for my younger friends out there:

when the urge and motivation to clean all the things hits, you ride it. you ride it to hell. you vacuum and mop and dust until the train drops you off and you need to stop.

because the things need to get cleaned. the laundry needs to be done and the floors need to be swept. if you don't do it when you feel like it, you'll just have to do it later when you don't and that will suck.

exceptions exist to this rule; don't hurt yourself if you're disabled. take breaks and drink water. not all chores are mandatory, no one is saying you can't keep your clean laundry in the dryer and turn it on before you get in the shower to guarantee cozy pants in the winter instead of putting things in your dresser drawers.

but never scoff at motivation. use it and be well.

my new thing whenever an embarrassing memory jumps up out of some backwater neuron to t-bone my present-day thought process is to declare a statute of limitations. like i can burn down an entire building in the state where i live and the law deems it both unfair and illegal to prosecute me after six years have passed, i think that thing i said in high school can be expunged from my record.

Okay, but this is actually kind of genius.

My family has a related Policy called "The Five Year Rule". Five years after an embarrassing or dramatic event happens to someone, everyone else has to shut up about it. This rule was created to keep some of my aunts from bringing up shit from fifteen and twenty years ago at family dinners.

So if you need to set a statute of Limitations: If it would be fucking rude of your auntie to bring up at thanksgiving, it's rude for your brain to bring up at 3AM too and it needs to eat some mashed potatoes and shut up.

some of you need to make your bed and have a shower with a soap that smells nice, and then sit in a chair near the window and have tea with milk and read a hardcover book and see how your creative block is after that tbh.

i'm not saying creative block isn't a real or difficult phenomenon. i'm saying creatives have a tendency to neglect themselves physically and emotionally in favor of manic bursts of productivity. a little softness and clean sheets and a bagel will go a long way. make a playlist and light the fancy candle you've been saving for a special occasion. life is a special occasion.

Hey from a fellow former redditor learning this site, you should probably also add your age in your bio. Most people on here expect at least that much personal info bc it’s up to them to block minors if they post NSFW stuff or just don’t want to interact with minors on here

I am "Don't share any personal identifiable information about yourself on the internet" years old.

No. No, we don't expect that and do not do this.

We just want to know you're a person, not a bot -- just put an icon in. Maybe change your them. Actually reblog some posts you liked. But hell, no, don't give real information about yourself.

Friendly reminder that it's ok to fail classes multiple times.

Friendly reminder that academics aren't a race and are way too competitive.

so much of being an ok person is just 1) not panicking, 2) not taking things personally, and 3) not letting the vindictive gargoyle that lives in your head tell you what to do. this sucks because brains love doing those things

This is your reminder that a lot of public libraries actually have little summer reading programs for kids AND adults!

This post is me acknowelging that some people go onto tumblr to escape the real world and to soothe themselves after stressful experiences, so if they block or ignore social justice and news stories so that their decompression isn’t interrupted with yet more stress, it is not only no one’s business but it makes perfect sense.

Never judge people for not reblogging something.
