Jonny-sensei can you pls talk about why Robin and Luffy's friendship is so fucking important and precious? I am always sad to not find much content on their dynamics in the fandom so I would love to hear you ramble about them if you feel like it :D

strawhat relationship meta? strawhat relationship meta about two of my favorite characters? Don’t Mind If I Do.

luffy is, from what we see, the first person in twenty years to decide robin’s life has value on its own, independent of the knowledge she has. when we meet her, she’s been hunted for two decades by the government for her knowledge, by people who never once saw her as a person, only as a criminal, a demon child.

even her long-term partner crocodile didn’t actually place any value on her beyond her helpfulness, given he shanks her the instant she’s no longer useful. and it’s plainly clear robin herself has reached the end of her rope when it comes to valuing herself as well- with her final failure in alabasta, she’s ready to just give up and die and take ohara’s legacy with her.

she wants to just lay down in the catacombs of alubarna and just fucking die. and luffy, at this point, doesn’t even know who she is. he doesn’t know she’s the last survivor of ohara, doesn’t know she’s the only person alive who can read the poneglyphs, doesn’t know the government and the yonkou would both tear the world apart looking for her, and he definitely doesn’t care. he just knows he kind of likes her and doesn’t want her to die, and she’s saved him twice now, and that’s enough.

and when she shows up on the ship and says she’s joining the crew, while the rest of the crew (bar sanji) are all in various states of suspicion or panic at first, luffy just shrugs and says it’s okay. he says he thinks she’s a good person. how long do you think it had been since anyone sincerely told robin she was a good person? i’m willing to bet not since ohara fell. luffy gives her something she hasn’t had since her home island burned, just by genuinely liking and caring about her.

neither luffy nor robin know when they meet that robin is the one person in the world who can certainly find the way to laugh tale, and i think it’s important that they don’t. luffy doesn’t really have anything to gain by befriending robin. he just likes her, and he keeps liking her, even after she tries to leave the crew and after he learns all about her history and all the baggage she brings with her.

luffy doesn’t know she’s essential to reaching the one piece, and he doesn’t care that she’s hunted and hated by the most powerful entity in the world. all he cares about is that she’s cool and smart and good and his friend, and that wins him the everlasting loyalty of the one surefire key to his dream.

Okay, so I'll probably make a longer post about these eps on my dreamwidth later but first: in the devil's chord the doctor is like "oh I thought that was non-digetic" at one point and I am loosing my mind over that because it implies that the doctor can hear the background music and like. god the implications the implications like I can't really think of any specific examples/moment but god I need fic of this

Love how Spy x Family basically flips around the “Spy as an International Ladies’ Man who leaves a trail of broken hearts in his wake” trope to basically be, “Do you know how lonely and physically and mentally exhausting it is to have to not just fake relationships but also actively have to cut them short for both others’ safety and yours?” And even in the case of “Ladies can’t resist this guy!” (as in, women consistently hitting on Loid or having crushes on him) it’s almost always more of a liability for Loid than anything else. Like, you have this irony that because both he and Yor agree their relationship is transactional and fake makes it probably one of the most honest and mutually respectful relationships Loid has been in in years.

I recently caught up with the latest chapters of spy x family and woah I have a thing to say

So, we can probably all agree that Yuri noticing that Loid’s arm was twitching and checking him for an injury is the closest thing we’ve had so far to this whole spies and secrets thing coming into the open, right?

Well, I wanted to wax poetic about what this scene might represent for a moment.

Twilight, as we know in these chapters, is struggling with his own ‘weakness’ (ie his actual wants as a member of the Forger family to not break up/ hurt the family unit which includes Yuri). This weakness is personified by the wound on his arm. The injury is proof that he is human, that despite Twilight’s best intentions, he is not perfect…

But the thing is, he’s only just barely covering all of this up.

The wound on his arm is the personification of the ‘weakness’ and feelings of Loid Forger, the family man, the one who truly cares about Yor and Anya. Which means that Twilight is the disguise he uses to cover up that part of himself.

I know the expression is to ‘put on a face’ but that’s literally what he’s doing here. He’s attempting to hide his true feelings, which yeah sure is a thing he does all the time, but the thing about it this time is that this ‘weakness’, his true feelings, are still showing through. They are still noticeable.

Twilight falling to his knees in front of Yor is a perfect example of this. His true feelings (feeling safe and relaxed around his wife) leaking through.

And he doesn’t dress the wound before coming home either. Which in this metaphor would be equivalent to addressing and trying to understand his ‘weakness’, but instead he ignores it. Slaps a disguise over it and leaves it to be ignored.

