The mainstream media’s “bothsidesism” is slowly legitimizing the neofascism of the Republican Party.

It seems to me that true journalistic integrity would involve telling the truth about one of the “sides,” when it represents a neofascist movement that could literally destroy our democratic institutions.

It's not that they really think the outright fascist stuff will work, it's that they want to push the Overton Window so far to the right that things like bringing back child labor, outlawing drag, and making wearing clothes that don't fit your gender assigned at birth a child sex crime seem reasonable by comparison to the extremes. The worst part of this is that it's working.

when i was a freshman in college i wanted to dress up for halloween because i thought surely college students would have the spirit. so i elected to put a whole entire Skull Kid from legend of zelda majora’s mask cosplay together and wear that fucking ensemble to college on halloween.

i step on campus and realize immediately that not one other person is dressed up. not so much as a cat ear headband. so imagine this fucking dude sitting in a class of otherwise normally dressed people looking like this. that was me. this was my 9/11

What does it mean to be a “Real American” these days because I keep hearing that term and it always seems to be referencing some absolute fkn garbage humans so you can keep it.

I am amazed at how many people out there simply don’t give a fcuk about masks or social distancing. This is a “Real American” disease, born out of selfishness, and a cultivated ignorance which deliberately ignores the advice of experts. I hear from a friend in the Marianas Islands that COVID-19 cases in Guam are spiking. It is not due to the locals (Chamorros and Carolinians, who are also US Citizens), who are obediently following pandemic protocol, but from the Real Americans (from the 50 States, that is), who are doing whatever they damn well please regardless of the Pandemic.

“Real Americans” are citizens of a virtual “Shithole Nation”. Unfortunately the rest of us (Fake American?) citizens are forced to cohabit our country with them. I want a divorce.

Tell those tantrum throwing children that they actually have to take a shred of responsibility for maintaining some semblance of order in the country they love to shit on. God forbid these people have to do lift a finger to help their country and not just wipe the cheeto dust off their face.

If that was the case, they would have stopped supporting him when the tax cuts for the rich happened. Or when deregulation of numerous services lead my, and many other, towns to begin having contaminated tap water. Or when white supremacist shooting and violence raised. I could go kn for quite a while here. It's a cult, plain and simple, and doesnt rely on logic or evidence

This has happened to me before when I was in college at a frat party. This girl comes squeezing herself in between me and my friend and throws her arms around me. “Amanda, I am so glad you decided to come!” I was so confused and just figured she was drunk and mistaked me for someone else, until I saw the panic on her face. She leaned close and whispered that a guy was following her, was certain that he had put something in her drink and if I would please play along. I looked behind her and sure enough, some creep was watching her like a hawk. We invited her to hang out with us the rest of the night and even waited until her ride showed up just to make sure she was safe. Always look out for each other!

If you ever feel scared like this just come up to me like we have been friends since kindergarten, call me any name u can come up with ill play along.

Stay together, stay safe

Perfect advice. I’m reblogging this as a guy, because first of all, if you”re a guy : DON’T DO THAT. Don’t be that creep.

And if you’re a guy and you notice some creep is following or stalking a girl, and that she’s obviously uncomfortable or panicked, go ahead and say hi, long time no see, pretend to be her cousin, and tell her discretly you noticed there was a shady guy. Ask her if something’s wrong, if she feels unsafe, if she wants your help (very important - she may not trust you enough, no one could blame her, don’t take it personally). (and don’t you dare take advantage of the help you offered for a flirt opportunity, that would make you no better than the creep)

We can all stop “witnessing and do nothing”, and set an example.

