Thanks to the wonders of downloads and DVDS, some time in the last few years I discovered that the TV shows I enjoyed the most were ones that had been off the air for thirty years or more. Perhaps it was because the people who created them felt no need to be deep and meaningful and realistic. Who knows? I just find them fun. At the moment I'm into Dark Shadows and Classic Doctor Who - but don't be surprised if I suddenly talk about Adam Adamant Lives! or The Sweeney instead!

Part 3 of Media I would introduce Murderbot to:

• Downtown Abbey (MB said it likes “endless historical family dramas.”)

•The Crown (same as above)

•Nature documentaries

•Pride and Prejudice (the book, the miniseries, and the movie. No sex, plenty of drama, low stakes- I think MB would enjoy this a lot)

•Steven Universe (Don’t hate me for this. It has a lot of the hallmarks of things MB has said it likes: family drama, colorful action sequences, very little actual death, and it’s funny on occasion)

•Crash Course videos (a lot of practical + cultural information condensed into small and entertaining packages. MB would at least find them useful.)

I think that Murderbot would enjoy Charles Dickens. His novels are very theatrical, have long rambling narratives with a lot of surprise twists, dozens of characters, and coincidences by the score. Not to mention that feral nineteenth century capitalism would be easily understandable for someone from the CR. (Of course Murderbot might wonder why debtors get slung in prison in Dickens' books instead of being sent down the mines to work off the debt, but he'd certainly understand the principle behind it!)

Oh lol so while I’m here speculating about character motivations

I’m now up to Rogue Protocol in my Murderbot re-listen, and when Don Abene is grilling MB about who it is and who sent it, just after they met, it tells her that it has been investigating a possible connection between GrayCris and alien remnant mining on Milu. And then Don Abene goes « ah, this begins to make sense » and basically drops the subject. Later, she implies that she has known for a while that « Rin » is a big fat lie and that MB is here alone.

My theory is: we know that by this point, new stories have already started going out about Dr Mensah’s loose rogue SecUnit. Dr Mensah of Preservation, which is in the middle of a legal battle with GreyCris about alien remnants and murdering people. There is no way she doesn’t know about this legal battle, since she is tasked with assessing a former GreyCris planet. Her mission briefing must have mentioned their current legal trouble as part of the assessment of the corporation.

The loose rogue SecUnit part is fairly new, but if she had been following that developing story at all, then she definitely would have known about it.

So my theory is that when the definitely sus SecUnit who just showed up, saved her life, befriended her bot, immediately started antagonizing her security team AND is obviously lying thru its teeth mentioned investigating alien remnants, she must have connected a few dots and came to the conclusion that there can’t be that many loose SecUnits around and that one is definitely Mensah’s. Lol.

Let's not forget that at the end of Exit Strategy Don Abene knew to contact Preservation about hiring the services a certain security expert named "Rin". She definitely connected the dots eventually, even if she didn't figure it out at the time.

So I recently started reading the Murderbot Diaries and after finishing System Collapse I am now convinced that the average corporate wouldn't recognize a rogue SecUnit if it skipped up to them in full armor, called them a stupid motherfucker, and backflipped into the nearest uncrewed, passengerless cargo transport

That's because most corporates believe their own propaganda and think that all rogues immediately go on a killing spree once they slip their governors. (Check out what the GrayCris representative says in "Exit Strategy" if you want evidence.) Therefore: Rogue SecUnit = String of corpses, and No dead bodies = SecUnit is not Rogue.

Given the sudden interest for the color of dresses and vision, here some of the fascinating findings we did recently.
The color nuances we see depend on the number and distribution of cones (=color receptors) in our eye. You can check this rainbow: how many color nuances do you count?
You see less than 20 color nuances: you are a dichromats, like dogs, which means you have 2 types of cones only. You are likely to wear black, beige, and blue. 25% of the population is dichromat.
You see between 20 and 32 color nuances: you are a trichromat, you have 3 types of cones (in the purple/blue, green and red area). You enjoy different colors as you can appreciate them. 50% of the population is trichromat.
You see between 33 and 39 colors: you are a tetrachromat, like bees, and have 4 types of cones (in the purple/blue, green, red plus yellow area). You are irritated by yellow, so this color will be nowhere to be found in your wardrobe. 25% of the population is tetrachromat.
You see more than 39 color nuances: come on, you are making up things! there are only 39 different colors in the test and probably only 35 are properly translated by your computer screen anyway :)
It is highly probable that people who have an additional 4th cone do not get tricked by blue/black or white/gold dresses, no matter the background light ;)
(x)

I see 21 colors. I had no idea there are so many more.

I see 35-39 colours, and I hate the colour yellow. That was actually what made me curious enough to stop scrolling and count. Who knew there was a scientific reason behind my colour preferences? So the idea here is that what I see as annoyingly, garishly bright, most people don’t see as clearly, and that’s why it’s “cheerful?” (I’ve never understood that description of yellow.)

:) 39

I think I only ever had 2 yellow things. 1 hoodie and 1 pajama shirt, both i’ve worn until they either fell apart or were so ratty looking that it was no longer salvageable.
