ask-sofia-arvino:
Lady Arvino was looking off to the distance, at the blue water. She had a small but tristful smile on her face.
“I wish I knew. No, I don’t believe it’s inherently due to just money, but… due to the effects it has on humans.” Sofia turned to Awa, trying to see if her explanation helped. “Money can keep you safe from many everyday dangers. It can provide comfort - but too much comfort in life makes you unprepared for the harshness of reality, once you get out. And everyone has to get out eventually.”
A pleasant wind was blowing, and Sofia raised her hand to hold her tiny hat, now smiling a bit more boldly. “You’re a good-hearted young woman, Awa; and I sense, strong-willed as well.  I am delighted to have met you.”
It was somewhat after noon, and clouds thickened around Zaun on the distant shore, the next destination of the cruiser.
“Awa, I have been… targeted by the evil of Zaun, or so they say. But I have been hurt much more by my native Piltover. Even so, if you plan on going to the city of privileges, don’t take anything for granted. Alright?”

Awa sat in silence for a while, processing what she just heard. She tried to push away the dreadful thoughts which came to her mind as Sofia mentioned how comfort makes you unprepared.

She set her eyes on the horizont, where Zaun could be seen. Her excitement slightly lowered, as the dreadful thoughts started taking over. What if she really was unprepared? Would she be safer at home?

She did her best to think of something else.

“So.... The evil of Zaun, huh? Like.... What kind of evil?” She followed Sofia’s gaze onto the blue water. “....Soon after we departed from home, i heard many people speak about Noxus. They said it is an evil place.” She looked into Lady Arvino’s eyes. “But i don’t think it’s evil, you know? It can be harsh, especially for people who weren’t born there. It was even for me. But i don’t think it’s evil. It’s just different from what the people were used to. Maybe it’s the same for the evil of Zaun you spoke about. Maybe it’s not evil, but different.”

"Hey, do you mind trying something out for me?" asked Vi

As a stranger approached her, Awa flinched a little bit, but upon hearing a request she smiled.

“Sure thing, miss. How can i help you?”

Awa’s eyes widened as Vi spoke. “You know Professor Heimerdinger?!” She asked, feeling a mix of excitement and fear. She was now looking at the cop with much more respect. “And you’re just going? In there? To show them your inventions?! That’s…. That’s amazing!” Awa almost jumped saying that.

“Yea,” shrugged Vi, “After I helped catch a thief trying to break in, he wanted to personally thank me, and after I got him to look at my inventions, he let me come in whenever to show them off. I can see if I can get him to look at any of your stuff if you want.”

Awa gently shook her head.

“Oh, no, i don’t really have many inventions i have finished on my own, just minor projects i needed for my university. I still appreciate your offer though!” She tilted her head, putting on an apologetic smile. “B-but…. D-do you think, i could, by a chance, see inside?”

“Sure, come on in,” said Vi, as she started to make her way in, “Do you have any of your projects by any chance. Everyone here’ll be interested, and who knows, you might be able to get in.”

Awa's eyes widened as the other invited her to the building. She never dared to dream about entering a Piltovian university, yet there she was.

"I, uh, no. I don't have any of my projects with me. I really just came to Piltover to see how different the techmaturgy here is from techmaturgy in Zaun. Best i could do are some general descriptions of what I'm working on right now." She lowered her head. "I was planning to study in Piltover at first, because everstone told me it'd be safer. I didn't get in because I'm Noxian, and those city-states aren't really fond of eachother. But, now i am in the middle of a year in Zaun's College of Techmaturgy. So, despite how much i appreciate your will to help, i think i will keep studying in Zaun."

Awa slowly closed the door of her new home, as if trying to avoid another panic attack from Sofia. She leaned on the door, thinking about the other’s words.

“Yes, i belive i know what you mean. It happens to me sometimes, when my hearing device sometimes stops working. I mean, i didn’t hear most of my life, and yet somehow losing my hearing causes me to panic.” She scratched her head. “I guess i can’t really invite you to come over then. Would you like me to walk you to the shop you were heading to instead? I could use some walking around to know the surrounding me area better.”

