canada is currently considering banning imidacloprid, which is apparently “one of the most widely used bee-killing pesticides in the world”. this seems pretty huge, so if you’ve got two seconds, add your name to the list! as of posting this link, they need just over 8,000 more signatures by february 21!

I DON’T CARE IF YOU’RE AMERICAN PLEASE REBLOG THIS SO THAT OTHER CANADIAN USERS CAN SEE IT

COMPLETELY OFF TOPIC BUT THIS IS IMPORTANT TO ME

Please read this post

Y'all I just woke up to my whole community freaking out over an INCOMING MISSILE THREAT

I’d like y'all to take a step back and fucking think about how incompetent and inane the people running this country are when something like this can happen

For those who don’t know, it literally happened about 20 min ago, there was a message broadcast saying that a Korean missile was inbound for Hawaii

I was getting so many freaked out messages and people were crying and people thought they were about to DIE

The only reason me& my family were skeptical was because the damn bomb siren by my house was not going off

Then around 20 min later we got this message

The fucking incompetents of the people who “accidentally” sent this alert (I assume civil defense)

This isn’t just some fucking “mistake” as they put it, it’s probably as bad of a “mistake” as you can make. When people are crying and calling me and asking if it’s gunna be okay and fucking confessing things to me before they are (to their knowledge) about to die, then only are to find out the multiple alerts are just “mistakes” THATS A HUGE FUCKING PROBLEM

IM SICK AND TIRED OF THE AMERICAN FORCES GETTING A PASS ON THEIR BULLSHIT BECAUSE IT MEANS THIS SHIT CAN HAPPEN

IT MEANS THAT THIS SHIT HAPPENED AROUND HALF AN HOUR AGO AND I HAVENT SEEN ANY OFFICIAL APOLGIES OR EVEN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FROM THE MILITARY, CIVIL DEFENSE, OR THE GOVERNMENT BESIDES A SIMPLE MESSAGE READING “ it was a mistake”

There isn’t even a “breaking news” section on YouTube for fucks sake

Just goes to show that Hawaii is thought of as nothing but land

No culture, no people, to America it’s just land valuable enough to protect for its convenience, but the people mean nothing

Don’t worry America, we forgive you for illegally annexing us, and killing our culture, and our native people, and using our land for money, and doing your own uranium bomb testing right here over our sacred mountain and our delicate watershed, so thanks for threatening us with nuclear bombs, fucking thanks

  • professors are urging their students to let them know if theyre not gonna come to class so theyll know that theyre still alive
  • parents are telling their kids not to come home late, or if they will, to take an uber even though its priced like 5x more
  • people are sharing constitutional rights on twitter, to teach everyone what to say to the popos just in case
  • nobody trusts the police anymore
  • police have a QUOTA of “drug addicts” they need to kill
  • almost 13k dead without due process, but chines drug lords and presidents son who were involved in a drug smuggling worth 6 billion are still walking free
  • all it takes is a facebook rumor to put you on the hit list
  • politicians who are criticizing the administration are being impeached
  • politicians who love the administration admit that their duty is to the president, NOT to the people
  • theres been talks in extending the presidents term
  • It literally feels like an unofficial dictatorship
  • please help us

does anyone have any news sources and dates for people to be better informed??

I’m producing and directing a short coming-of-age drama film for my thesis, titled ‘Marisol’.

Summary: Set in Western Sydney, a teenage Filipina immigrant - Marisol - lives with her aging lola (‘grandmother’). Along with her childhood bestfriend-turned-lover, Danica, she processes her feelings of place and memory after she receives a postcard from her estranged mother back in her homeland.

This came from a concept I’ve been dreaming of for years. As a queer Filipina from immigrant parents, it also comes from personal stories of memory, connection and diaspora.

I would really appreciate it if you could donate whatever you can, if you can! I also would appreciate if you could just share this around. Your enthusiasm and support of my dreams means the world to me.

Jonah Deocampo grew up in Los Angeles in the 1990s, one of the estimated 3 million members of the Filipino diaspora in the United States. At 15, he got involved with Filipino street gangs, which eventually led to an arrest for armed robbery. At that point — on what he describes as the “advice” of a judge — he joined the Marines.

Today, he’s Bambu DePistola: a community activist and rapper with a committed following in underground hip-hop circles. Bambu’s message is uncompromising — for some, uncomfortably so — and he’s begun to attract more widespread attention through opening shows for Common and collaborating with Killer Mike of Run The Jewels.

Bambu spoke with NPR’s Michel Martin about his youth in LA, why hip-hop appealed to him as the child of immigrants and how he’s responded to critics who say his music is too negative. Hear their full conversation at the audio link, and read on for an edited transcript.

Michel Martin: Let’s start with the art. Did you grow up thinking of yourself as an artist, as a rapper?

