Happy birthday, Chris! We love you! ❤
In honor of Martin’s birthday, I present this fine collection of our favorite blue boy being completely adorable with his animal friends. We love you, Martin! ♥
Have you seen the Wild Kratts special "Cats and Dogs?" Do you like it?
Sadly, I’ve been completely swamped and haven’t had a chance to watch it yet. Hopefully soon!
Happiest of birthdays to our Chris! ♥
Consider: A 3-almost-4 year old Martin asking about the baby growing in his mother's tummy. 4 year old Martin poking a 1 month old Chris asking him to do something, anything more interesting than just sleeping and eating. 2 year old Chris toddling after his 6 year old brother whenever Martin's not at school, wanting to do whatever Martin's doing. 5 year old Chris and 9 year old Martin playing outside together every day after school.
Consider: the brothers as small children.
4 yo Martin, dragging infant Chris into the woods past the backyard: Since you like puppies like I do I wanna take you to see the coyote puppies I found. Mom said not to go near them but they’re really nice dw
Mom, sitting inside:... They’ve been quiet for almost 20 minutes now.
Dad: Sure have.
Mom: ...They’re doing something dangerous
Dad, getting up: Yeah I got it
Consider: A slightly older Martin promising their mom, as he and Chris head out on their first (authorized) creature adventure, that he will look out for his little brother and keep him safe. Always.
Here’s Martin hugging a pony to brighten your day~!
Happy birthday to Martin! It seems fitting that after going through my screenshots from this past year and pulling out the ten that seemed the most quintessentially Martin, the result basically adds up to: joy + love. Love for life, so much love for all the creatures. And I could probably do at least a dozen separate photosets just about his love for his brother and friends. Is this what they mean when they say “a heart as big as all outdoors”? I think maybe it is. ♥
thinking about my fic in the shower:
trying to actually write my fic:
Um, yes, I’m in this photo and I don’t like it?
Oh, no, this is waaaay too accurate. 😂😂😂
The moment where Chris realizes that the CPS may ahve the opossum’s playing dead instinct is such a great, and lowkey feelsy, moment. You can tell when the thought that this voukd affect Martin hits him, and it hits him hard. It starts as just worry but when Aviva confirms that the suit should have all the opossum features, you csn ser the fear in Chris’ expression as he grabs Aviva and declares that they find Martin. It’s not as common to see Chris worry about his big brother, or at least it’s usually the other way around, but when it happens? Ah, it makes me happy/sad XD
Of course since this is a kids show, Martin is fine and only fell asleep instead of appearing dead. But still, Chris didn’t know that. Heck when he finds him, his line is “Brother, wake up!” with clear worry in his tone. Martin wakes up wnd is perfectly fine, so they get back to reacuing Jillybean. But it’s these small moments that I love so much~
Also if you wanna see a more dramatic alternate version of this episode playing with this plot point, read this fic. It’s great~!
Yessss, I adore all of those subtle little things that emphasize just how much they mean to each other. Bro feels forever!
(And thanks for the shout-out, btw. That fic was so much fun to write! 😊)
From the Arctic to the Amazon And everywhere in between, Birthday wishes ring For our favorite guy in green!
Happy birthday, Chris!!!
Haha, you're close. It was actually his arm. :D
(Also, Martin has never completely gotten over it)
The way Martin looks at Chris in the Amazon special makes me cry tbh ;-;
Ahhhh, these are so sweet! Those little brotherly moments are among my favorite things ever.
Hi there, I was wondering if I could ask you a quick question? I was wondering what your opinion on Jimmy Z is because he is my favorite character next to Martin and Chris and I wonder what you think about him.
Hello! Thanks for the ask! I love Jimmy, and I think he’s a really underrated character. For one thing, he’s exceptionally good at what he does. An aircraft like the Tortuga has got to be a challenge to maneuver, but he manages to pilot it smoothly wherever the team needs to go, even when he has to dodge trees or other obstacles. And when the going gets really tough, so does our Jimmy. Aside from full-on natural disasters like a tornado or a rogue wave, he’s basically unbeatable when emergency maneuvers or landings are called for.