The cover-up Twilight puts on his wound is the same as the lies he tells himself. They are thin, and easy to break, and have to be consciously put on by Twilight.

Because now Loid Forger is the man, Twilight is the mask.

finally got around to watching ep6 and i am FASCINATED by how well it demonstrates yor and loid's differing talents and priorities. yor is extremely good at using ingenuity to kill/incapacitate threats on sight (especially in a discreet manner), and yet she isn't actually able to identify other assassins, nor is she wary of listening devices at all. then you cut to loid and realize that he's already clocked all the listening devices and suspicious characters all around the boat, and the only reason he hasn't taken care of them or investigated is simply because he doesn't think they're a threat to him (which is reasonable - his presence on the cruise was last minute, all the listening devices seem to be indiscriminate, and none of the suspicious people have paid any attention to loid since he got on the boat).

i think the fact that yor recognizes "bloodlust" and loid recognizes "suspicious activity" really highlights how different their training is: yor needs to be on guard against people who want to kill her, while loid's job as a spy requires him to catch small details that expose other spies. they both notice the threats in different ways, and had loid and yor been working together to protect olka and her son, they would have covered each other's blind spots beautifully - loid would've immediately spotted threats like the assassins in the crowded room, leaving yor to deal with them quickly and quietly. i'm looking forward to seeing what a power couple they are once all the secrets are out and they can finally work as a team.

SPOILERS FOR SPY X FAMILY: CODE WHITE

So I've just seen the new Spy x Family movie twice, and it's gotten me curious as to what y'all's opinions are on a specific part.

There are two parts of the movie where Loid and Yor's thoughts are hidden from us:

  • Firstly, at the ferris wheel, she asks if they are flirting aggressively, causing both parents to look away while we hear the special jingle, meaning her telepathy was activated. We never actually hear what either one of them were thinking though.
  • Secondly, when Loid looks at Anya after realizing that the reason she left the hotel room was to get the cherry liquor that they needed. Again, we hear her jingle but never what she is picking up.

Both instances led to Anya looking really happy, so it's safe to assume that, in both instances, they were good thoughts, but I'm curious as to what they actually were.

Something something about the symbolism of that last scene in the Spy x Family movie with the Forgers at the fountain and the shot of Loid being seperated from Anya and Yor by the water just for it to stop and the three of them being united at the end

Seems like this chapter just about wrapped up the Mole Hunt arc. I decided to analyze a bit more than I usually do with my chapter reviews since there was a lot to talk about on the Twiyor front!

When Fiona questioned Twilight about not killing Yuri, he gave his official "for the mission" reason, but slipped up by calling Yor "Yor-san" instead of "Yor Briar." This made it obvious to Fiona (who already knows about him softening) that he's trying desperately hard to cover up those feelings. Even though this would have been a good opportunity for her to imply that she's a better fit for the wife role, she doesn't even try because she knows Twilight would defend "Yor-san" in every subtle way he could.

When he gets home and finds out that Yor doesn't actually have gripes with him, he's relieved of that last load of stress and is finally able to relax, causing him to collapse (similar to the very first chapter when he collapsed after Anya passed the Eden entrance exam). After he realizes how utterly exhausted he is, he can't help but ask Yor to help out with his housework.

Her reply is what really makes everything sink in for him - despite all his attempts to be a flawless spy, she doesn't want him to be that way. She's happy when she can be useful to him and thinks it's bad if he pushes himself to be perfect all the time.

And yet, that's exactly what he has to be in order to survive as a spy. The fact that he had to ask someone for help with simple housework, plus someone telling him that he doesn't have to be perfect, made him recall the feeling he had when he looked into Wheeler's eyes...that he lives in a world where you have to be perfect in order to survive, and having any kind of weakness just won't due.

While Twilight continues to be clueless about Fiona's feelings for him among other things, what he does realize at the end of this arc is his own feelings - that he does have a weakness. He's beginning to understand more than ever that a spy can't afford to be anything but perfect. And yet, his refusal to kill Yuri, which is a result of him caring about Yor (even though he gave Fiona his usual "for the mission" reason, she saw right through it) is conflicting him even more.

I also have to point out how considerate Yor was of Loid's exhaustion - she completely pushed Yuri away, even after noticing he was injured. She didn't even invite him to stay and have tea with them!

