Check out our latest behind the scenes blog: LINK IN OUR INSTAGRAM STORY! Behind The Scenes Of Gargoyles (1972). How Del Armstrong, Ellis "Sonny" Burman Jr., and Stan Winston created gargoyles, got credit for it, and shared an Emmy Award for outstanding achievement in makeup. A CAREER-LAUNCHING TV MOVIE Stan Winston emerged from the three-year long Walt Disney Studios makeup apprenticeship program in February 1972 trained and possessing a marketable skill, but only marginally better off than when he’d first arrived in Hollywood to ‘make it’ as an actor. Joining the ranks of makeup artists working in the entertainment industry was somewhat less competitive a feat than establishing an acting career, but, even so, as a novice, Winston did not have the experience, the contacts, or the résumé to attract jobs. Finding work would require guts and chutzpah - and he had limitless supplies of both. Even before completing his apprenticeship, he had made the rounds of the three major television networks, introducing himself to the heads of the makeup departments there and picking up whatever small makeup assignments he could to supplement the money he made working in the mailroom at Disney. “I did beauty makeups for game shows, variety shows, and things like that,” Winston said. “All of this was just freelancing, but, through that freelance work, I got to know a lot of the makeup artists in television, which helped me get work once I had finished my apprenticeship. I never sat around and waited for work to come to me. I was always proactive about things.” Read the full story - LINK IN OUR INSTAGRAM STORY! #gargoyles #stanwinston #behindthescenes #70smovies https://instagr.am/p/CK7iXGCJQiv/

Did you know? Before @toolmusic, @adamjones_tv was a sculptor and special effects designer. He learned the stop motion camera techniques he would later apply in Tool's music videos, such as "Sober", "Prison Sex", "Stinkfist", "Ænema", "Schism", "Parabola", and "Vicarious". He started to work at @ricklazzarini's @thecharactershop. During the next couple of years, he worked on the Monsters TV show. He designed and fabricated a Grim Reaper makeup and a zombie head on a spike (later used in Ghostbusters II) among others. After that, he went to Stan Winston Studio, where he worked on Predator 2, Jurassic Park, Terminator 2: Judgment Day. #adamjones #artist #specialeffets #terminator2 #predator2 https://instagr.am/p/CK6qM2cJMFa/
