Fictitious Project Revision

In this assignment, I made revisions to my fictitious site based on the feedback that was provided. I have included “before” and “after” screenshots of all of the changes made.

Three major changes I made to my fictitous site are the logo in the left top header, some font styles and the alignment of the photo and the text in the “Our Story” section. In addition to these changes, I also revised the “Contact” section, as this was previously filler text. Lastly, I shortened the text in “Our Story” along with changing the alignment with the photo.

Portfolio Site

For this assignment, I’ve created a Wix website for myself as a Media Expert. The purpose of this site is to display my professional skills and experience, my resume and relevant coursework and education. It also features a blog and a “Meet the Expert” page to allow potential clients to build a personal relationship with me.

I am proud of the site that I’ve created thus far. I chose to use Wix because I enjoyed working with the editor when creating the site for my fictitious company.

Moving forward, I’ll leverage this site as my personal business page and store. I’ll continue to add my school assignments and Freelance work to my gallery and project pages. I’ll also begin building testimonials and reviews from current and past clients as well as co-workers, collaborates and possibly classmates.

The area that is currently the strongest is the site itself. I’ve acquired a decent amount of experience in Personal Branding. My proposals, Media Strategies, Presentations and Style Guides are strong. I’m confident in my presentations and content creations as well.

The area that needs the most work is my resume. In the past year, I’ve worked on a handful of temporary projects. The experiences were great; however, I’d like to add long-term experience to my resume. I’m hoping that my current position as the Public Relations Manager of James Club Recovery provides the long-term experience that I’m looking for.

Three goals that I’ve set for myself when revisiting this site are; curating and displaying coursework, updating my blog and gaining client testimonials. In the beginning of my education at Full Sail, I was enrolled in Creative Presentation and Visual Arts in the Media and Entertainment Industries. This work was not only done on a different computer, but the assignments in VEM were posted on a site that is no longer accessible to me. These assignments would be great assets to my current portfolio. Moving forward, I’d like to keep my portfolio and my blog up-to-date on a continual basis, so I don’t lose content that displays my skill set and knowledge. Lastly, I’d like to have a handful of positive reviews and testimonials to display before graduation. Overall, this site is a work in progress. It is far from finished and will need to be managed and maintained continually.

Portfolio Strategy

In this Portfolio Strategy, I’ve composed a Style Guide, a Site Map and Wireframes that will serve as guides in building my website. The site will be used to showcase my school and professional work, my resume and any client testimonials or feedback.

Style Guide:

SiteMap:

Wireframes:

I am proud of the content that I’ve created for this Portfolio assignment. This is my first experience using Site Map and Wireframe tools.

Moving forward, I’ll leverage this plan to display my skills and experience as a Media Professional. My plan consists of finalizing my logo and tagline, curating and showcasing my work, expressing my personal style and refining my Personal Brand. The website that I’m creating will allow me to send my resume and portfolio to potential clients who are interested in my Freelance Social Media services. As I continue through my courses, my portfolio and website will continue to improve as I continue to gain new skills.

The areas in my portfolio that are strongest are my Style Guide, Site Map, Wireframes and Content Inventory. I believe I have a strong understanding of these concepts and tools.

The area in my portfolio that needs the most work is Graphic Design. I have a strong understanding of content design, creating and implementing a theme and curating content. However, creating content with Photoshop or Illustrator can be challenging and I wish to continue improving these skills.

Three goals I’d like to set for building my site in upcoming courses are to write blog posts, create YouTube videos and gain traffic. This site will not only serve as my portfolio, but it will have sales functionality as well. Ultimately, clients will be able to order product and services from this site. Although I’m creating a free site in order to display my Full Sail coursework, I will purchase my Domain in the future when I’ve decided on my name and Logo for my Personal Brand. Readers will be able to subscribe to my blog, view my portfolio, learn about the services I offer as well as make purchases.

Fictitious Site Launch

In this activity, I have created a website for my client Reel Deal Tacos. The website features a blog, their story, food truck locations and an up-to-date menu. The site also includes social buttons featured on the header and footer so users can connect via other platforms.

For this assignment, I was able to meet all of the goals that were outlined in my project proposal. I designed the website using the Site Map and Wireframe that I created in the previous assignment. I made no promises that were undeliverable. I created a visual menu with high-resolution photos, a “user-generated” gallery, a calendar displaying events, locations and times, a blog and links to all social profiles. The site is visually appealing, easy-to-use and mobile-friendly. The theme is a combination of fresh-market as well as fishing. I felt that it was important to emphasize the fresh-catch aspect of the fish tacos. In order to do this, I included fishing photos and blog posts with tips and tricks. This also expands the targeted market to individuals who are passionate about fishing and fresh seafood. If I had more time to go deeper into this project, I would create original content rather than using a combination of stock images and images provided in our class resources. I would also write original blog posts. Overall, I value the experience gained from this project and I’m satisfied with the outcome.

Content Management Systems (CMS)

In this activity, I have reviewed multiple Content Management Systems, in order to build a website for my fictitious client. I’ve researched Wix, Wordpress, Weebly and Squarespace. I have chosen Wix because it is user-friendly and meets the needs of the client’s site.

Wix is rated one of the top website builders today. They also offer a mobile app that allows users to edit their website from their device. It’s easy to use and has many template options available.

This is my first time building a Wix site. However, I have edited and managed a client’s Wix site and had a great experience. No tutorial was needed in order for me to complete my tasks.

I chose a fishing theme for my site because I wanted to emphasis the fresh catch aspect of my client’s business. Bob and Brenda have a passion for the coast as well as fishing. Their story focuses on the time they’ve spent on the ocean, as well as Brenda growing up on her father’s boat. These experiences combined with their love of fresh fish tacos are what led to their dream of Reel Deal Tacos. I wanted to highlight these components of their story because this is what sets them apart from other taco trucks in the area.

The features I will leverage in order to meet the business needs of the client are the blog, social links, the calendar and the photo gallery. The blog will be a major contributor in the content strategy because it allows for readers to build a relationship with the owners of the business. When creating a marketing or content strategy, it is imperative to leverage features that allow users to remain engaged, not just by retweeting or liking content. Potential clients want to get to know the brand. By utilizing a blog that shares tutorials, updates, fishing stories, behind the scenes and recipes, readers will become invested into the lives of Bob and Brenda and will feel a sense of connection with them. The photo gallery will allow readers to view the actual product, taken on the iPhones of the owners and photos taken by actual customers. This will build trust with other potential customers. The site will also display reviews to allow potential customers to see what others are saying and encourage them to try it out.

I haven’t used any CMS that I wouldn’t recommend. This is my first time building a Wix site from scratch and has been a pleasant experience.

Writing for the Web

As part of my web strategy for Reel Deal Tacos, I have agreed to create engaging content that will drive sales and encourage brand loyalty. In this activity, I’ve written an introductory blog post that will be displayed on the company’s website. In addition to the introduction, I’ve created a flyer for an event that will will be promoted through the site and social profiles, in order to gain new customers.

Welcome!

Our fish tacos are the Reel Deal! Waking up everyday on the Coast of sunny California, we begin each morning at the markets of costal docks and local farms to ensure that we’re serving only the freshest organic ingredients. Combining our love of fresh, local seafood, sunsets and the Coast of San Diego, we are proud to serve the community with only the best.

We will be serving lunch from 11am - 2pm and dinner from 5pm - 9pm. Be sure to subscribe to our blog for updates, recipes, how-to’s and giveaways! Follow our rotating truck location via our calendar and social profiles to see when we’ll be in your area! We’re so excited to be serving the community of San Diego, and can’t wait to meet each of you.
