still thinking about the last man. because why wouldn’t i be.

thinking about how sad john gets when rodney tells him he quit the program.

that line. “well, that doesn’t sound like you.” that line could be teasing. it could be john calling rodney out for absolutely quitting sometimes when things are hard. it could be john getting frustrated with rodney. but it’s not.

look at john’s face. he’s just so SAD for rodney. he believes in rodney So Much, in the fact that rodney Can and Will do anything for their little family (see: everything in the episode up until here. rodney’s sent himself 48,000 years into the future to help john save everyone!!!!!! and john just!!). but the fact that things were apparently so bad that rodney quit– that hurts john in the quietest, most painful of ways. that he couldn’t spare rodney this. that rodney had to face that failure alone.

AND the fact that rodney programmed holo rodney not to want to tell john about it in the first place. that rodney felt So Guilty. Such Deep Shame about quitting, that it translated to his cool holo program. because rodney Knows people count on him. and with no one left to count on him. with everyone dead. he quit. sorry, jennifer, this ep is a great example of how you absolutely do not bring out the best in rodney. his team does that. and only his team. he knows it too. at least he quit until he realized he could maybe still save john (and john could then save everyone). because john isn’t dead. yet.

i’ve been having Thoughts recently about how both John and Rodney (because they are parallels in so many ways) 100% fully measure their worth as people based on what they can offer to others. for John it’s often how he can die for them but for Rodney it’s his intelligence and resourcefulness and all that, and i think on some level he feels no one would even put up with him if he didn’t bring that to the table. so yeah that feeling of not having anyone counting on him, knowing that the only person left possibly counting on him is John who he’ll never see again in his own timeline but still working for the rest of his life just to get that…

I'll be upfront with my opinion, which mirrors my opinion in regards to my field: using AI will only hasten your own obsolescence. The point of fanfiction is not to crank out fics, but rather to enjoy the hobby and communities of writing and fandom.

To steal something I saw elsewhere: Why would I bother to read something nobody could be bothered to write?

i just imagine Sidon tried his damn hardest to heal so he can better help link by healing his wound but failed, but instead of trying to follow his sister's footsteps he decided to practice on his own abilities aka the water shield so Link doesn't have to get any wound to begin with :')

About the AO3 "No Guest Comments for a while" warning

If you're not following any of AO3's social media accounts you might be in the dark as to what kind of "spam comments" have engendered this banner at the top of the site:

These spam comments have been posted about a great deal on the AO3 subreddit for the past couple of days. Initially they comprised a bunch of guest (logged out users) bot comments that insulted authors by suggesting they were using AI and not writing their own fics. Some examples, from the subreddit:

But it then escalated to outright graphic porn images and gifs being posted in comments, again by logged out 'Guest' accounts. Obviously, I'm not going to give examples of those, but between these two bot infestations, AO3 has clearly decided to act and has temporarily closed the ability to post comments for users who are not logged in with an AO3 account.

Unfortunately, this means that genuine readers who don't have an AO3 account won't be able to leave comments on fics that they enjoy.

If you are a genuine reader who doesn't yet have an AO3 account, I strongly suggest getting yourself on the waiting list for one. More and more AO3 authors are now locking their fics down to registered users only - either due to these bot comments or concerns about AI scraping their work - which means you're probably missing out on a lot of great stuff.

Hopefully guest commenting will be enabled again at some point soon, but I suggest not waiting until then. Get yourself on that list.

I think the best thing about Amok Time is that it is canon that satisfying the Pon Farr is equivalent to marriage on Vulcan. Usually this is done with sex, and since T’Pring challenged the winner would have gotten to marry her via sex while the loser would have been dead…

but since Jim didn’t die, spock satisfied his Pon Farr with him, AND he did no frickle frackle with T’Pring, for all intents and purposes, Jim and Spock are canonically married by Vulcan law.

And idk I just picture that the next time T’Pau calls spock she’s just like “and how fares your husband” and spock is just like “hold up what husband.”

I love fics that have this premise where of the planet is a member of the Federation then the marriage is recognized by all Federation planets but translations are hard, so none of them are like an actual marriage until one day it is and they don’t know until months later when Pike calls and is in the middle of saying “Now, Mr. Spock—“ but then he’s like wait did you hyphenate, or did Jim? Or? And that’s how they find out they got married for real this time
