Make Thoughtful Cards Out of Paint Chips Using Paint Names

I have been making cards, booklets, and posters out of paint chips for years. What is original about my idea (and I’ve never seen it done by anyone else), is that I pay attention to the paint name on the chip.

All you need is a hole punch, scissors (if you want to cut the names into hearts for a card), and fasteners.

For 231 pages of DIY Valentine’s go here: truebluemeandyou.com/search/hearts

****For Kid friendly gifts just use kid friendly paint names, which are about 99% of paint names****

I have made cards with wine names, vacation themes, movie themes, and the list goes on and on. As I was picking up paint, I noticed that Home Depot had some great paint color names for Valentine’s Day and Galantine’s Day. All you need are free paint chips and cheap fasteners for the booklet. You can write on every page if you’d like, like the DIY Playing Card Valentine’s Day gift “52 Reasons I Love You” here.

These are the cards I used for my booklet:

  • Heart Breaker
  • BFF
  • Heart to Heart
  • Epiphany
  • Stolen Kiss
  • XOXO
  • Joie de Vivre
  • I Heart Potion
  • Lover’s Knot
  • Night Music
  • Love Poem
  • Lovebirds
  • I Pink I Can
  • Love at First Sight
  • Infatuation
  • Diva Glam
  • Kiss Goodnight
  • Magic Scent
  • Romantic Poetry
  • Secret Scent

DIY No Bake Turkish Mosaic Cake

This Turkish dessert has a prep time of 5 minutes, and only uses 5 ingredients. What holds it together is crushed cookies or wafers. The chocolate flavor comes from cocoa powder.

This is a quick and easy recipe for kids to help make as they can use their hands to mash all the ingredients together.

DIY 3 Ingredient Lip Scrub Recipe with Valentine’s Day Stickers

This would make such a quick and cheap gift for Valentine’s Day or stocking stuffers at holiday time.

scissorsandthread:

It’s almost Valentine’s Day so I thought I would share with y’all one of my favourite beauty recipes - a moisturising lip scrub! This scrub is very similar to a scrub you will find at a very popular natural soap company - but at a fraction of the cost! Plus because I can’t give you all a present individually, I’m going to gift you some very cute Valentine’s Day stickers - perfect for decorating your scrub pots (just print them on sticker paper and go crazy!)

INGREDIENTS:

- 3tbs of castor sugar (truebluemeandyou: "Caster sugar" is a superfine sugar - between granulated and powdered sugar. It’s also called sbaker’s sugar, or bar sugar. You can use regular sugar in this recipe) - 1 1/2 tbs carrier oil - a few drops of flavour oil - food colouring

TOOLS: - mixing bowl - spoon - little tubs to hold your balm. These are 10g screw top jars found at the craft store.

A few notes: CARRIER OILS: Some good carrier oils to use for this project are: Sweet Almond Oil, Sunflower Oil, Olive Oil, Jojoba Oil or Macadamia Oil. It’s up to you and your budget - I love Sweet Almond Oil because it makes my lips silky smooth. Jojoba is used in a lot of beauty products but can be quite expensive, especially if you’re wanting to make this on the cheap!

FLAVOUR OILS: I bought my flavour oils from the local craft store because they have an excellent range - look in the cake making section! Alternatively you can look in the baking section of your grocery store. Alternatively, you can order flavour oils from places like Bramble Berry who have a huge range. If you’re going to colour your scrub, only use a very small amount of food colouring as you don’t want to stain your lips. I used a lip safe colour from a beauty & soap store. If you’re not sure, then you can leave it out to be on the safe side!

OK, on to the recipe!

Pour your sugar, oil, flavour oil and colouring (optional) in to your bowl.

Start stirring people! Please take note of my very cute spoon.

And… hey presto, you have a scrub! Yep, it’s that easy!

Spoon your scrub in to your little jars. I wrapped washi tape around mine and stuck some of my Valentine’s stickers on the top:

And that’s it! I hope you enjoyed this DIY. If you have any questions please ask!

Make your cupcake batter according to directions on the box of the cake mix (or homemade recipe). Place the cupcake liners in your cupcake tin. Fill the liners about 2/3 full. Do not overfill or it will lose the heart shape while baking. After filling the liners, place a marble between the liner and the pan. Your cupcake will take on the shape of a heart. Bake according to directions on the cake mix box.

DIY Inspiration Quote or Poem Shell Collage Art

I adore these art pieces from A Mermaid’s Tale’s store! Match items from nature, like shells and rocks, with quotes or words that have meaning to you or loved ones. This would make such a spectacular gift!