All she had to do was follow the map. Yet somehow she managed to wander off the path anyway, now lost in the middle of Ionia. Very nice start of a holiday. Awa tried to locate any town to get back on her track, but so far she had no luck. She was wandering around all day, and at this point beautiful Ionian scenery was more of a curse than a blessing, as lack of any characteristic spots caused her to walk in circles. Yet she remained positive, doing her best to think of a way to get out of this mess. She had to meet someone eventually, she couldn't be THIS far from civilisation, right? That's why, when she noticed something in the shape of huge gardens ahead, she instantly hurried towards it, hoping to find someone who could tell her where she is. She entered the gardens, and, not seeing anyone around the entrance, she moved deeper into the stunning smell of flowers, soon losing track of where the entrance was. //Starter for @mistressofionia

This was the smallest room Awa has ever seen.

The entire apartment consisted of very small kitchen, a bed, tiny desk and very small moving place. The room was on the highest floor, so the roof was falling down towards the bed, making already small room even smaller. Awa assumed the bathroom wasn’t really a part of her apartment, and was more of a publick place for everyone who lived on this floor. It didn’t feel like a small, dark hole though. The entire room was surprisingly well lighted, and the entire place was decorated in a very nice way, giving more of a comfy feeling.

“What do you think, Sofia? It looks pretty nice, if you ask me!” Awa opened the window to let in some fresh air. “And how practical! I won’t need to spend much time cleaning up!”

She really disliked small spaces, really disliked small spaces. She hunched over as she stepped in the room. Her claustrophobic nature stepping in slightly as she freaked out at first but she tried to control herself. Remembering she was a professional of Noxus. “It….seems better affixed then I had hypothesized it to be. Abd it’s small size does…offer….” She couldn’t do anymore she stepped out in a hurry standing outside the door.

“I apologize I suffer from a rather timid nature of claustrophobia. Forgive my rudeness.”

Awa hurried out of the room after Sofia, worried look on her face. Guilt and panic filled her on the inside, depsite the situation not really being her fault.

"Oh no, I'm so sorry! I had no idea! Are you alright?" It could be the lighting, but to Awa, Sofia seemed unusually pale at that moment. "You.... You're not going to faint, right? Because if you are it'd be better if i knew beforehand.... Can i do anything to help?"

“This is very interesting. Are those cupcakes created via magic? Because you know how it is with magical food - it doesn’t really feed you….” Awa recalled what she once read in a book, back when she couldn’t understand why don’t people just use magic to create food - it only made you feel like you’re fed. This caused many great wizards to starve - they only ate magical words, and starved without noticing. Magic could trick the mind, but not the body.

“Actually, it stores a lot of the ingredients needed in the back,” said Vi, “I managed to find a way for a storage area that’s about 50% bigger than the external size to fit within the machine. I’d show you but it only opens when its out of ingredients. It does tell you how much is left by this indicator though.”

"That's intriguing! And you said you are going to show it off at the Yordle academy? I read about it! They say it's a great place for scientists!" Awa started imagining how would the academy look like on the inside. Not having much to do with Yordles, she eventually gave up on the task, unable to picture foreign decor. "It must be just as amazing on the inside as it looks from out here!"

Awa sat on the fancy seat, at first curiously looking around, but once Sofia started speaking, she focused all of her attention at the other, clearly listening to ever word.

“I don’t really know much about money, miss. I’m sorry it brought you trouble. Is that why were you isolated? Because of the money?” Awa did her best to understand the woman. She never needed to be bothered with money, only getting some main explanations on how it works shortly before she moved out. The concept of money was fairly understandable, but had some uncertainties she couldn’t get.

“You can speak your mind freely, miss. I’m pretty sure i won’t mind hearing you out, and maybe i can even find a way to help you! That is, unless you don’t want my help. That’s okay, too.”

She shook Sofia’s hand. “My name is Awa. Pleased to meet you, miss Sofia.”
