Queer Things

@raavenb2619 / raavenb2619.tumblr.com

Asexual, aromantic, non-binary, they/them pronouns. Used to make queer memes but I don't really anymore. Not doing questioning/identity advice anymore, but you can look through #questioning, #questioning orientation, #questioning gender, and #questioning [some-identity].  Feather art in profile pic by @kimchigrowsontrees on instagram

it rules to be a transgender writer because writing trans themes is easy as fuck. it's easy as fuck dude. trans themes basically write themselves. change is the fundamental motor of storytelling. guess what else is all about change bitch

At the lesbian meetup, met a kind of transphobic woman. Started gearing up to get fighty and then realised... she wasn't an actual terf. She was just older, genuinely didn't know stuff, had heard some terf talking points in passing and had been made kind of anxious by them, but hadn't made it her entire personality. She was open to learning that trans women weren't actually roaming around coercing unwilling cis lesbians into sex, thanked me earnestly for giving her a basic explanation of what "non-binary" meant and truly seemed to be relaxing bit by bit the more she heard. Obviously I'm aware that I can't be sure I've given her a sufficient dose of anti-transphobe vaccine to immunise her permanently against the shit that's out there, but overall it made me hopeful. Most people just aren't dyed-in-the-wool bigots. People can be curious and relieved to hear the fearmongering they've been exposed to is untrue. Telling people this stuff isn't a lost cause.

Being alloaro and being attracted to someone is very silly bc it's like, I'm actually deeply satisfied with our close platonic bond and don't feel the need for anything "more" in a romantic sense. I will, however, be horny about it.

sick of other trans people looking like a deer in the headlights when reminded that amabs can be nb too. there are really still people in our own community who think a nonbinary person is like. a woman wearing jeans

i've had people treat me visibly different after hearing my voice or seeing my face as if i'm some sort of predator or interloper. this attitude towards amab trans people especially nonbinary people really paints a picture of what the lgbt community thinks of gender in general

You guys see an autistic character being headcanoned as trans and then start repeating transphobic and ableist ideas

“He’s too autistic to understand gender” hmmm you know I wonder what other group of people think autistic people are too dumb to understand gender and therefore don’t deserve bodily autonomy

“He can’t be transfems he’s too autistic to understand gender”

oh yeah sorry I forgot girls can’t have autism. That’s a boy thing. Can’t be a girl and have autism. This is how autism works.

So, my spouse has been exploring his gender lately; he also just built himself a new laptop. Today he told me that he in an attempt to process some genderfeels through metaphor, he made a post on a trans forum along the lines of: "I'm a lifelong Windows user and I think I'm pretty good at it. I want to find out what Linux has to offer but I'm afraid I wouldn't be any good at it. And how do you choose the right Linux distro, anyway? Do you have to try them all?"

The responses, he said, were a mix of useful advice about feeling out your gender and useful advice about choosing a Linux distro.

I love trans people so much

Spouse (still he/him for now) recently decided to pick out some more feminine glasses -- he was going for the librarian look, he said. He noted his pick was "subtle enough" he'd "probably" feel comfortable wearing them at work. Of course, he's been wearing his old glasses while waiting for the new ones to be ready.

Well, today these two things happened while he was at work:

  • his old glasses snapped in half at the nose bridge, and
  • he got a call that his new glasses were ready for pickup, days earlier than expected.

I don't usually read coincidences as signs, but,

Update: She really liked Linux

(Also, her name is Eve now)

“Where there’s no name for a problem, you can’t see a problem, and when you can’t see a problem, you pretty much can’t solve it.” - Kimberlé Crenshaw on intersectionality

To those who can’t seem to comprehend why transmascs are insisting on a word to describe their intersection of transphobia and misogyny (and conditionally anti-masculine sentiment)

Aspec men deserve much more respect and recognition in the aspec community than they receive. They often face a different form of aphobia specific to them ("men are naturally sexual they can't be ace" "all men are unromantic that's not unique") this rhetoric is spouted by many, even members of our own community and I hope for a day where that is no longer the case. As an ace and demiro woman (demigirl but that's beside the point) I want to encourage folks to take the time to give the aspec men in their lives support and to the aspec men reading, you are who you say you are no matter what people say and you deserve the world. I'm sorry for the ways in which toxic masculinity has harmed you. You are a valued member of the aspec community and the queer community as a whole. No ace or aro person is broken and neither are you. I'm sorry if anyone has ever told you otherwise.
