CHRIS CHAMBERS WAS TWELVE WHEN HE SAID ALL THAT TO ME. but while he was saying it his face crumpled & folded into something 𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫, 𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐭, 𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔. he spoke tonelessly, colourlessly, but nevertheless, what he said struck terror into my bowels. it was as if he had lived that whole life already - that life where they tell you to step right up & spin the wheel of fortune, & it spins so pretty & the guy steps on a pedal & it comes up double zeros, house number, everybody loses. they give you a free pass & then turn on the rain machine, pretty funny, huh, ᴀ ᴊᴏᴋᴇ ᴇᴠᴇɴ ᴠᴇʀɴ ᴛᴇssɪᴏ ᴄᴏᴜʟᴅ ᴀᴘᴘʀᴇᴄɪᴀᴛᴇ.

i think a lot about how chris came from this horrifically abusive family where his father was an abusive drunk, his eldest brother was in jail for attempted r*pe, his elder brother abused him, & his mother frequently abandoned her kids to save herself ——– but despite all that, he’s constantly said to be the group’s peacemaker, & the embodiment of sunshine, & warm & bright & magnetic, & wholly selfless, even to the point of anger if he thinks you’re wasting your potential. for someone to flourish like that & keep that gentleness & that kindness despite growing in such tainted soil . . . idk i just think about this a lot

#like no matter the family he grew up in #he'd be warm and loving #but to be that way even when your family AND THE ENTIRE TOWN is telling you you CAN'T be that way .... #idk it just Says Something about the strength of his character u know ?? #he never even had a go at teddy for romanticising the man who nearly killed [ teddy ] #nor did he ever have a go at teddy romanticising the very thing that gave [ teddy's dad ] ptsd #he just let teddy .... love his father and the *rmy ... and the only time chris said anything bad about it #was a warning about teddy not being able to get into the army if #he had a criminal record #idk i just think a lot about how much he cares for other people #and how no one IN SK CANON shows him that back #NO ONE #not even GORDON
