Send “Oops” for your muse to catch mine in just a towel.

"Ah, shit, Bobbi!" Clint tried to pull the towel up around his waist, barely catching it before it fell to the ground. "Jesus, you scared me, don't do that." Once his towel was secured, he reached over and put his hearing aids in before looking to his partner. "What'd you need? Help with training your recruits? 'cause I just wrapped up with mine."

‘what keeps you up at night?’

Avatar

Clint took a second. And then took a breath as he stared out over the city skyline. It was beautiful out here at night, sitting on the rooftop with his best friend and a beer.

"Never being enough." He took a drink. And then another breath. "I'm good at what I do. Hell, I'm fuckin' great at what I do. But at the end of the day, it's just a bow and arrow, y'kno? I can stop a robbery. I can save people from burning buildings. But I'm still a guy who won't really matter when the world is truly ending. Not unless I've got like the Death Star codes with a USB arrow that I shoot through the tiniest keyhole in the universe."

And Clint looked at Kara for a long moment and then back to the city. "I know I'm a perfect shot, but a perfect shot can't stop an alien invasion or shit like that. That's what you're good for." And upon realizing how that sounded, he adjusted quickly with a blush and a rushed, "And like, y'kno, always being there for me and stuff too, I mean."

"I thought you were getting your own room," Clint said with a huff as he dropped his suitcase on the floor of the hotel room. "When we talked, I said I'd get my room."

It had only been a week since they'd split, so the idea of even seeing each other at this wedding was about as bad as a bullet in Clint's fucking brain, but now there was only one room with only one bed. Miscommunication was one of the reasons they'd split, and yeah, this was probably Clint's fault, but also: Nat and Steve hadn't gotten a big enough block of hotel rooms for a sudden breakup.

With another huff, Clint added, "I'll just have them bring up a cot or something, I don't know. Just... you take the bed, Amelia." Mia. It almost rolled off his tongue like a natural thing. But it wasn't. And he had to bite it back with a horrible gut feeling that he may never call her that again.

[text] The truth is I’m not over you.

Bobbi’s breath caught in her threat as she read the words, her mind whirling. She checked the time first and seeing that it was early in the day, with slightly shaky hands (and she’d never admit it to anyone), she typed out a reply. [text] What?

Avatar

He’d already pulled one boot on before seeing that last text and found himself dropping the second boot. It bounced and hit the front door of his new apartment.

Clint leaned against the door and took a long breath. In and out, like his therapist had said. In and out.

[text] you free now?

She’d refused to put her phone down since the last text she’d sent, so when the newest message came in, she saw it right away. Who would’ve thought that three little words would have her heart thundering in her chest like she’d run a marathon? With a shaky finger, Bobbi hovered over the video call option before pressing it and setting her phone up against a pillow, smoothing her hair down and jiggling her leg as she waited for him to pick up. “Come on, come on,” she muttered to herself.

Clint tried to get his scarf off and finished putting his boots on, actually. There was something a bit cathartic about focusing on just tying the laces. And it was a good excuse to stall.

But he moved to sit at the kitchen table, bracing the phone against an empty coffee mug before answering the call. “Hey, B,” he said softly, feeling unsure of his own voice after not having hardly spoken to anyone in days. Clint swallowed hard as he looked at Bobbi; she seemed stressed, maybe as stressed as he felt. “You look good,” he remarked with a half-smile, all his feelings for his ex-wife flooding back.

The moment she saw his face, butterflies started fluttering in her stomach, making her feel like she was a teenager again. He’d usually had that effect on her. She took a few seconds to look him over; he looked as exhausted as she felt. There was an insidious part inside of her that whispered And it’s all your fault.

Hey, sport,“ she replied, pointedly ignoring how out of breath he seemed to be. “And don’t lie to me, I look like hell, but I appreciate the attempt at a compliment. Bluntly speaking, I’ve had far better days than the last few, and worse ones as well. I’ll be okay. Thank you, though. You don’t sound the greatest, you all right?”

That was a hard question, especially as the answer needed honesty. Clint bit his lower lip for a second before cracking just the faintest hint of a smile and almost joking, “Just… divorce is hard?”

He ran a hand through his hair and swallowed hard. “I miss you.”

Bobbi could’ve sworn she heard his voice crack when he responded, which made her heart break. As if that wasn’t enough, now his hair was mussed in that adorable way that it was most days, and her hands ached to smooth it back, to play with it. “Divorce IS actually hard, yeah. At, uh…at least for me it is, anyway.”

