The Shining Girls came out on Apple TV Plus last night!!! Don’t forget to listen to our Shining Girl episode discussions staring next week.
We will release the first THREE Shining Girls podcast episodes next week starting Monday (episode 1), Tuesday (episode 2) and Wednesday (episode 3) of next week!
This means that next week we will be having a week off our regular The Handmaid’s Tale episodes. But don’t worry we will be back to our regular programming the following week - with our bonus Shining Girls episode dropping on Tuesdays.

I loved their chemistry from the start, but I think I was sold on them in S1x6 when she comes to him to vent after the meeting with the Mexican ambassador.
This moment made me realize that there's more to them than just a sexual relationship. She's distraught and he knows it the second she walks in. He lets her say everything she needs to get out, just listening, giving her the space she needs & comforting her like a caring friend, not just a lover, when she's ready. Above all of this, he's the first one to get to know her real name!

◼️ By the way, “we” are just a group of THT fans from nearly every continent across the world. During the pandemic, we discovered a passion for talking all things THT, and especially Nick & June. There are already other The Handmaid's Tale podcasts of course, and they're amazing, and you definitely should listen to them, like we do. The difference between theirs and ours is that we felt that maybe they were more suspicious about the character of Nick Blaine from the outset than we were. Which produces a very different viewing experience and we thought there was space to discuss it from our perspective.
◼️ For us, Nick is clearly a very good hearted guy, in a terrible situation. But we never doubted his motivations, and we were able to really focus on enjoying the relationship between them.
◼️ So… that's how “Above the Garage” was born. We hope you join in!

So, Holly is a little older here, I thought about 4 or 5 years old, and a total goofball and tomboy. She'd never wear a dress, so she loves her Pugsley costume. 😉
Even though Nick could probably grow a real Gomez-like beard, he didn't, cause Holly was insisting she wants to paint him one - with June's eyeliner no less 😅

Another day in hell
Totally late on showing the updated version of this piece. Even though there are no pumpkins, ghouls, witches or whatever in this picture, the angsty horrific vibe I wanted to achieve with this one may still fit the season. (There will be a 100% Halloween themed post too soon)
I decided to go all black and white here, cause I feel like it fits Nick's state the most. Remember, he's all alone in Gilead, suffering every day to 'fulfill' his role as a commander, living a bleak life (black)... The only light (white) in his life just a memory and dream...
Also, I have no clue how his house looks like or if we will ever see it in the show? And I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter to him where he lives anyways, so I just went with a stereotypical old-fashioned style for his dressing room. Thoughts on this?
Osblaine Week Day 5: clothes
Don't tell me this prompt wasn't solemnly created for the purpose to get more Nick in suspenders?😏
This is very much still a WIP (there's still no real background here - lol), but I def wanted to post it today.
I love how it turned out and that I was able to put in lots of Nick's features that we appreciate in just one drawing:
✅As Lizzie would put it: look at that neck

✅Hands
But I also apologize that it's not a happy scene, but it is very much how I imagine him in Gilead atm...married (ring), worn out (I really went all in with wrinkles and grey hair here), numb...And maybe it makes us all feel sorry for him and the situation he's stuck in? 😩😢
Osblaine Week Day 3: parenthood
So of course it's obvious that June is a big part of this little family as well and I feel a little bad to have her not included in this drawing (you need to imagine that she made this photo of them with her smartphone when she went to meet him in 4x9 though and that she's holding this photo dear and shows it to Holly every single day before putting her to bed), but the impact of becoming a parent just hits on a different level for Nick.
When June told him she's pregnant, it completely changed his view on taking risks despite the danger he's putting himself in. He's acting like a father the instant he knows of the baby's existence, trying everything he can to protect and save them from a life in Gilead...not even caring if he'll ever see his baby.
And it breaks my heart every time knowing that this man has so much love to give but is just not allowed to do so.
Eden and June are right, Nick would be a great dad and I'm manifesting with this drawing that he'll get to hold Holly again...he just deserves this little peace of mind.
Osblaine Week Day 2: missing moments
When I was working on this piece there's been this lingering thought in the back of my head of when and where this could be set?
And as beautiful as their reunions in S4 were we still had to miss out on a steamy one.
Therefore I imagined this to be their meeting to plan Fred's demise and talk some more Hannah stuff too. Obviously this time Holly wasn't present and they could finally give in to their passion for each other.
So this is very much a missing moment and a moment we miss at the same time, because it's already way too long since we got some sexy action between them.

And Nick wearing a grey sweater was totally not unintentional.
I'm experimenting a lot with different drawing techniques and styles, so expect a lot of diversity in the future as well.

For a long time I couldn’t figure out if he was saying “you don’t need to dress in any particular way for a man, you just wear what you want to wear” like he was affirming her agency. Or if he was dropping sexual innuendos and saying”I’d rather see you naked cuz you want you bad.” I think both can be true at the same time and both are sexy and hot AF 🔥🔥. Nick empowers June and at the same time makes her feel desirable. I SWEAR THIS MAN 😫😭

It was cheeky and sexually implying of what they did, but also caring and bold, taking her out of the Handmaid's role at this point.

Yes Bc josh was way into motorcycles.
Josh liked rDriving way the fuck too fast- spent his weekends tinkering-
Nick knew if he wanted time w his brother the best way to connect was to spend some time “under the hood” in their driveway.
But as soon as he brought up AA meetings or recovery- josh would get pissed and drive off.
Motor cycles remind nick of josh. He doesn’t drive them much since it’s a bittersweet memory but once on vacation in Hawaii June convinced him to rent one
And they spent the day- riding together- june pressed close- in front- basically in his lap- it was one of the happiest memories ever for her. Her super cool badass boyfriend from Detroit taking her for a ride on a motorcycle.
She fucked him good that night. Begged him to get one IRL. Nick sighed. Knowing he could never say no to June.
THIS HAS ESCALATED IN THE BEST POSSIBLE WAY.
