Dark lashes FLUTTER as Veronica looks up at her companion, smile half-hidden behind painted nails and delicate fingers as a hand settles over her lips in amusement. She’d certainly DRESSED for a date—- though it’s not something that just ANYONE would have noticed, she’s switched out from her usual PRADA SAFFIANO & Saint Laurent bags to a Rebecca Minkoff clutch ( less likely to get in the way of any POTENTIAL physical contact ), and—- well, REALLY, this IS a new dress. ❝ Do you take ALL of your friends out to a movie & dinner, without letting them pay? ❞ She questions in return, eyes GLEAMING with an innocent kind of amusement.
“Cause, I’ve asked you b e f o r e.” And she seems insulted. But, he’s not sure why she’s insulted because she’s always the one who has the upper hand. “I have some nerve? You know what, forget it. I have no idea what I was thinking” He’s not making assumptions. He’s going off past behavior. She almost seemed jealous earlier. But, that’s been replaced with something closer to annoyance now.
“Why don’t you go back inside and dance with Archie and I’ll go back to having a good time with someone else. Then, I won’t be able to make any more assumptions about you.”
❝ You have the manners of a NEANDERTHAL!! ❞ Veronica declares, crossing her arms as her eyes narrow. She hadn’t STARTED this fight, but she can certainly f i n i s h it if necessary. “I wasn’t aware that you had noticed.” And she’s honestly full of it when she claims that he could’ve asked and she would’ve gone with him. She just enjoyed him chasing her. “You came with Arch. I see no reason why I shouldn’t have a good time with someone else.” He shrugged, looking her over for a moment. She looked great. But, he wasn’t surprised because this was Veronica. “You would’ve turned me down flat. So stop playing games with me. I’m tired.”
❝You seem very sure about that for someone who hadn’t even bothered to ASK.❞ Had she EXPECTED him to ask her to the dance? Maybe, maybe not. Had she expected him to complain to THIS extent after having not bothered to form any sort of proposal in the first place? Well-- it IS Reggie she’s dealing with, here. ❝I came with Archie because he asked me, not necessarily because I’m still i n t e r e s t e d in him.❞
Archie IS a wonderful person, but Veronica hardly thinks it would be fair on her part to date someone who looks at a certain blonde Barbie as if all of the STARS in the sky are in her eyes, and she’d told him that as soon as they’d left the dance floor to get some punch. She can only presume he’s speaking to Betty now, but isn’t feeling any sort of resentment-- in fact, she’s h a p p y for her friends. ❝You truly have some NERVE to have made so many assumptions about me, Reggie Mantle.❞ She can feel her hands slowly clenching into fists, but keeps her chin high, refusing to give in just yet.

Jug isn’t a stranger to nightmares, he really isn´t. With how messed up his life ( and he himself ) is that´s really not a surprise. He´s learned to live with them, because there´s nothing he can do about them, but he doesn´t want anyone else to suffer from them. Especially not people he cares about and yes, someone Veronica Lodge has turned into a person he CARES about.
Quite A LOT, actually.
He waits for her to join him in the bed, to tell him what´s been bugging her ( what´s REALLY bugging her anyways ) and when she joins him Jug shifts aside to make more room. The bed is too big for him anyways and while it´s nice to sleep in an actual bed it´s still…STRANGE on occasions.
When she finally begins to talk Jug simply listens, understanding just why this is bugging her.
“It was a terrible sight, Veronica.” He watches as she slumps back at the pillows. “I think it would be weird if you didn´t feel HAUNTED. I see it too, sometimes.” He then confesses. What they had witnessed had been a terrible thing and Jug had to admit it wasn´t easy to forget, much like everything else they had gone through during the last couple of weeks.
“Listen.” He then speaks, reaching out to take her hands into his ( before he can think too much about it anyways ). “I´m going to be honest: You´ll probably NEVER forget about these images…but…they´ll fade. As time passes they´ll just be a faint memory and they won´t seem as haunting. Trust me, I can account for that.” Jug holds back a sigh. “I KNOW that won´t help you much now, but…you´re strong, Ronnie. You´ll get through this,”
❝When?❞ Veronica asks, voice barely lifting above a whisper as her gaze drops to look down at their joined hands. Something in her chest FLUTTERS, but she ignores it for the moment. ❝Aren’t you t i r e d of feeling so-- so SCARED?❞ And that’s the million dollar question, isn’t it? She isn’t just scared of the more OBVIOUS matters at hand, either; the town had shifted with the unveiling of Jason’s murderer, had spilled so MANY of its inhabitant’s secrets, that Veronica is almost afraid that she’ll be next.
And then, of course, there was Jason himself. She hadn’t even KNOWN him, but it hadn’t changed the fact that the footage of his murder had been absolutely h a r r o w i n g. And to think, his FATHER had pulled the trigger... With everything that Veronica has uncovered about her own parents, she can’t help but wonder if Hermione or Hiram would do the same, under similar circumstances.
His impending return to town hasn’t helped alleviate her fears much (if at all), either.
She squeezes his hands, now, desperate to continue to have something to hold onto, before taking a deep breath. Her next words barely lift above the volume of a whisper. ❝It’s just... Hard to feel safe in this town-- this APARTMENT, even.❞
He’s out in the hallway. He needs a minute. He’s been partying since the dance started. He’s also been trying to ignore Ronnie. But, she’s never too far out of his line of sight, no matter who he’s dancing with or what girl he chats up. “Funny seeing you out here. Shouldn’t you be inside dancing with wonderboy or has he gone off with goldilocks for the moment?”
Wonderboy-- that’s a good one. Veronica can see herself as Megara, but doesn’t quite think that they’re DESTINED to be together in this particular version of the story. ❝I didn’t think you were all too concerned about what I did and didn’t do with Archie, considering your many... d i s t r a c t i o n s out on the dance floor.❞ And, of course, Veronica Lodge isn’t JEALOUS, but she IS a little disgruntled with his less than welcome behaviour. ❝You know, Reggie, if you wanted me to come with you tonight, all you had to do was ASK.❞