And flying a turtle ship is far from being his only talent. It’s easy to focus on his fondness for eating and gaming, but let’s not forget that he’s actually a fantastic baker, and he doesn’t just play video games – he designs and programs them as well.
Most importantly, though, Jimmy has some sterling qualities that I think go largely unrecognized. He has a tendency to get frightened or anxious, and his reactions in those situations are often comical, but I think the fact that he is willing to be part of the WK team despite finding many aspects of their work at least somewhat terrifying shows a tremendous amount of courage and loyalty. Taking this emotional context into account, his grace under pressure in the cockpit is all the more impressive, and the times when he pushes through his fear for the sake of the team become downright heroic.
Another rare and admirable aspect of Jimmy’s character is how comfortable he is in his own skin. He understands himself and his own needs, and never tries to be anyone other than who he is, despite being surrounded by people whose personalities are very different. At the same time, he recognizes the importance of personal growth and so is willing to stretch himself from time to time (such as allowing the brothers and their otter friend to give him swimming lessons).
All in all, I think Jimmy is a great character and a huge asset to the WK team!
(Also, he is a precious bby. )
Protective Big Brother Martin Part II
Okay, this is seriously adorable.
I love the “Vigilante” artwork that you posted, and I’m very intrigued by your Wild Kratts medieval AU! Can you tell me more??
Sorry it’s taken me so long to answer this– the holidays have kept me very busy!First of all, let me just say that I’m so happy you’re interested! I kind of see you as a Wild Kratts fandom mom so I’m all “😱😄💖🌸” right now. 😂
No I don’t get asks much why do you ask
Anyhoozle, the AU. This is going to get a little long– sorry about that. It actually started with a different medieval AU, which I made art for here. Later, I was chatting with my friend @maxpanzer about it, and she suggested a different storyline based off of the song “Ready As I’ll Ever Be” from Tangled the Series.
Yep. That’s how it started. 😂😂😂
So, the idea here is that Donita is queen over a smallish country/fiefdom/whatever, and not a very good one (although that’s a no-brainer, I suppose). When Chris and Martin were very young, they lost their parents in a disease outbreak. A few years afterward, the two brothers lose each other in a fire in their village– a fire that Donita started for a construction project, but got out of control. Both of the brothers think that the other is dead, but they react in very different ways.
Martin, having had a carpentry apprenticeship before the accident happened, continues said apprenticeship, although he hardly knows how to go on. He’s lost his little brother– his best friend, who he promised his parents he’d protect. He’s completely alone in the world, and he doesn’t know what to do anymore. He keeps on, however, as much as he wants for everything to just end. He never returns to the village he and Chris lived in, though– he can’t bear to remind himself of the accident. He wants to forget it all (not Chris, of course. Just the accident).
He chooses to travel around, never staying in one place for very long. He helps people rebuild their homes and lives, and constructs homes for animals to keep them safe. He helps everyone he can along the way.
Chris’s life after the accident is drastically different. He, too, is completely alone, but he doesn’t have the stability and security of an apprenticeship and is too young to get one. He wanders about, searching for help from someone, anyone. As time goes on, he falls in with the worst kinds of people, who teach him to fight and to hate. In such an environment, and with such a young, impressionable mind, his grief and anger fester, twisting into something darker, uglier. He becomes hell-bent on revenge, building a rock-hard shell around his broken heart. After all, what does he have left to live for?
(Obviously Chris still has a pure heart beneath all the hatred and desperation, and he and Martin will find each other again at some point. But not until they’ve had some angst. 😂 We haven’t figured out exactly how things work out just yet, but there’s a lot more art of this AU in the works. ;D)
Ooh, this all sounds fascinating (not to mention deliciously angsty)! Thanks so much for the detailed response! I'd love to see more, whether it be written or drawn, as you keep developing the universe and storyline.
(Corresponding apologies from my end for holiday-related delays. And fandom mom, hmm? I'll take it. 😄)
