The people who criticize Gorillaz for making new music only ever listened to feel good Inc, Clint Eastwood and DARE

There’s a lot of people who think that the new Gorillaz stuff doesn’t sound like Gorillaz anymore and here’s the thing,,
Everything and nothing could potentially sound like Gorillaz because Gorillaz is an experimental band created solely because Jamie and Damon thought the popular music spread by the media was shit. It was made to sound different and not like anything else that’s why for example you have songs like Empire Ants and Sweepstakes and Plastic Beach that are all on the same album and the record itself is labeled under hip hop, pop, electronica, trip hop, alt rock, etc.
There’s also the argument that it’s not gorillaz anymore because Damon rarely sings (see: humanz and now garage palace) and I kind of agree that it’s kind of a bummer but also you have to think about the fact that Damon is almost 50 years old.(please think about the fact that Damon did in fact create Sleeping powder in just a couple of days because he noticed people missed 2D so you can’t really say he doesn’t care about what the fans either) I think he knows that sooner or later his time on stage will end but he’s not milking it. He’s not trying to be cool or stay relevant because honestly,, how could he if he’s not even singing? Instead what he is doing is he’s inviting more and more collaborators that aren’t really that well knows in the industry and making them new stars that he thinks are worthy of being on the mainstream radio.
Damon has been around doing music for so long now he knows exactly how it all works so really, if he wanted to stay famous like he was in the 90’s he could easily do it.
Let’s be honest here for a second, how many of you never heard of people like for example Kelela or Popcaan or even Little Simz etc. but now listen to them almost if not regularly just because Gorillaz introduced them to you? It’s not Damon who’s trying to stay relevant. It’s not even about Gorillaz staying relevant. If it was in fact about Gorillaz you’d probably see Jamie confirm Noodle being lesbian (because lgbt is trendy right now and that way there would be more people tuning in) or something like that.
In conclusion, you may not like it, you can say it’s shit but you can’t really say it doesn’t sound like Gorillaz anymore if Gorillaz never had their own sound anyway and it was always a mix of every genre out there.
