The fact that they couldn’t find his dad when he was in police custody. Fred Andrews had to step in to save his ass. And then he showed up, still reeking of beer and malt liquor. But Jughead believed him, believed that somehow this time it would work out. He’d let himself become deluded, in denial, a hopeless kid who clearly wasn’t jaded enough to see the truth. “When you told me no one could track him down, I was surprised. And then I was instantly disappointed and angry with myself for thinking it would be any different.”
neither does she, betty realizes after a long moment of silence, the crunch of fallen leaves beneath their feet being the only sound filling the air. she knew her own parents weren’t the best set of people in all of riverdale ------ even jughead knew that, but... she never imagined that he, the crafty and intelligent jughead jones, had a problematic relationship with his parents ( rather, his father ) too.
but maybe the fact that betty couldn’t even remember one single instance fp jones acted like the father fred andrews was should have said enough.
❛ well, people don’t exactly change in an instant, juggie ; it can take them a while... or maybe even a long while. but he does seem like he wants to be a good dad, you know. give him some time, i’m sure he’ll come around eventually. ❜
