Pirate Homra au pls pls (p.s lots of mikoto stuff if possible). Hope you are well, love your blog!

Thank you so much!!

As usual with Mikoto, I imagine being the captain of a ship would be something he came by completely by accident. Izumo worked on his uncle’s trade ship, called Homra, and inherited the captaincy when his uncle was injured and could no longer work, and Mikoto had been working alongside him. However, they soon discovered that the people on the ship just took a liking to Mikoto, and respected/obeyed him the most, so he ended up as captain (though Izumo was the brains of the operation as first mate).

I imagine Tatara’s role would be as a translator- he seems the kind of person who would be very good at learning languages, so having him around makes trading a lot easier. He works on the ship with the others, obviously, but he’s quite small and weak so he gets in the way a lot, so he’s mostly relegated to caring for the ship’s cats and things like cleaning.

The Homra members would be the ship hands- all wayward young men, often with either little family, little money, or both, who started working for Izumo as a way of earning a living- they were often considered roughians and struggled to find work elsewhere.

I think they’d get into piracy mostly by accident, through the means of seeing a slave trading ship. I think it would be Tatara’s idea to intervene- he wouldn’t be able to stand the sight of it, and he’d get quite upset, and Mikoto and Izumo would also be left with a sour taste in their mouth, so they’d come to the decision to hijack the ship and free the slaves on board. With a ship full of roughians and thugs who can hold their own very well in battle, they manage this quite successfully, and decide that they’re outside the law now, they might as well continue. (The only person who has an issue with this is Saruhiko, who, as much as he appreciates that the raid on the slave ship was well-intentioned, he doesn’t want to become a pirate full-time, so he quits to start working for the Royal Navy, under Reisi’s captainship, and quickly rises through the ranks on a vessel called the Sceptre 4).

As pirates, Homra mostly hijacks wealthy trade ships coming from the colonies with stolen wealth and slaves. This is how they found Anna- she was aboard a trade ship having been kidnapped to be sold into the sex trade for wealthy Europeans living in the colonies. They attempted to find her family back in her home country, but were unable to locate them, so Anna stayed with them on the ship, having taken a deep liking to the crew but especially Mikoto and Tatara, who had become like fathers to her. Besides, there was nowhere else for her to go- people seemed to think she was a witch and even the church didn’t want to take her in, so she became the ship’s good luck charm, and a sister or a daughter to everyone onboard. Mikoto is very protective of her.

As a captain, Mikoto is quite relaxed, and discipline isn’t strict because his crew all respect him and there’s no need for it, aside from the occasional telling off for drunken bar fights by Izumo. The only thing Mikoto is strict about is that the only ships they target are wealthy and can afford to lose the money, and they mostly use extra funds to fund hijacking operations on slave trade ships, and other human trafficking ships. They also don’t hurt traders on regular trade ships unless in self-defence, but slave traders are fair game.

Mikoto quickly tires of being a pirate though- as much as the work they’re doing is good, he’s the kind of person who would rather spend his time sleeping on a beach somewhere, so once Anna is in her early 20s, she takes over the captaincy of the ship, becoming the most famous and most feared of the few female pirate captains operating at the time, getting the nickname of the White Witch. She continues Mikoto’s work hijacking slave and human trade ships, and Mikoto and Tatara (mostly Tatara) open a bar in a port town, where the crew of Homra often stops between journeys.

Hugs the King gently; nothing like a protective act of affection for the child.

The gesture was reciprocated gladly, crimson eyes closing as the girl indulged in the affection she was granted. Such were considered the greatest gift one could bestow her, and she’d esteem them endlessly, relishing in the sensation of safety they offered ( albeit she was far from defenseless even on her own ). And Takehiko, in particular, was her safe haven.

Chin tipped upwards to readjust her gaze onto the female’s features, head tilted a tad only in quite child-like artlessness.

Whispers; you are the best thing that ever happened in my life.

A smile graced pallid lips, an expression of fragile innocence that she bore so seldom only -- but all the more frequent around her father. Misfortune had accompanied her for long enough yet finally she seemed to have found peace ( and perhaps not only her but also the man that had lived a life with the absence of light for centuries ). Lithe hands were quick to grasp his larger one, raising it as she rested her cheek against the rough knuckles.

-----How well aware she was of that very hand having held others’ in a tight grip, fingers digging into sensitive skin to bruise and choke. How well she remembered how gentle that hand could be, patting her head or holding hers as though he was afraid of her breaking apart

And she knew she was safe; would always be at his side -- until the very end.

Her touch went mostly unnoticed, focus was now upon her next words ;  what was it what she had kept for herself for so long?  “Just what?”  It was not his intention but he already sounded slightly angered.  “… I know, …”  he mumbled.  “But there’s still the chance tha’ ya’ will end up in Soul Society …”  or in Hueco Mundo.  “What do you mean, … in a few years?!”  Now his grip tightened upon her hand before suddenly pulling the petite girl up and pressing her against his chest.  “Don’t tell me, … don’t tell me ya’ gonna … die so early already, j-just ‘cause of this whole red king thing?!”  Which he still not quite understands.  “Anna, … why … why would ya’ get into such a position, wasn’t there … any other choices?!”
Image

Anna did not resist as Grimmjow pulled her close, exhaling slowly to remain as composed as possible. This talk was supposedly long overdue. “-----No, there weren’t... I tried to suppress my powers at first, and Izumo even went to Germany to collect more data on the Dresden Slate but... Well, there wasn’t anything we could do.” She well remembered the months after in which she had been with Kamamoto mostly, how the Green Clan had begun to chase the two of them ( another occurrence which she had kept from her father ) and kidnapped her, wanting her to pinpoint to location of the Silver King. “It’s... My powers, they’re unstable. I can’t always control them well.”