She closed her eyes tightly as she took a breath, trying to calm herself down. “I miss you too. A lot. It’d be easier if I didn’t, but yeah. This…goddammit, this sucks,” she whispered, feeling tears prick at her eyes.

He could see the way the light caught at just the corner of her eyes, and everything inside him melted like chocolate left in a hot car. Guilt. Pain. A certain kind of loss that was indescribable.

“It hurts to- to lose your best friend, especially when it’s behind, like, a wall of paperwork.” He tried a smile that only faltered shakily after a moment. “There’s half of my world that just feels like it was apocalyptically fucking shattered, and it’s you.” Clint tilted his head to watch her, feeling like she was right there with him, even if she was miles and miles and miles away. “It was easier when... when I was angry and when we were yelling. Now it’s- it’s just quiet?”

Like when the dust settles after the nuke’s dropped. Knowing the world is over even though it’s not over yet.

Send “ ♛ reverse” for my muse finding yours pregnant and in labor. [maybe a new AU, where Clint is a drifter or they did break-up?]

Avatar

The woman on the other side of the hospital lobby looked familiar, but Clint couldn’t put a name to her. She looked heavily pregnant and nervous beyond all hell. Maybe even in labor? It didn’t look like anyone was with her, and that didn’t make any sense. She was beautiful. Why would she ever be alone?

Clint was waiting to get looked at after getting caught up in another bar brawl. Half his face was practically purple, and his nose was definitely broken. That much was clear.

As he looked at her again through a mostly swollen eye, he thought he knew why he recognized her. He’d been on top of her for a night. And under her. Most certainly in her. But her name had been lost to time itself.

Against his better judgment, Clint hauled his sore, aching ass out of the chair and made his way over to her. God, this would be awkward if she recognized him. “I’d ask if you need help,” he said slowly, “but I think that answer’s pretty clear if you’re here. But, uh, need some company?”

Avatar
@but-boomerang-arrows:  He opened his mouth and gaped a bit at the woman. Trying to avoid the obvious question, and not wanting to admit that he didn’t remember her, Clint sat just a seat away, leaving her some space. He took a deep breath and said, “Well, I thought the face would give that much away.” Chuckling at his own joke, he knew it was better to swallow his pride and admit the truth: “I’m sorry, I’m not sure that I know you. Or at least I don’t remember…?”

“…” Amelia sighed heavily, frowning. It was hard not to look disappointed or hurt by Clint not recognizing her. Granted, it was only a week they spent together, but Amelia thought it was…well, that it was special. “Don’t… Don’t worry about it, Clint. I’m nobody,” she lied, glancing away from him to her swollen belly, lightly rubbing it, wondering when Nat was going to get here and save her from this awkward situation. She did not want to give birth alone!

So she did know him. Fuck. And the fact that she knew his name meant that it... it was probably more than a quick meet and greet in a bar.

“Well, you’re not nobody. Everybody’s somebody.” He sat down a chair away, making sure she had space in case she wanted it. Clint took a breath and said, faster than usual, “Listen, I’m not a great person, and I’m, uh, tryin’ to own up to that more lately. So I’m sorry if- if I ghosted you or whatever stupid shit I did. I do remember, um, seeing you naked, so I know at least we were involved somehow.”

He sighed and looked between her face and her belly for a moment, barely able to see her through his black and blue eye. “If I can, I’d like to make it up to you. Even if it’s just being able to sit here and, y’kno, be here for you.”

Avatar

"What is Going On Here?"

Clint immediately felt awkward in her apartment, very quickly coming to the realization that this was not his apartment and sleeping naked on the couch was not acceptable if he wasn’t in his own place. “Sorry,” he mumbled, still buzzed. “Wrong place, apparently.” He stood up and started to pull his pants on. “I think I live the next floor up and just… stairs are hard when you’re not sober, y’kno?” Beth let the baseball bat she held lower. Now that she looked at him, she recognized her neighbor. “Yeah, you live right above me. How did you get inside?” She very clearly remembered locking her door as always. “You’re drunk and you managed to get inside?” @but-boomerang-arrows

Jacket and boots and hat removed, Clint padded into the bedroom with a plastic bag full of styrofoam containers. “Pancakes, bacon, sausage. Eggs never travel well, so hope it’s okay that I didn’t get any.” He handed her one of the containers and then a set of plastic utensils that had been within the bag.

