there's an entire pantheon of doll girls and sparklefurs and trannies with god complexes and demons and otherkin and nature spirits and bodhisattvas and dragons and faeries and godkin and ghosts with cotards and angel girls and void critters and animal gods and so many more and you can meet some of these and get coffee with them and if they like you theyll tell you their deeply held personal mythologies and feel sincerly validated from being heard and you can just be in awe of that, if you want

i cannot even BEGIN to explain why this is a bad idea

So basically what I'm hearing is theyre lowering the drinking age to "ehh whatever"

Three children in a trenchcoat holding up a stock photo of an old person to the camera and getting away with four liters of 100 proof vodka

No no no no no. That's Not why this is a Bad Idea guys.

When the cashier checks your ID, they're checking 1) Is the birthday right? and 2) Are you the person in the picture?

Now ask yourself: How would the self-checkout at Walmart do the second thing?

Well, they'd have to have a copy of the photo on your ID stored in the self-checkout's database, so that when you scan your ID, it could pull up that photo and verify that it's you.

Toss aside the inaccuracies. We're talking about every private retailer that sells age-restricted products having direct access to your ID photo. It's bad enough that they're already tracking you by your debit and credit card purchases, and that any time a cashier scans or swipes your ID it puts all your info (name, age, listed address, ID or DL number, height and weight) into their data crunchers. Now they want your photo too.

this has been discussed before but reducing female characters to the girlboss braincell holder in the name of combating misogyny in fandom is ironically also a form of misogyny

people love love loooove to go on and on and on about whiteguy #135336843’s internal torment and the nuances of his writing and then when it comes time to talk about women it’s all um actually she can do no wrong and holds the braincell and babysits the boys like a mother hashtag feminism. i hope you fucking blow up

May I add:

Too many I know, give more than asked and run themselves ragged.

I know you want to be good and kind to others and show your skills. But please don't. It just leads to more work because people think you can handle it, or uses you. If you can perform 100% of what is asked with 70% of your energy, do that and save the 30% for yourself.

"But only 2% of the population is intersex. It's not that common. Why should we reframe or perception of gender for intersex people?"

Completely ignoring the fact that empathy exists. You do realize that 2% of the population in the medical field is considered very common, yes?

2% of children and 0.5% of adults have a peanut allergy and that's so common that they have entire rules around in in public spaces.

0.24-1% of the population has Rheumatoid arthritis. That's an eighth to a half of the number of intersex people!

1-2% of people are estimated to have autism, and that's considered a common condition.

0.1%-2.6% of people will get melanoma in their life time, and that's considered common.

1.2% of people have epilepsy and that's considered common.

Completely ignoring statistics like 6% of women have PCOS (which is a condition that can fall under the intersex umbrella). 2% of the population in the medical field is considered a common condition, and ergo by medical terms intersex is in itself common.

I don't think you realize how big 2% is. That's 2 in 100 people. If you walk into 3 fully filled classrooms (when I was in school a full classroom was 40 students). Chances are you just saw 2 intersex kids and didn't even know it.

So yeah. I think intersex is common enough to include in our discussions around gender and how transphobic rules affects intersex people.

Good tags for conceptualizing how much 2% is

2% of the population is literally more people than any individual country aside from the 7 largest. 2% of the population is 162 million people. Russia doesn't have that many people, nor does japan or mexico or egypt or italy or colombia or tanzania. if france and Britain and canada combined their entire populations, they'd be fewer than the intersex population. 2% is insanely large when put into context, there are more intersex people than 2 of the 5 countries permanent members of the UN Security Council put together. on average, you would see 20 intersex people per day (the university of oxford estimates the average person sees 1000 people per day, at least in passing). if you had to fight each intersex person you saw tomorrow over your shitty opinion, you'd probably die. and if you wouldn't, I suggest you try to get out more.

Here's the full suit! It's in Japan ofc haha. And not a fursuit! This person is just costuming as a human-sized cat. Not anthro or related to the furry fandom. Kid me would have cried tears of joy if I saw this irl. Cat but big. Very Beatrice Potter.

Ugh, I keep seeing this post and it keeps rankling me every time.

It's an amazing fursuit.

Yes, it is a fursuit. Yes, "costuming as a human-sized cat" is fursuiting. Yes, the creator (Mikeneko Yamada) is a fursuit maker specializing in cat suits, but has also made a tanuki, a bear, a shiba inu, a frog, and several more that I've seen. Yes, the fursuit is both hyper-realistic and anthro (it's on two-legs, thus exhibiting human-like behavior and that's all anthropomorphic really means). No, fursuits don't have to be cartoony sparkledogs to be fursuits. Hyper-realistic fursuits (like this) and quadsuits exist. They are still fursuits. Yamada, the creator of this fursuit, blogs their exact process making fursuits with the EXACT same processes other fursuit makers use to make fursuits, down to the jawsets and head rigs and air fans absent from many non-furry mascot costume work. This is a fursuit.

And that's okay!

Idk why people feel the need to distance themselves from liking furry. It's such a wide genre. It's not all Disney's Robin Hood, Beatrix Potter's art is furry art too! People like to try and compartmentalize it into the tropes that make them cringe but for everyone out there participating in furry fandom some way you don't personally like, there's another person out there doing something like this you think is cute or fun or interesting. It's diverse, and people on the internet need to stop acting like they're allergic to furries every time they see a furry do something they actually like.

extremely funny that the narrative around the columbia protests is that these kids are privileged brats disrupting everyone else's education as though that wasn't the exact rhetoric used to discredit youth activism during the vietnam war. alexa play ohio crosby stills nash & young

also extremely funny when every single one of these articles is like. 'we interviewed rachel levi and abraham weiss, two proud JVP members, as they cooked a passover meal for the encampment and asked: so why do you hate jews?'
