Darren Shan, Sons of Destiny
A collection of my processes for learning purposes!
Inktober 28, 29, 30 - Cirque Du Freak - Darren Shan, Mr. Crepsley, Evra Von, Harkat Mulds
Probably one of the only vampire stories that I ever enjoyed reading. Not really a fan of horror, but I was introduced to this book series by my summer school teacher in 6th grade. He read out loud the first two books and then I was hooked. Unfortunately I never finished the series, but I would say my favorite books were book 2 and 3. I really enjoyed Darren’s character development in that part of the story.
Amphibia premieres next week at 10am on Disney Channel to celebrate Collider posted some facts along with amazing backgrounds of the show!
- The Bizarre Bazaar is based on cultural Asian night markets, similar to those that can be found in Taiwan.
- Anne’s last name, Boonchuy, roughly translates to “one who encourages or performs good deeds” in the Thai language.
- Anne Boonchuy’s hair and overall look was inspired by an image that “Amphibia” creator Matt Braly had of his grandmother as a little girl (seen on the far right). Just like Anne, she was confident and fearless.
- The baskets at Bugball Field are made out of snake and rabbit skulls, natural predators of frogs.
- The Plantar family home is a rustic house carved out of a giant tree hollow.
- The Plantar’s living room clock and The Peak of Health (a place where Wartwood residents go when they’re sick) resemble a frog.
- The town of Wartwood does not have electricity, so the Plantar family must rely on bioluminescent mushrooms for light.
- The “Amphibia” town of Wartwood has a population of 88. [Editor’s note: Braly was born in 1988, so we’ll assume that’s of some significance here.]
As we’re looking at these gorgeous Amphibia backgrounds, I just wanted to make note of another Gravity Falls alum working on the show – the art director is Ian Worrel. No wonder it looks so great!
Sprig’s Parents?
Does anyone else think it’s interesting that Sprig lives with Hop Pop? Normally, I wouldn’t really question it, but the existence of Polly makes their situation go beyond the typical ‘parents were never around so they live here’ thing. Polly is a literal baby, which means that their parent’s disappearance is a very recent thing. Sprig would remember them.
I wonder what happened to them? And if the show will ever address it? I can’t help but notice that Anne hasn’t mentioned her parents either (but we do know that they exist because of that Thai food clip). I wonder if they’re saving this information reveal as a bonding experience between the two.
And, just as an add on, if this theory were true, it brings new light to Hop Pop’s financial struggles. Maybe he wasn’t struggling as much before two (now three) kids were dropped on his doorstep.
I was wondering about it too..i thought they'll mention them in the family shrub episode..I hope we 'll know more of them!
Theory time
Honestly when I first heard of Amphibia, I thought it was going to be a stupid kid show then I heard that Brenda Song was in it so I got interested. But I watch the show and I really enjoy it. It’s just a rare show on Disney that doesn’t have me sigh and wishing for my childhood back.
I’ve probably said it already but I’d just like to reiterate that Amphibia is a super fun and sweet show and if you liked the humor and family dynamic of Gravity Falls then this show is definitely worth giving a try
It's true, definitely worth watching!😊🐸

Alphys-mabel(..Malphys?) in the background behind Mabel!
Honestly, this was one of my favorite scenes in the book. Like I can hear the sound effects in my head if this were an episode.
I also love the fact that Stan immediately called up Ford, I really want to know what he said exactly.