Avatar
hapslock

Alternative option for a guy: if you feel safe doing so, go up to the creeper who’s following her and be like “hey WHAT’S UP bud do you like SPORTS? My favourite team is the redsox what’s YOURS my man? What you DRINKING dude that looks GOOD.” and be friendly and just loud enough to blow his cover. Draw attention to him and see what he does. He won’t feel as safe creeping if he knows people are looking at him, and maybe he’ll leave. It also means the woman won’t have to worry that you are *another* creeper she has to be wary of, and you may distract the bad dude enough to give her a chance to lose him.

man like. being lgbt kind of ruins time with relatives in a very specific way that cishets will never truly experience. like family time can be rough tm but theres a special brand of discomfort that lgbt people face and it’s kinda wild

Avatar
themauvesoul

It’s the specific feeling of “these people’s love is entirely conditional, and I know exactly what the conditions are, and one day I’m gonna have to bite the bullet and come out and none of these people will love me anymore”. It’s not a feeling cishet ppl experience for obvious reasons.

Even with family that Accepts You tm, theres always this level of “I can only talk about being gay so much before it gets Uncomfortable. I cant actually talk about dating bc someone will look like they ate a raw lemon whole eventually until I’m told I’m oversharing and then conversation will turn to Perfect Cousin with her Perfect Husband and When Are We Going To See Babies? Are they trying? How often? And just….its annoying that it still has to be Rough tm when u do come out and for the most part ur still loved an accepted, but u cant actually talk about it too much, even in the sense of Finding Someone or Boo Evil Politics bc ppl will STILL get visibly uncomfortable

Listen, my parents installed a lock on my door so I could lock everyone out of my room if I wanted to at sometime around 8 years old. They had a key of course for safety but they’ve never had to use it and they’ve never used it when they didn’t have to.

I was allowed full access to any books, movies, and internet I wanted fully informed about our family beliefs and practices but I was given no supervision once I reached about 13 because my parents trusted me to stick to the rules or not as I felt and come to them if there was anything that I had questions about.

As long as I said where I was going, who I was with, and when I was going to be back and then phone if anything changed I was allowed to do pretty much as I pleased from 13 onward.

I moved back in with my parents after university and the first conversation we had was my dad telling me that if I felt like they were treating me like a child to please tell them because they had no intention of doing so.

I still live with them and I’m comfortable here as an adult. When I eventually move out again, which I feel no rush to do because I feel respected and given more than enough elbow room, I will probably talk to them often if not everyday. Because they’ve always respected my privacy and my autonomy both physically and emotionally. If you want an independent and fictional child trusting them and giving them their space will do you many more favours than not.

meanwhile, my parents…

  • password protected my computer so i had to get permission every time i wanted to use it
  • put a passcode lock on our pantry so we couldn’t eat without permission
  • regularly checked our internet browsing history
  • shut off the internet at regular intervals, including when i needed it for university homework
  • did monthly checks of our bank statements and would confiscate money if they didn’t approve of our activities

in response, i went behind their backs and opened a new bank account, got a secret job, bought my own groceries, and used the wifi from the school across the street. they didn’t succeed in disciplining me. all they did was force me to distance myself from them.

your children are not your property. they are human beings, and they deserve basic human rights.

When I was 12 my dad went through my phone when I had just come to the conclusion that I liked girls and I got outed to him before I was ready. And after that they started taking my phone at night, and going through it all the time. Now I have a lot of freedom because they started to trust me, but I still don’t feel like I can open up to my parents especially my dad, and I’m incredibly sneaky and bc I’ve had time to practice.

Few years back once a certain public figure that was problematic for anyone of the nom-straight and/or intellectual persuasion came into the spotlight, I had been assaulted by one of his red shirt- ahem, red hats, and when I said this to my parents they laughed in my face and told me I probably deserved it. This should give you some insight into how... let's say problematic my childhood was.

