The formally haunted house-Cerus/Mikaela [closed rp]

She looped her arm around his with ease, and they started to walk together, steps synchronized. “Mm, you are a good man, you know that?” she said teasingly, reaching up to pat his cheek gently, then laughed a little at his next words. “I thought we agreed on using your powers only for emergencies?”
His pause halted her at the double door entrance. What a shame, she had a fleeting thought, the natural elegance of the building hidden under the atrocious decor. Mikaela turned with raised eyebrows, questioning his hesitancy, in time to see his smile faltering. His attempt on distraction didn’t go unnoticed, but Mikaela had seen enough of their surroundings to know how horrible it indeed was, no need to follow his gaze.
"Oh?“ There was a glint in her eyes, gone too soon to be interpreted, but the smile that followed was light, amused even. “And just moments ago I was thinking this event was going to bore me senseless.” She closed the gap between them, flicked an invisible dust from his coat, and looked up at him with the same playful smile. “I understand, love.” He had even added ‘ages ago’ for her benefit, and whether or not it was true, it was appreciated. “I would never expect you to be without any prior romance, really.. What’s her name?”

Cerus chuckled at her remark. “I try my best,” he nodded obligingly, taking her hand off his cheek to kiss it lightly. “And I’m just offering, in case this does turn out to be an emergency,” he explained mischievously. “One must always be prepared, right?”

Mikaela gave him a look, no doubt not having missed his hesitation or his thinly veiled attempt at a distraction; the woman missed nothing, he’d already realized that about her- and he liked it, a lot, too. He was apprehensive at her reaction to his words, though he smiled, with a hint of relief when she smiled, clearly amused. He snorted at her words, wrapping an arm around her as she closed the small distance between them, flicking invisible dust from his coat playfully. “Shannon, her name is Shannon,” he answered the question quickly. “Wasn’t really romance, more like a fling, at least on my end,” he shrugged casually; Mikaela was the only one in a long time that wasn’t really just that, he thought, probably because she never stopped intriguing him. “Her horrid taste in decoration is but one of her many…issues,” he sighed, rolling his eyes as he caught a glimpse of the woman in question, making her way towards the entrance. If she hadn’t seen them yet, she soon would.”Incoming,” he breathed to Mikaela, though he didn’t release her.

Her smile took a softer edge at his kissing her hand. "I can't say I'm not the same way," she replied to his remark about being always prepared, though a joke it might be. Perhaps that was one of the reasons why they worked so well together.

Mikaela let Cerus pull her even closer, noting the relief in his tone, and the way he was quick to answer, most likely eager to amend after quite the news. Shannon. First name only. That was not ideal, but she would not press him on the question. It would be a bit of a bother but the woman knew she could still work with that. "Not really romance on your part," she repeated his words, arching an eyebrow, "Perhaps you really did break the poor woman's heart."

But at Cerus' whispered warning, she tensed--certain it was noted by him, given their close proximity. She didn't mind his past, yes, but she could've strangled him over the way he had sprung this on her. Some things she would want to and needed to know in advance, and this was one of them. She inwardly filed a reminder to herself to have a certain talk with Cerus later. For now though.. Her fingers were light as ever as she placed them on the side of his face, and a butterfly kiss at a corner of his lips, pulling away as unexpectedly as it had started. "Stay put and keep her entertained for a moment, will you, love? I won't leave you for long, only to grab some drinks for us." She let a soft sigh at her next words, "I would probably need it."

Before Cerus had a chance to agree or decline she slipped from his arms, and glided among the crowd, quick to blend in. A glance over her shoulder to make sure neither Cerus nor the incoming woman could see her, then she pulled out her phone, typing swiftly.

[ to: Atha ] A young woman named Shannon promote this Halloween event we're attending. Give me everything there is to know about her ASAP.

The formally haunted house-Cerus/Mikaela [closed rp]

As the car rolled to a stop, Mikaela noticed the slight error in their clothing choices. She did not usually have this kind of problem, but judging from the other patrons arriving left and right, this one mistake could not have been hers alone.
She waited until Cerus was on her side of the car, pulling her door open, then slipped out, arranging the skirt of her dress discreetly so it would fall around her ankles as she stood. She took a moment to eye the surroundings, noting the glaringly orange pumpkins, the black felt bats around the wood-carved doors. A little to the childish side, gaudy at best. If there was anything to be praised of the decoration, it stayed loyal to the invitation she had seen prior. Well. She wouldn’t have had any dress to match the venue then.
“I have a feeling we couldn’t, though,” she replied, whispering back, her tone a bit teasing. “Don’t get me wrong, love, I’d rather we bolt into the night sky with one of those brooms over there, but you wouldn’t bother invite me if attendance isn’t somehow necessary. Besides, it would be rude to just leave as soon as we arrive.” She reached for his hand and together they walked the several stairs up to the entrance.
“Which reminds me, by the way, you haven’t told me who’s the promoter?”

Oh this is going to be a nightmare was a thought that repeatedly ran through Cerus’ mind, as he pointedly tried to not stare too much at the haunted house decor- if one could call it that; it literally hurt his eyes, he thought, only  very marginally amused.

He offered his arm to Mikaela with a smile all the same, the woman herself observing their destination with utmost scrutiny in those stunning eyes of hers. “It’s for a good cause,” he nodded to her words. “Else I wouldn’t have bothered and yeah, those brooms are looking very inviting,” he sighed back with a faint smile at the same time. “We can make a quick appearance, I’ll leave a cheque for the charity and, though I can’t fly you away on a magic broom, I can stop time long enough for us to disappear into the night,” he murmured to her playfully.

His smiled did falter at her next words, however. “Yeah. About that,” he held her back, letting a few couples pass them by. “I was briefly…involved with her; ages ago. She thought it was more serious than it was; keeps inviting me to these things she organizes in hopes of luring me back,” he sighed, nodding towards the blindingly bad decor. “I think you can tell why I wasn’t interested.”

Tempting Fate-Lomear/Mortia [closed rp]

The reaper gave a meaningful glance toward the bodies lying on the ground. “I hear your words but I am not seeing it through your actions,” she replied, still in the soft tone she had before. “What’s innocence to you? Are you its creator? Familiar with it so completely that you get to decide who is and who isn’t?”
She was not surprised with the way his tone took an incredulous note. Her shoulder lifted and dipped in a barest shrug, her smile unwaveringly cryptic as she repeated his word, laced it with her own meaning, “Seriously.”

The elf snorted, rolling his eyes at her words. “They have been raiding villages, filled with quiet people who minded their own homes and business. Killing them all, down to the last child. I may know little of innocence, my lady, but I do know that when someone kills a babe in its cradle, they deserve neither mercy nor quarter,” he grimaced.

There was more than power in her tone now, to that single word spoken with an intimate meaning of its own. “I cannot say I really believe in that sort of thing,” he raised an eyebrow.

"Oh, but what you knew was only a sliver of all truth, was it not? You could not possibly know if the little kid in the next village they were going to visit is going to burn a thousand villages down twenty years from now--" the smile on her features grew with cold amusement-- "or if another baby in another cradle is going to wipe out your entire race fifty years from now."

Her tone didn't change at his raised brows. "And I cannot make you believe, and nor will I." She raised her chin, an appraising gaze on her face. "I only ask you to steer clear of my path, and not bother me any further."