“…”  Sometimes he got the feeling she was keeping something important for herself, it just made no sense for him, how desperate she almost sounded, why was the promise so important to her? Was she not believing him that he would be a good father for his own son? Had she so little faith in him?  “Anna … are you even trustin’ me in any way?”  he slowly asked and tried his best to hide his disappointment.  “Am … I not a good father? I know ‘m not the best but … ‘s it really that bad …?”
Image

Eyes widened a tad upon hearing the disappointment in her father’s voice, and she immediately leaned forward, her grasp on his hand tightening. “No! I didn’t mean it that way! You’re a really good father to me, and I do trust you, it’s just...” Trailing off, Anna took a moment to consider her words -- she truly didn’t like talking about this topic. Especially with him. “I’m... I’m human. Eventually... I won’t be here anymore. But I am also the Red King, so that time might come in a few years already. I’m afraid of how it might affect you.”

“Wha’ …?!”  Why was she so serious already, perhaps even a tad sad. He could not quite, not at all explain this sudden change in her mood, but she had been always a bit mysterious.  “Why ar’ya sayin’ this, Anna? M’ his father, I would never do such thing, no matter what.”  He could not think of any possible scenario which would turn him into a Rabenvater.  “Of course, he already does so with his existence alone. Neku ‘s wonderful and probably full of surprises as you, can’t wait for th’ moment ta’ see ya’ both together. Once he’s older he gonna be more in da’ livin’ world too, … I just hope ya’ both get along, I don’t know … siblings tend ta’ have quarrels…”
Image

“Just... Just promise, okay? Please.” Her voice turned more pleading ( and so did her expression ), both of her hands reaching out to grasp her father’s again. Alas, a promise would not do much if Grimmjow were to truly fall into a pit of grief and anger, however... perhaps, if he recalled it, he’d eventually come back to his senses. Harribel, as well, would do her best -- Anna was certain of it. The images he was painting now brought a smile to her face ( both happy and sad ). “You don’t have to worry... I’m sure we’d get along.”

“What ‘bout him?”  Was she mad that he was not currently by his side? Harribel was by him and Anna should know he would return to his wife once he had spent enough time with her, his daughter.  “He has it good…”  Voice almost harsh but then he could not hide the small grin on his lips when he thought about his family, he was happy ;  perhaps not fully as there were still some issues but so far, all looked good.

“-----Promise me to not shut him out. No matter what happens.” She couldn’t be certain what Grimmjow would do once her time came -- her death was inevitable albeit she would not mention it explicitly now. It would do him no good, Anna could tell as much, yet her father was unpredictable in many regards. “I know you can give him a lot of happiness... And he can give you a lot of happiness in return, as well. You just have to allow it.”

“Yeah, … but believe me, even tho’ I weren’t fond of da’ idea t’ this all, already told myself from the start tha’ I will protect you, yer mah’ daughter after all, a wonderful one…”  Grimmjow admitted with a serious tone, though it softened and he gave Anna a little smile at the end, before he could just frown as he did not know about whom she might be talking.  “Ya’ mean mah’ fracción?”  Though he did not really push them away, maybe a little in a different way, or was she talking about her ? Her mother.
image

Albeit his words brought a faint smile to her lips, she could not completely hide the pain behind it. Grimmjow had indeed protected her and given his best as her father, even when they had not been that familiar with each other at first ( and even though Anna had not been the easiest child to have ). However, she proceeded to focus on his question, shaking her head lightly in return. “-----No.” Pausing, the teenager contemplated on whether it was a good idea to remind Grimmjow in such a way -- perhaps she was simply suppressing his own memories. “I’m... talking about your son.”

“How  —  ?”  and what is when he does not want? Whatever she says, he could not do it. Just suddenly stopping to fight Kurosaki, wish his death was not that easy. And if, he probably had to talk with the teen and not with Anna about this.  “It sounds impossible,”  he commented and then let go of her hand, he was alone in this.  “Did I not already do that with you … and kind of yer friends?”  Grimmjow asked, already some slight annoyance to hear in his voice. No one really seems to understand his issue with Kurosaki, not even he but at least more than others.
Image

Anna didn’t object as he pulled away his hand, gaze shifting back up to him. Perhaps this was not the best topic to talk about, but it was merely an attempt. “-----You did. With difficulties.” Head tilted to the side as she recalled their very first meeting in that Cafe -- when Grimmjow had almost appeared as though he hated the mere thought of having a daughter. “But... I’m also talking about someone else. Someone you first invited into your life but then pushed away.” Mayhaps Grimmjow would now realize that this... wasn’t real. Not entirely, anyway.