“Nothing special,” he said softly, focusing on his food, trying to quell the battle that raged in his chest. “How was your nap? Sleepin’ okay in my bed?”

“That’s fine. Eggs have to be eaten immediately where they are served, in my mind,” she hummed. “Bacon and pancakes are perfect, thanks Clint.” For a moment she settled back and began eating. She hadn’t really realized how hungry she was until she had smelled the food. “Yeah, slept okay. I think I was just exhausted. Not a mornin’ person in any way. Sorry, I probably didn’t leave room for you to lay down. Did you want to?”

“No, no, I’m good,” he said, perched on the edge of the bed as he ate his own breakfast. “You don’t, uh, have work today, do you? ‘cause I wanted to make sure to take care of you after last night, so I picked up ice cream and a very unsexy movie from Redbox.” He nodded towards the bedroom door. “Had to put the ice cream away, obviously.”

Clint felt… committed. He’d worn this woman down, used her, made her his own in ways that most men likely never would… And now he wanted to make sure she knew how appreciative he was.

For sex. Only for sex. Obviously.

“But, uh, I definitely wanna do stuff like last night again. And this morning, too. When you’re ready, of course, but it’s… you’re a good partner, Beth.”

“I’m off today and tomorrow. I can be lazy,” she chuckled. It was clear that Clint as a bit on edge, though she didn’t really know why. Was he just tired? Sipping her coffee, she studied him. Maybe he just wanted to relax too.

“A movie and ice cream sounds perfect. And I had fun. We can… we can definitely do that again, any of it.” Slowly she moved, scooting to sit up more against the pillows, wincing a little. She was sore in the best possible way. Each movement reminded her of what all they had shared.

“You sure it was okay? That I was okay? I wanna know that… that you had fun too.”

Clint nodded enthusiastically, even with a mouthful of pancake and egg. His eyes were bright and wide as he did manage to swallow half the food and say, “Yes! Yes, absolutely, you were perfect, I’d do it again right now if I could,” he said, bits of food being sprayed every few words.

He took a second and wiped his face with a blanket and said, a little more composed, “Beth, for that kind of sex, for any kind of sex with you, really, I’d worship you forever, okay? Please don’t ever second guess yourself like that, you’re fun to be around and very, very fun to fuck, okay?” Yeah, it probably didn’t sound great out loud, but he knew he had to find a way to say how much he appreciated her without... without saying any of what he was really feeling. That he felt anything, really.

Apartment Romance

Harley Morrisian, age 30. When his husband, Jack, was killed in a sudden car crash, he left Harley with their two year old son, Jesse. Harley loved the boy, and privided everything for him, but without Jack’s income, he had to move them into a new apartment building in a new city. He’d applied for and gotten two jobs, one working at Burger King and one working at a gas station, both jobs giving him very little time at home. He could barely afford rent, and he mostly fed Jesse leftovers from Burger King, not eating much himself, providing everything for his son. He had no idea how to be a parent, but he was doing his best. Which was why he was holding a sniffling Jesse in his arms as he knocked on yet another neighbor’s door. He was dressed in his Burger King uniform, almost about to be late, praying the neighbor opened the door.

Clint was about to place his hand on Harley’s back until he turned around. “Hey, Harls, I heard you in the- in the bathroom,” he said, rubbing an eye. He was barely awake, Harley was usually up first in the morning while Clint got up later to tend to the building and Jesse.

He leaned on the open fridge door and looked worriedly to his boyfriend. “You okay, baby? Food poisoning or somethin’?”

“Morning Clint. Sorry i woke you up.” Harley set some eggs on the counter and grabbed bacon and bread before closing the fridge. He turned to his boyfriend and kissed his cheek. “I feel fine love. Go get some more sleep.”

He started cooking, though he himself was puzzled by why he had gotten sick. Usually he had a very strong immune system, never even really getting a cold.

Clint headed back towards the bedroom for a moment before pausing and turning back around in the kitchen doorway. He rapped his knuckles on the doorframe in thought for a moment before saying, “Harl, maybe you should get checked out. You’ve been... y’kno, you’ve been workin’ hard and were hurt when...” He didn’t want to bring it up more than he had to.

“Listen if you can just maybe schedule somethin’ a local clinic or whatever and just make sure everything’s alright, it’d make me feel better.” He forced just a little smile, hoping to encourage Harley.
