The Antics of Softboy Pillowman

@softboy-pillowman / softboy-pillowman.tumblr.com

This blog is dedicated to the fun adventures and conversations of Softboy Pillowman, a cuddly plush toy, and his fellow toy friends as they live in their owner's bedroom. (These characters are my own, and were originally used for my thesis project, The Adventures of Softboy Pillowman)

How to read the blog chronologically!

NOTE: Due to the way content and/or tagging fluctuated over the life of this blog, some posts may not show up in this chronological link. This is currently being worked on. Thank you for your patience!

ANOTHER NOTE: Currently this link only works for browser Tumblr, not the mobile app. This is also being worked on.

Longtime followers of this blog may remember that Dirk likes to rest on the coat hooks outside of Chris’s closet. It turns out that he never fell out of the habit, even as he began spending more time in his anthropomorphic form.

… huh. He doesn’t look like he’s sleeping well tonight. I wonder what he’s dreaming about?

If you’re wondering which obligation of mine is taking so much time away from making comics (or at least, which one I’m currently choosing to blame), then here’s a clue!

No, it’s not for this blog, but with all the work I’m putting into it, I really wish it were.

… also, no, I’m not actually using the cool desk and paper.

One time, Softboy suggested that the Chrisville Theater Society could perform new original work, and encouraged people to submit scripts for them to possibly use one day. It did not take long for him to regret this idea.

This week’s post is inspired by me learning that adjudication is harder than I thought.

Bonus points to anyone who can tell what existing work this piece is referencing.

A “fun” fact: In the early days of this blog, I was planning to incorporate more of what I called “the red clouds” or “the red lightning.” It was a manifestation of anxiety, fear, and dread that Softboy would need to battle through. Some of you may even remember the one comic where it was actually used. However, I chose to focus on more fun (or at least, less dread-filled) ideas and haven’t used it since.

Recently, I was in the mood to see if I could make a new version of the red lightning through Procreate. I wish I wasn’t.

Breaking news: Chrisville has finally established itself as an independent nation! This up-and-coming little country has got it all: laws, universal healthcare, mandatory theater society duty… what more could you want? True, they may not have anything to offer the global marketplace, but (most of) Chrisville’s residents still take pride in the fact that their home is so unique and wonderful. And totally not beholden to the laws or leaders of any other country. Not a single one.

They ARE still figuring out their exact system of leadership, though. Softboy isn’t really a monarch: he was democratically elected. However, the Chrisville residents started teasingly calling him “your majesty,” and they made a lil crown for him because he looks so darn cute, so he’s kind of also a king. Whatever he is, he calls the shots, and (almost) everyone is happy about it!

Before you ask, yes, there is an opposition party in Chrisville, and yes, it is just Dirk.

Nothing much to see here! Just a loyal lil office worker working hard to make sure this blog has at least a little fun art to share every week. Doesn’t he look productive?

This art was inspired by a very cool marketing campaign that basically doubled as performance art.
