So, tumblr. I am once again thinking about running AU Roulette this summer which means I have a couple questions for you all

1 - I am interested in finding one or two other people to help me run the challenge this year. My hope is to write a script to send out prompts so I am not physically typing up hundreds of emails like last year, but even if that works, it was undoubtedly a more popular challenge than I expected and responding to questions/request for re-rolls/etc would be much easier with help

2 - I am also trying to decide how long the challenge should be. Last year it seemed logical enough to make it a month, but honestly, that's not a lot of time to write three stories, for folks looking to write fills for all their prompts. I'm wondering about making it a longer challenge this year, though I haven't decided how long.

(And if you pick the second option, drop your thoughts on how long!)

Noting that people seem to like AU Roulette best as a month-long challenge, though it was fairly close! I may keep things the same this year and see how it feels -- keep watching for the official announcement post, which will probably be up soon.

In other news, I am still wondering if there is anyone who would be interested in helping me run things this year.

Working at the same organization as your spouse is fun. When you have to suffer through trainings/conferences/internal problems you can commiserate through gifs together.

today’s obsession is ancient tattoos, in particular the s-curved floral-antlered deer of the Siberian Ice Maiden and Scythian Chieftain

it’s such a heavily used trope in modern media (off the top of my head I can think of Pokemon, Annihilation, Bambi, Snow White and the Huntsman, etc) and why wouldn’t it be! antlers look like branches, branches look like antlers, it’s only natural to pair them

but it makes me strangely emotional that our brains have always worked this way, and been drawn to the same imagery over and over again.

I’m also going to resist the urge to make paired enamel pins of these ancient deer, even though I deeply desire little wearable tributes of the past

Make the enamel pin pls @pangur-and-grim

well okay, if you insist!

pre-orders are open for these ancient stag enamel pins at greerstothers.shop

and as an added bonus, the Scythian Chieftan’s ram!

I’ve spent 9.3k in vet bills the last four days (details under the cut), so these are once again up for pre-order!

Me, on the welcome desk in the library: Good morning, how are you today?

Customer: I have welcomed Jesus into my heart and so I am well today and every day.

Me, a little unnerved: Okay then! Is there something I can help you with?

Customer, digging around in his bag and pulling out an iPhone in a box: Unfortunately, Jesus can't help me with this fucking phone, so I came to the library.

family outing (full view!)

[ID: A digital drawing of Arceus, Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina. They are floating in space, Arceus leading them in a line, and Arceus is much larger than the other three. A yellow speech above it reads, “Children, this is cosmic dust.” Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina all have speech bubbles above them that say, “Dust.” End ID.]

honestly, I'm assuming the generational gap in supporting israel or palestine is because older people often skew more conservative and so reason that "at least the israel people are 'more like us' (often white-ish, decently wealthy, many immigrated from western countries)" while the palestinians are "oh ew poor people with no roots in a western country and also muslim".

older people still being obsessed with the whole "war on terror" bullshit might also empathize with israel due to the hamas attack because "oh look they're just getting revenge for a terrorist attack just like we did after 9/11". Confronting that one response is disproportional might mean having to confront that the other is too.

Ahhhhh okay I can see that awful line of thoughts. I suppose in my head I would think those folks would also see Israelis as middle eastern and therefore... Yeah. Israel was just in Eurovison so maybe I'm just slow on seeing it.

Why is there a generational divide with Palestine and Israel?

I haven't talked about it much because doing so will send me into a depression spiral, but I do watch what's happening around me.

I'm making general statements here. I know this doesn't cover everyone, but here's what I see.

Boomers and Gen X (not all) support Israel and Millennials (not all) and Gen Z support Palestine.

I see old folks in cars with the Israeli flag on them. One was even flying on a motorbike and the guy looked younger than my borderline Boomer/Gen X mom. Then there’s all the folks running schools and the government.

Meanwhile kids in college are getting attacked by the police for protesting and everything I see on tumblr (which skews younger) and tiktok is pro Palestine.

I understand other generational belief gaps (climate change, lgbtqia stuff, working from home, I could list so many examples) but this one just confuses the hell out of me. It's not like the older folks can't see what's happening?????

Please be nice if you do know where this comes from for the older folks I am honestly baffled.
