysses. In 2016, I was asked to produce a series of work around the notion of visual noise, I thought of the powerful part noise plays in remembering experiences. Memories hold a specific resonance. My mind wandered to the many ferry crossings I’ve taken back and forth across the Irish sea - the clamour, commotion and discordance pushing through the sometimes still, sometimes raging waters. There was a time Ulysses claimed to be the largest car ferry in the world.  The vessel stands 12 decks high. And on a busy day, she will carry as many as 2000 passengers and crew.