You wake up one day with the ability to freeze time at will for as long as you want with no repercussions. What’s the first thing you do with your newfound powers?

take a nap

i would literally always freeze time to sleep that way i would never waste time sleeping again. also. ALSO. FUCK MATE. Not feeling like going to work? Freeze time and chill until you do. In a shitty situation that has you in danger? Freeze time and walk away to safety. its. so useful. I literally. dream about this ability.

please read this

there’s a jump scare video circulating all over the internet. it’s titled 1444 and the thumbnail is a man sitting on a couch holding a rifle to his head, there’s a landscape painting behind him. if you see this video DO NOT CLICK IT close the app/tab. the video is depicts a gruesome s*icide and it doesn’t censor anything. there’s also a possibility that this video is real as it’s affiliated with a “curse.” turn off auto play videos here on tumblr and on twitter. do not google the video or the numbers 1444 as some genius journalist decided to include the video in their article. steer clear of reddit as well. stay safe guys.

It looks very very real. Please do not watch it as it is EXTREMELY graphic and triggering. This is what the background looks like. Please be cautious.

I GO TO ANOTHER COLLEGE IN THE AREA AND THOUGHT THE SQUIRRELS WERE ONLY CRAZY HERE

Avatar

Do any other american high schoolers have intense survivor’s guilt and trauma with school shootings even though they weren’t at your school?

Like. A laser tag place opened geared towards teenagers and it got no business, we tried to enjoy it but when someone pointed a laser machine gun at me and I instinctively dropped behind the nearest wall and reached to turn off my phone I cried, I wasn’t the only one. The announcements system turns on at an unexpected time and everyone holds their breath until they say something besides “locks, lights, out of sight,” nobody even jokingly pops chip bags anymore, a door slammed really loud during a class change and everyone dropped and ran. Everyone cries during drills, even the toughest ranch kids. Every drill comes with a full day of teachers crying and telling us that they love us all so much and will die for us, and every kid in every class looking around wondering who would I die for? Who would die for me? You walk to the bathroom and wonder every second if it happens right now, where will I go? You test supply closet doors to see which ones are unlocked, you memorize which furniture in the teachers’ lounge your English teacher says is light enough to barricade a door with. The fire alarm goes off and nobody moves, instead you wait for gunshots—it a trap? You stand with a group of freshmen and realize that you’re the oldest, you know you’ll have to die for them. You forget your ID tag and worry that now the police won’t be able to tell your parents if you’re safe, or not safe. Your stats teacher has a baseball bat by the door, your math teacher keeps a stapler under each desk to throw, your drama teacher asks who will be willing to stand by the non-locking door with the Shakespearean swords. Your yearbook teacher tells you don’t worry about breaking a camera because you heard about the kids who died holding them. You don’t use the bathroom during classes because you don’t want to be the only target to shoot at. You keep your phone on silent 24/7 because you worry the one time you forget will be when you get your whole US History class killed. You have a snap saved with your class schedule and school and full name to send in an instant to your internet friends so they know if you were on that wing, you have a note saved with the things you want your mom to know and the things you’re sorry for. At the age of 12 I was told I needed to know who I would die for and that it was okay if it was nobody, that was my decision to make. School shootings control us more than adults and non-Americans could possibly imagine and nobody moves to change anything unless we’re actively screaming for it. Have you considered we’re too scared?

The absolute fuck. The fuck did I just read. This sounds like dystopian fiction. The fucking fuck.

It isn’t. This is 100% the reality of all American children - not the ones that live in bad neighborhoods, not the ones that make bad choices, ALL OF THEM.

Welcome to America.

This reminds me of a discussion we had in one of my classes the other day-

My professor was describing how everyone from her generation had the same nightmare of a nuke going off. In they dream they all saw the same mushroom cloud and everything. She said that she didn’t think my generation had a dream like that; one that everyone shared and had

For a while none of us could disagree with her. Until this popped up. I raised my hand and mentioned that everyone I knew had an active shooter dream at one point or another. And Every. Single. Person. Nodded. All of us had that dream. All of us.

Pretty telling, huh?

The mere notion that highschool children might have survivor’s guilt is sickening

Avatar

Thanks to recent political events me and many of my high school friends have had shooter dreams, nuke dreams, terrorist dreams (domestic ones), and quite a few others. The US today is a shithole full of dangerous people and events that will get people killed. There is a reason we are 128th in safety.
