General important notes from the Napoli Comicon panel
Hopefully the video fully resurfaces so I can translate the whole panel gah
- Broadcasters currently prefer female heroines according to Straffi, he will make sure to balance male characters too while still making female characters the dominant aspect. Specialists fans hopefully you'll be fine
- Straffi gives great importance to storytelling and darker themes and thanks anime for bringing these concepts to tv animation in the west and hopes to bring these elements back to Winx in the reboot. He wants Winx to be a bridge between the best of american and japanese animation, in european style.
- The reboot has only been in the works for one year, despite the last development on season 8 being 2017
- The reboot will go back to Bloom's origin story, "kinda like Spiderman and other superheroes"
- The story will contain more mature elements for older fans while still being appropriate enough for kids. Iginio may refuse to sell the shows to some networks if they bug him too much about such mature elements, he will not back down on targeting older fans too (BBC refused Winx for example)
- Nabu never died, he "disappeared" and could be brought back "anytime". The reason he was killed was just to up the stakes, compared to most american animation that avoids killing a character and dealing with darker themes. Please remember that according to a previous interview, Straffi admitted they ignored continuity for the sake of broadcasters' demands.
- Roxy is "a Winx from earth". She can come back "anytime". Please remember that according to a previous interview, there won't be a 7th main Winx.
- The reboot has a very high budget and the animation will be movie quality. Straffi was very nervous about showing the animation test clips but is happy the reception has been positive.
- NO MENTIONS of: Trix, specialists, fairy forms, live action movie project, Netflix