Bambu: No, for me, especially, it just started with rapping about the gang and the neighborhood and the things we were doing, and reflecting that back to the neighborhood homies. And we would freestyle — where you just improv — and I found that I had a knack for that, and I practiced over and over again. It wasn’t until I got out of the military that I really pursued it as a career.

To acknowledge Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month, I think we should spread the word that the word Hapa should be reserved only for mixed race Hawai'ians. Hijacking a word that represents a specific group of people is appropriation.

just like a casual psa: as a filipino born and raised in the philippines, nothing pisses me off more than my ethnicity being collectively called “filipinx” like. we are not latinxs whose language is gendered or whose language history has led to the wide acceptance of the use of “latinxs”. filipino is a gender neutral language. we don’t use “she” or “he” for pronouns, we simply use “siya”. we don’t use the words “wife” or “husband”, we simply use “asawa”. FILIPINO IS A GENDER NEUTRAL LANGUAGE. stop applying western standards to make up some new collective term for filipinos. our identity as a people is fucked enough as it is with colonial mentality. nobody from the philippines actually uses “filipinx” in reference to themselves. using “-x” as a suffix in an attempt to be gender neutral while referring to my ethnicity as a whole does more harm than good bc it makes it seem like my own language is not enough when it, in fact, is. why make up a new term under the guise of gender neutrality when the language itself is already gender neutral to begin with? it doesn’t make sense.

if you wanna identify as “filipinx” bc of diasporia, that’s cool. that’s for YOU. but all i ask is to not use it to collectively refer to my ethnicity as a whole. it feeds into the colonial mentality that is so ingrained in our culture, where many filipinos conform to western standards in everything, from language to fashion to beauty, and it needs to end. we don’t need westerners making it harder for us to embrace ourselves. it’s hard enough as it is.

back in 2015, tumblr made me start using “filipinx” to refer to my people under the guise of gender neutrality. this made me forget this small but significant part of my own culture. it made me forget my own language. thank god there were people who made me stop and think and get out of the western mentality that is so deeply ingrained in me by society. what i don’t understand is how this trend is still being used to this day.

just. please. it’s 2017. call us who we are: filipino.

and to further my point, this has been already discussed here. if you’re one of the people still using ‘filipinx’ as a blanket term for my entire ethnicity, i beg you to read the link and understand.

TL;DR: please do not refer to all filipinos as “filipnx/pilipinx,” that’s not how our language works.

please DO use filipinx or pilipinx to refer to an individual who has stated that they’re comfortable with the word.

#Repost @lanewilcken ・・・ HAPPY DEATH of MAGELLAN DAY. 496 years ago today, the Mactan chieftain Lapu-Lapu & his men killed Magellan & drove off the rest of the Spaniards. Unfortunately this was not the end of the Spanish influence in our islands. Now nearly 500 years of cultural genocide later, it is our responsibility to reclaim our ancestral traditions & identity. (FYI: I recolored this photo to make their headbands and bahag RED the color of a Warrior’s prowess. In the original painting they were wearing white which would have been inappropriate since it was reserved for funerals and mourning.) . <<◇>><<◇>><<◇>><<◇>><<◇>><<◇>><<◇>> #KATAOlivingtraditions #FilipinoTattoosAncienttoModern #ForgottenChildrenofMaui <<◇>><<◇>><<◇>><<◇>><<◇>><<◇>><<◇>>

Lakad 5K For Peace: Walkathon Fundraiser for Peace in the Philippines

On April 29, 2017, the National Alliance for Filipino Concerns (NAFCON) and the International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines (ICHRP), and Kapit Bisig Kabataan Network (KBKN) will hold the 2nd Annual LAKAD 5k for Peace walkathon fundraiser in Los Angeles. Last year, we were able to raise over $6,000 to help build a water system that provides water to over 300 Talaingod Manobo, a Lumad (indigenous) group from Mindanao, Philippines.

The Talaingod Manobo and other Lumads are building schools and improving their livelihood all while resisting multinational mining and logging corporations encroaching on their ancestral land.  The 47 year civil war between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) and National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) has also affected the Lumad as the Armed Forces of the Philippines have wrongfully tagged Lumad environmental and indigenous rights activists as “NPA rebels,”  targeting them for militarization, harassment, and political killings.  Now more than ever, the success of the GRP-NDFP peace talks and socio-economic reforms would mean upholding human rights and an end of hostilities against the Lumad communities caught in the armed conflict.  The GRP-NDFP Peace Talks have to succeed in order for the Lumad and all Filipinos to live in a country where peace, justice, and human dignity are upheld.

The funds raised this year will go towards Salupongan Schools and promoting Peace and Justice in the Philippines through the JustPeacePH and Kababayan4Change platforms.
