The next morning after a sleepless night they were back at hospital for the last procedure.  Ren asked Jason to wait outside.  He didn’t want to leave Ren alone, but he didn’t want to antagonize or upset her so he did as she asked.

As he waited he called Mom, telling her what happened.  She told him to give her a few days, and she would be there to help any way they needed.  “Thank you Mom,” he said softly.  

After it was over, and they brought Jason back, he looked into Ren’s eyes seeing a vacant empty stare.  He knew she was upset, but he couldn’t feel anything from her. Nothing at all.  

“There will be some bleeding and discharge for the next several days. Anything beyond that accompanied with severe cramping or extreme blood loss please contact my office,”  Dr. Abernathy said.  “I know you may not want to hear this right now, but you two should be able to start trying again, within a few weeks, whatever is comfortable for you.”  She glanced at Ren.

“We won’t be trying again.”  Ren remarked.  

Jason was shocked by her words.  “You don’t mean that Lauren, I know you don’t.”

“Yes I do, if it could result in this again.  My heart can’t take it. I could never go through this again.”  She said tears running down her cheeks.  

“Give it time,” Dr. Abernathy said to Jason after Ren walked out of the room.

A/N1: So, after I posted Chapter 9 of Intentions - in which Drake provides a summary of why he was delayed in returning to court for the start of the engagement tour - I got a request from @aussiegurl1234 and @lunaseasblog​ to write a bonus Drake POV chapter providing more details about what exacty happened while he was Stateside, and just what kind of grilling was he subjected to by Harper’s family on the plane ride down to Texas. Hopefully this chapter will satisfy your curiosity! 🤗

A/N2: I don’t normally split my chapters, but this one kinda took on a life of its own and will probably be approx. 15,000 words when finished (I am currently sitting at 7,000 words and Drake only just got to Bozeman 😅). Since that’s (a) quite long overall, and (b) pushing the limit of Tumblr’s maximum post length, I have decided to split the chapter into 3-4 parts (I won’t know exactly how many seperate posts will be required until I finish writing it). Also, this way, you’ll have slightly more regular updates instead of having to wait ages for the whole chapter to be done. And, in order to keep everything neat and tidy, I have decided to create a mini Masterlist for this chapter.

A/N: A huge shoutout to @karahalloway who agreed to let me steal her idea of how jurisdictional lines are drawn between the Royal Guard and the local PD that she came up with in her series (Un)Common Attraction. It solved a lot of potential problems for our intrepid vigilantes.

She sat on a boulder looking out over the water. The moonlight glistened and rippled across the surface. There was a slight breeze, so she pulled her coat closer and snuggled into for warmth.

She heard twigs breaking as he approached. She didn’t bother to turn around. There was only one person that it could possibly be.

“Lady Riley.”

“Fredrick. I told you, call me Riley.”

She could hear the smug victory in his voice when he said, “Of course. I guess you didn’t invite me out here to behave much like a lady.”

She closed her eyes. He sickened her. She drew in a steadying breath before turning to face him with a fake smile plastered on her face. “You’re alone, right? You didn’t tell anyone we were meeting?”

Soooo … hey lol It’s been a hot minute since I’ve written or posted anything (or just been around in general). Anyway, I came back to several messages asking about this chapter. I actually had 90% of it written back in October and just thought it was pure shit and gave up on it … actually, I gave up on writing altogether. Having some time this week, I opened up the doc, rewrote some things, deleted out some stuff and finally managed to finish it. It’s still not even close to what I wanted it to be, as it’s the end of this arc, but I’ve decided to just have fun writing again. If there’s anything Ive learned during my time away it’s that none of us will ever write the perfect story, or use the perfect words, or have the most compelling characters and it’s okay; I think I finally have accepted that. Just have fun doing it!

Jason’s boss drove him to Ren’s hospital as fast as he could with the weather.  

“Rain is  just melted snow and people are losing their minds, Lawson, I mean what the hell!!!”

“You said it brother.”  

Please let them be okay Jason thought in his head the whole way over to the hospital.

He walked into the room finding Ren sitting there in the bed in tears.

“Ren what happened?”

“I got nauseated and dizzy and fell down the stairs.  I should have just waited for the elevator, and I didn’t.”  

Jason pulled Ren to him hugging her.  “And i haven’t felt the baby kick since I fell, and i’m so scared.”  

“Hey we’re fighters so is our baby. We’re gonna all be just fine,” he said confidently.  He prayed for his sake he was right.  

“Dr. Abernathy is on her way right now, I’m her tech Julie.  She wanted to see if I could get some images of the baby in the meantime. Does that sound ok?”

Lauren and Jason nodded.  Ren lifted her scrub top to reveal her stomach.

“Those weren’t the ones you left the house in.”

“Ugh don’t even ask. A kid puked on me, I almost puked on the kid, it was an ordeal.”
