Please be aware that the "opt-out" choice is just a way to try to appease people. But Tumblr has not been transparent about when has data been sold and shared with AI companies, and there are sources that confirm that data has already been shared before the toggle was even provided to users.

Also, it seems to include data they should not have been able to give under any circumstance, including that of deactivated blogs, private messages and conversations, stuff from private blogs, and so on.

Do not believe that "AI companies will honor the "opt-out request retroactively". Once they've got their hands on your data (and they have), they won't be "honoring" an opt-out option retroactively. There is no way to confirm or deny what data do they have: The fact they are completely opaque on what do they currently "own" and have, means that they can do whatever they want with it. How can you prove they have your data if they don't give everyone free access to see what they've stolen already?

So, yeah, opt out of data sharing, but be aware that this isn't stopping anyone from taking your data. They already have been taking it, before you were given that option. Go and go to Tumblr's Suppport and leave your Feedback on this (politely, but firmly- not everyone in the company is responsible for this.)

Finally: Opt out is not good under any circumstance. Deactivated people can't opt out. People who have lost their passwords can't opt out. People who can't access internet or computers can't opt out. People who had their content reposted can't opt out. Dead people can't opt out. When DeviantArt released their AI image generator, saying that it wasn't trained on people who didn't consent to it, it was proven it could easily replicate the styles of people who had passed away, as seen here. So, yeah. AI companies cannot be trusted to have any sort of respect for people's data and content, because this entire thing is just a data laundering scheme.

(and that the asterism the Big Dipper is in fact the rear end of said celestial Great Bear.)

At the Minnesota Fringe Festival in 2018 there was a show called “Hamlet, But Hamlet’s a Chicken.” It was more or less what it said on the tin. They had made arrangements to borrow some therapy chickens, and for any scene that needed Hamlet, an affectionate handler gently carried in that day’s chicken (it would be one specific chicken for any given performance, but they didn’t have one chicken play Hamlet the whole time as that would have stressed out the chickens) and set her on the stage and then the chicken got to wander around and do whatever she wanted as the other actors did the scene.

There was also, I think, a scene with swordfighting where it was “the fight scene, but everyone’s using pool noodles” and some other similarly bizarre changes, but the MAIN thing I remember

was Hamlet’s soliloquy

because they just announced, “Hamlet’s soliloquy!” and then brought out the chicken and set her on the stage and then let her just hang out being a chicken for like FIVE MINUTES and the entire audience watched, completely riveted. It helps that chickens are cute. At one point she fluffed up her feathers and everyone gasped. A+ show, would go see it again.

I think one of my favorite DnD Things is when random rolls become retroactive Lore/Quirks for the character. Not even as a DM ruling, I mean something the whole table adopts organically, whether seriously or as a running joke.

In an ongoing urban campaign, one of our first adventures was exploring a tunnel system under the city and fighting some undead, weirdly Greek monsters, etc… Early on, my fighter nat1’d a History check about the tunnels, and someone—the DM? me? another player? it’s lost to the mists of time—suggested that the only thing I knew about the secret tunnels was that mole people were said to live in them. With the nat1, I was now absolutely certain that we were looking at proof of the legendary mole people.

Almost every single time I’ve rolled a nat1 since in that game, I’ve made it somehow about the mole people that my fighter is 100% certain exist. Failed Perception check? I heard scurrying and saw a giant hairless tale whipping around that corner! Failed attack? I saw a mole (normal-sized) dart into that bush a got distracted—do you think they carry messengers for their human-sized masters? And obviously any failed knowledge-type check (History, Nature, etc) turns up more details of the urban legend…

I dunno if this counts, but it's one of my favorite stories, so:

One of the things that is in my Mage: the Awakening character Fox's (any pronouns) standard setup for missions is a spell that allows them to take on certain animal traits. Usually she does things like infrared vision and toxin resistance, and they always, always load in wall-walking. I've been playing her for fifteen years and I always set this up and it has never mattered. Everyone forgets.

Including my spouse, who was running the investigation we were on when there was an Important Item on the ceiling.

She intended this to be a major obstacle, how to get this thing down without destroying it.

And Fox just... walked up the wall and picked up the thing.

It just became so routine that everyone forgot, oh right, Fox always sets herself up to do that.

And o m g the sense of narrative payoff I felt was incredible.

the most ironic thing about pro ai people being like “BUT IMAGINE IF THERE WAS A DISABLED PERSON WHO COULDNT DRAW?! AI ART WOULD BE SUCH A USEFUL TOOL TO DISABLED PEOPLE WHO ARE PHYSICALLY UNABLE TO DRAW!” is that by virtue of saying that they have outed themselves as knowing jack shit about the online art world because a huge majority of artists have carpal tunnel or some other pain condition in their hands like tremors that makes drawing Painful. like ohhh wow yeah ….it would be such a huge innovation if there was …. a tool that would make drawing easier….it’s not like every art program on earth comes with ….. oh i don’t know… a stabilizer that would completely alleviate this problem..??? yeah it would be really nice if that would happen. but yeah it’s such a miracle of technology that we disabled people FINALLY have a method of creating art! by creating something completely artificial and inauthentic !!! it’s SUCH a gift from god THANK you random person on the internet! do you want all the disabled people in the world to come to your house and throw a party? do you want a cake? do y