What Twilight was about to say to Yor (in his mind) before Yuri interrupted is debatable, but going by his previous line of thought, it was probably something bittersweet like "which is why...once Operation Strix is over, I'll have to leave the Forgers" or possibly something more immediate, where he now realizes how compromised he truly is and so might reconsider the stipulations of Operation Strix even before it's over. Though I think it's more of the former since his thoughts in the shower in the next scene make it seem like he's not ready to do anything drastic yet, but the idea is still gnawing at him.

Fiona had noticed his leaking emotions way back when she was first introduced, but this is the first time Twilight himself is realizing it and not denying it. Whether anything major will change in his actions from now on is yet to be seen. Will there be another aftermath chapter or two with Twilight still being jostled by this realization? Or will things go back to normal now and he'll brush those feelings aside for another day? It seems like Yuri has been totally thrown off the scent, so his identity should be safe for the time being. Will Anya get to read his mind the next morning and finally find out everything that happened? The next new chapter won't be out for another 4 weeks, so brace yourself for a grueling wait!

Chapter 86 of the Spy x Family manga is so satisfying if you remember that in all the previous Twiyor scenes you had a very stressed, distrustful and frustrated Twilight for not being able to understand his wife and a very disappointed Yor with herself for not being help her husband. Watching Twilight thinking about:

"Oh no my wife may be an agent sent to trick me... I can't let my guard down!"

"Oh, my wife is mad at me for asking her to do the shopping, I'm incompetent!!… She's going to leave me!!

"I can't even cheer up my wife when she's upset! She only hates me more!"

"….Oh no. Isn't my wife madly in love with me? Did she goad me into my honey trap? She must be an agent sent to trick me??!"

"My wife has a problem with me?! Are you unhappy with our life?! Surely she is behind the door waiting for me adorably furious"

"Don't trust yourself, Twilight! Behind that smile there must be an irrepressible anger!! You're relaxing, Twilight!!"

While Yor's pretty head is a bundle of insecurities

"Loid is distant this morning, surely he must think that I am a terrible wife"

"I am a failure of a wife" …. "She will surely replace me"

"…They're a bunch of brute force…it's the only thing I'm good for"

"Hurry, I have to complain about my husband who is waiting for me to complain"

Among so many misunderstandings, it is the first time that we FINALLY see Loid and Yor talking formally about this problem, about their mutual and personal distrust and realizing that no problem between them is as big as they think (when you speak from the heart)

Yor mistrusts herself because she feels that she is a failure of a wife by not being able to take care of Loid anymore, because her wishes have never been to leave them, but rather to be there forever to receive them with a smile. She knows that she will always take care of Anya and will give her as many hugs as she asks for.

But until now, her husband, too serious, has never wanted to ask her for help, but on the contrary, fill himself with so much work that he makes her feel left out (accidentally). She just wishes that he would "trust her a little more, even if she's not as perfect as him."

Because Yor wants to be valued and loved by her family even if she burns a few shirts or serves an indigestible dinner... Because you just want to be there to take care of them

Because she knows that the world is very hard and in the end Loid (Twilight) is a man who is exhausted, with pain in his stomach and shaky legs because of how stressful it is to bring peace to the world, and take care of his daughter's smile. .

Trusting in Yor at the end of the day is the light at the end of so much darkness in his life, it is a relief after so much stress.

Even if for him his wife (and daughter) are (still) his biggest weakness. He may one day see that they are his greatest strength.

This talk in the privacy of their home may be a very small step for Loid and Yor, but a giant step for Twiyor.

i’m gonna write down all of the people who are rooting for luffy and/or if he asked would probably help him out with little to no hesitation bc it’s actually insane.

First, Shanks. An Emperor of the sea. His entire crew. They’re all rooting for Luffy to become King of the Pirates.

Next, Koby. A future admiral of the marines! (he will be one.)

Multiple high ranking members of the revolutionary army. The top two ranking members being his father and brother.

Like 4 (ex) warlords?? Boa and Jimbei are obvious. Mihawk is 100% rooting for Zoro so he counts. Crocodile is literally his mom so…

Kuma is literally both of those combined and he knew from the beginning that Luffy was gonna be great.

Multiple Whitebeard commanders (and we all know Whitebeard himself believed it)

Multiple islands??? Whole islands are rooting for Luffy.

Giants⁉️😭

The right hand man of the PIRATE KING.

more probably

Ok it's very funny to laugh at Tuxedo Mask for showing up and doing nothing, but his job was never to actually fight the monsters.

His job was just to show up and believe in Sailor Moon so overwhelmingly resolutely that she remembers she's a fucking demigod long enough for HER to fight the monsters.

Because she's the only one strong enough to do it in the first place, and in this regard Tuxedo Mask is the first example of being "Kenough" in this essay I will
