Autistic Parenting

@autistic-parenting

Parent to a 12 year old boy. I am transmasc, he/they pronouns. I am not an authority on autism, nor parenting. I have no accredidations, nor do I have a degree. I will answer questions as best as I can, and love to try to help! I will offer support, advice, etc!

I don't think anyone titles posts anymore, lmfao

One of the weirdest thing about hanging out with other trans people and meeting them and talking is how often they're like "yeah I'm on the spectrum."

The Theys and Thems and Zes and Zirs are a little Gender Wonky and it's actually really comforting to me. I'm not the weird one out of these two groups because I belong to both. It's nice.

So, it's been a while.

Literally like 4 years. A few things that have updated in my life:

I figured out I was transmasc. Kind of neat, so, good thing I named this autistic *parenting* and not autistic *mothering.*

My son is turning 12 this month. Big boy! He now speaks full sentences and sasses me like...an insane amount. He made fun of my height??? Like sir, I birthed you, have some respect!

I got into D&D like hardcore. It's taken over my life.

I also got into the singer MIKA so much that I was in the .0001% of listeners on Spotify. I feel like I should get a medal or a plaque or something. Or maybe a signed card?

I turned 30. Heading to 32 now.

I have no idea what the temperament of this site is anymore. And since the posts don't contain dates, I have no idea if the people I follow are even still active.

Well, I guess interact with this if you see it? I might resume this thing, I'll see.

PLEASE REBLOG THIS WARNING

HEY GUYS

The new Venom movie has a scene with intense flashing lights (the lab entry scene) and I received no warnings and had to leave (just for that scene) as I am epileptic!!! PLEASE share this since I’ve seen NO warnings being shared and this is very important and can prevent people from having seizures etc during the film.

Help Carrie attain life saving surgery before it’s too late!

Carrie is almost half way to her goal to get the £100k she needs for life saving surgery, but if she doesn’t reach her goal by September 1st then her surgery will be cancelled, and given the extremity of her condition it’s likely she’ll die before it can be re-arranged.

If you’re able to help financially, then you can do so at her GoFundMe. But if you don’t have money to spare there’s still a lot you can do to help prevent Carrie dying from an easily preventable death.

Reblog this post! Obvious and easy but for some reason posts I’ve made for Carrie seem to have much less luck than any other donation posts I’ve ever made.

If you play Fallout 4, then you can help with an extra effort that is being made on Tuesday the 14th. Carrie’s Fund is organising a Fallout 4 Flash Mob with the hope of spreading awareness and also getting the attention of Bethesda. Disabled and chronically ill folks are a huge customer base for games companies, and Carrie’s Fund is hoping that Bethesda might help advertise their need or help directly.

Do fund raisers of your own! I know that’s a lot to ask but Carrie’s wife is essentially unable to spend any time campaigning now as Carrie’s condition deteriorates and her care needs become more complex. (If you do raise a substantial sum then please contact the campaign for the best way to get the money to them - they lose a portion to fees if it’s done through GoFundMe). Her situation is desperate and this is her last chance.

Please, please reblog this.

Posts for Carrie seem to do badly and she is running out of time.

If you’re able, please donate or reblog. She has lost an incredible amount of functionality in just a few more months and is very literally on death’s door. If you can share on other social media, that would be amazing, too. At times, I work myself sick with anxiousness because I think she won’t make it, but I have seen strangers on the internet achieve incredible things. Please, please help.

We are over the halfway point! Please, please keep this going! Time is running out and without this surgery she WILL die.

THIS is how you parent. This woman’s daughter is lucky to have a mother who’s so supportive and understanding, and willing to go out of her way to encourage her passions. Sorry, I’m actually crying, that’s how much I love this.

I was writing a book at ten. Still autistic.

Can any other autistic people relate to this? When someone asks me an open-ended question about something I’m interested in and knowledgeable about, I don’t know how to infodump - it’s like all the information is there but I don’t know how to organize it or where to start, so I end up not being able to answer at all. Anyone else?

I’m looking for tips from other autistic women who have experienced pregnancy. My partner and I are planning to conceive sometime during the upcoming year, and I’m wondering what to expect in terms of pregnancy and sensory issues, emotional issues, coping strategies, etc. Does anyone have any advice?

I’m going to open this up to followers as I don’t believe anyone here has experienced pregnancy

Apologies

Gosh, I’m in the same boat. I’m 18 (ish?) weeks along and it’s been interesting. My skin has been consistently hypersensitive and my grasp of social cues has been slightly delayed or I don’t catch them at all (I.e. someone will say something that’s a joke/sarcastic and I’ll start to respond as if they weren’t and it takes a moment before my pattern recognition kicks in to tell me that they weren’t being serious.) I’ve also been an extra happy, flappy, stimmy lil bean. All my emotions have had the intense effect of LISTEN TO ME I AM HERE RIGHT NOW PAY ATTENTION THIS IS ALL YOU’RE GOING TO FEEL EVEN IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’RE FEELING.

So. Yeah. I haven’t had any other symptoms really.

I was a mean pregnant person. I didnt like anyone except my son's dad, only he could touch me, only he could do anything right, etc. All my emotions and sensations were dialed up to 11. I felt every movement, every hiccup, every twitch.

I had to wear pads because just one little cough would make me leak pee.

I was so sick. Nothing tasted good, and I was ravenous the whole time.

I broke out, was sweaty all the time. My hair was oily despite me making sure I wasn't over or under doing keeping clean.

I'm not going to lie, I was miserable. I don't ever want to be pregnant again. I got huge(triggering my eating disorder) and was so emotional I ugly cried because I tossed a tissue into the garbage and missed. Like on the floor crying.

I love my kid with all my heart. But after all that, we nearly died during labor. He was an emergency c section.

So... I dont think my story is typical at all. I had a very bad experience with pregnancy, but got the most amazing person out of it.

I'm thinking about getting a formal diagnosis.

I've gotten so good at faking NT though.

My kid is experimenting with cursing

Of course I ask him to not curse, so he’s taken it upon himself to learn alternatives, which have resulted in “What the balls” and “Jesus heckin christ” and “What the plop”

I just

I can’t

I’m laughing

hahaha!

mine tends to go with adventure time slang and goofy twisty words we’ve made up in our time together :)

I want to find a way to make it possible to catch all the funny, cute and awesome things he says sometimes.

That's where mine got "what the plop" from!!

I’m so excited to be expecting a baby and I love kids but other than my husband I have like ZERO support system nearby and I have so much executive dysfunction some days and I still feel like I’m a teenager (?????? I’m not??) and I get so scared sometimes. I don’t know how I’m going to do it. How do you take care of a kid when your brain doesn’t work half the time?

Congrats, anon!

You might want to ask @autistic-parenting; I don’t have experience with raising children.

Wish I could help more. Good luck!