Christine, from A Mermaid’s Tale, picked a quote from Maggie Barratt’s At the water’s edge:

Spending summers by the sea, we learn to live by the tide instead of the clock. We decorate our tables and ledges with beach treasures and live well in sparsely furnished cottages, rich in spirit and happy to have no distractions but the sea outside the window; and each time we look out to sea, we rest a little deeper, grow a little stronger, sleep a little more soundly.

A Mermaid’s Tale posted another Shell Art Collage in fall of 2020 from her store here.

I posted about these Rock Collages by mixed media artist Cori Kindred here. On my FB page I even suggested doing a “speciman” type of collection using a chewed pencil (writer’s block?) and mundane items to capture someones personality.

3 Ingredient Flourless Fluffernutter Cookies

Don’t have marshmallow cream? From Hip2Save:

If you have marshmallows, you can combine them with light corn syrup to make your own marshmallow creme, according to SpoonUniversity.com.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1 cup marshmallow cream
  • 1 large egg

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prep a sheet pan with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Use a fork to mix together peanut butter and egg.
  3. Gently fold in marshmallow cream so that you can still see streaks of marshmallow.
  4. Scoop cookie dough onto pan using small or medium sized cookie scoop. Bake for about 11-13 minutes, until slightly browned. Makes about 12 large cookies. Enjoy!

Here’s a video showing how easy these cookies are to make:

DIY Faux Batik Fabric Using Flour

You can also use PVA glue to make faux batik fabric, but using a paste of flour and water is so much cheaper

All you need to make Faux Batik Fabric is:

  • white cotton fabric
  • fabric paints OR acrylic paints with fabric medium
  • plain flour
  • squeeze bottle

This is an easy DIY where supervised where kids could make their own abstract fabric.

How to Make Mason Jar Ice Cream

This recipe is by Amelia Nierenberg for the New York Times. It is so easy that kids could make it.

From the NYTs: Basic Mason Jar Ice Cream

Ingredients

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 ½ tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt

A 16 oz Mason jar, of course. Yield: About three servings.

Steps

1. Pour the cream, sugar, vanilla and salt into the jar, and screw on the lid tightly.

2. Shake vigorously, until the cream thickens and almost doubles in size, which should take about five minutes. You’ll know you’re done when the mixture doubles in volume and is about the consistency of brownie batter.

3. Freeze for at least 3 hours. Then eat. You’re welcome.

Variations

Berry Ice Cream. If you want the flavor mixed-in, blend ½ cup of fresh berries and add it to the mixture before you freeze it. (You can also cheat: a tablespoon of jam will work.) If you prefer chunks, cut up the berries. Voilà.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream. Add 1 teaspoon of peanut butter to the mixture and shake. If you want the chocolate blended in, squeeze in 1 teaspoon of syrup. But if you’re going for a marbled effect, swirl in the syrup at the end and give your mixture a quick stir with a spoon.

Earl Grey Tea Ice Cream. Add 1 teaspoon each of lemon juice and honey. To infuse the tea flavor, take ½ cup of the cream. Heat it, and steep two bags of Earl Grey tea. Remove them. When the cream cools, add it to the jar and shake.

Chunky Chocolate and Nut Ice Cream. The nuts are easy: Add 1 tablespoon of whatever kind of nuts you choose. (Pecans are buttery and yummy. Just saying.) Add chocolate pieces. A note: Mini-chips will work better than chunks. You’re only making a little bit, after all.

Rosemary Olive Oil Ice Cream. Whoa, right? Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil, which will make the ice cream extra creamy. As with the Earl Grey version, heat up half the cream and add four sprigs of fresh rosemary. Strain, cool, add, shake, freeze and eat.

The possibilities are endless. For caramel ice cream, just chop candies into the mix. For banana, blend it first. Coconut is a no-brainer, but make sure the pieces are small and fine. (A pinch of salt on top brings out the flavors.) It will be delicious. It’s ice cream, after all.

DIY Cheap and Easy Beaded Daisy Chain Bracelet

I have seen a lot of cheap beaded spring/summer jewelry (seed beads, pony beads, plastic beads, alphabet beads) being sold for high prices.

This is the really easy Beaded Daisy Chain Bracelet, posted in late April 2020, with a sliding knot closure from Honestly WTF below.

Who What Wear calls it “crafty jewelry” or jewelry you’d make at camp. I’ve posted some of their retail picks at the very bottom. Here’s what they say about this trend here:

Consisting of mismatched colorful beads, charms, flowers, letters, and more, this jewelry trend can be defined as many things, but my favorite descriptor is nostalgic.

Here are 4 of the picks from Who What Wear below.
