“Am I so hard to love?” Is a line that haunts me. I am gutted each time I think of this sweet boy saying it. How could he think that? it’s as easy as breathing.

The thought of anyone feeling this way (real or fictional) is enough to bring me to tears. It hurts to think about it.

Yet, when I wonder to myself the very same question the answer is always: “Yes. You are.” And I can write a list miles long of all the reasons why.

I’ve gotten to the age where I’ve been struggling with negative self image for so long idk how to change something so deeply programmed. I’m not sure it’s even possible, but I hope.

I’m sure Matthew and all others who feel this way do too. So to you, I say: As easy as it is for you to love your best friend, your pet, or your favorite fictional character- it’s that easy for others to love you. So keep going. Keep trying. Keep hoping. And I will too.
