make bad art or you will always feel bad about your art. Make bad art until you find joy in the crooked lines and the off colours. Make bad art because art is about expression and artwork is never ugly because it was made by someone who has lived a life no one else will ever live. Make bad art and find love through ugly. Make bad art so you make art at all. Make bad art.

Canaan house/ tower theory
Okay I’m doing a Gideon audiobook listen, and just got to chapter 29 - when Harrow and Palamedes are discussing the possibility of a megatheorem.
Harrow dismisses the idea and focuses instead on how all the trails/ experiments requires a continuous source of thanergy that is hidden somewhere in Canaan house.
They call it her ‘secret door theory’ as she believes that they only have access to 30% of the tower, including the facility.
Makes me keep thinking about how Tamzyn recently said something like ‘we haven’t seen everything at Canaan house and we will return in Alecto.’
What also stood out to me is later when Harrow reveals to Gideon what is actually in the locked tomb, she says, ‘the water is salt and it’s deeps and it moves with a tide it shouldn’t have.’
I have no real theory (so that was a lie) but I need brighter minds to figure it out.
Is the locked tomb really on the First? Was Alecto the battery powering the house? Was it the souls of all of those that John didn’t resurrect that he killed on Earth powering it?
Is Canaan house actually the top half of the Tower in the river?
Someone else I can't remember pointed out this suggestive paragraph from GtN, chapter 9:
“Once she paused on a blasted terrace outside, gazing at the rusting, hulking pillars that stuck up in a ring around the tower. The sea on one side was broken up with flat concrete landings like stepping-stones, set wet and geometric in the water, mummified in seaweed: the sea had covered up more structures long, long ago, and they looked like square heads with long, sticky hair, peering up suspiciously through the waves. Being outside made her feel dizzy, so she headed back inside.”
With Canaan House I always feel like I'm hearing something described that I've always known, but because it now exists on a flooded Earth, I'm seeing only the top half of it, plus it's from the wrong angle, or through unfocused eyes, and at some point it's all going to fall into place what it actually is, and we'll all recognise it, and it's going to feel horribly, horribly wrong.
I actually used to wonder about Neuschwanstein Castle - that's always the sort of picture it conjures up for me. Or the fucking Cinderella Castle at Walt Disney World. But whatever it is, the biggest question I have about it is how something that's obviously a survivor of the old world handles being immersed - something it can't have been built for. How has it held together for ten thousand years? And where in the world is it?
*bounce* OKAY OKAY I HAVE THEORIES THIS IS GONNA BE LONG
and sorry I will probably destroy your beautiful caanan house dreams
You are a goddamn GENIUS! And hey, you didn't ruin it for me: I did say it'd be horrifying when we recognised it!
I think you're absolutely right. It's bound to be somewhere in New Zealand, and John would work with what he knows...
