I will never forget the day when I was drawing, in the front row, with full out colored pencils in one of my 7000 level graduate school courses. And my professor walked by, glanced down, said, “Nice artwork!” and kept lecturing. She knew. She knew it was how I focused on the course material. It was validating and made me feel comfortable, confident, and alert the entire semester.

Doodling is a simple activity that takes very little brain power for most people to do. One reason it happens is because they’re understimulated and the brain needs some sort of activity to focus on. Without something physical to do the brain will turn to it’s other tactic, daydreaming. An activity that regularly distracts their full attention.

So once again I am officially on Christmas break, so I decided to do a redo/spiritual sequel to the first Egobang drawing I ever posted (which was also Christmas-themed) to commemorate this! (the redo is on the right; original on the left)

When I drew the original piece it was back when I first joined Tumblr and was really getting into all the Egobang fics and fanart and stuff that people were posting. When I first learned what Egobang was it was before I joined and I was honestly one of those people who wasn’t big into this ship cuz it involved real people and one of them was married, but now… God, I ADORE it! I love the fics people write (especially the angsty stuff; anyone read Darkest Before Dawn by JennaLee? That shit messed me up), most of the fanart I’ve seen is ADORABLE, and I just love how generally pretty cool this section of the fandom is. I know real person shipping is kinda weird if you really think about it, but as long as the Grumps themselves are cool with it then I’m cool with it and I’m gonna keep supporting and drawing it! 

Speaking of the drawing, I really like it! I wanted to have an actual background in the redo as well as get rid of the multicolored blushing on Arin and Dan in the first drawing (which looking back now was so dumb oh god what was I thinking). I’ve been practicing drawing kissing all week and honestly I think it looks okay here!

Alex:  *walks in wearing a garish Christmas sweater adorned with jingle bells, along with a pair of fake reindeer antlers on his head*  Hey, man, what’s up?

Ryland:  The fuck are you wearing?

Alex:  Pretty great, huh?  This was, like, four bucks at Goodwill.

Ryland:  Alex?

Alex:  Yeah?

Ryland:  You’re Jewish.

Alex:  Well I may not celebrate Christmas, but you do!

Ryland:  No, I really don’t.

Alex:  And that’s exactly the problem!  Ryland, your lack of holiday spirit has been bringing the whole team down.  That’s why I’m going to make this your best Christmas ever!

Ryland:  Jesus Christ.

Alex:  That’s the spirit!
