Writers are great, no matter what they do. They update every week or once in a blue moon? Great! They write long fics, short fics, drabbles, headcannons, a book, short stories, poems? Wonderful! They’ve been writing for years or just started? Perfect! Give writers the respect and love they deserve.

Humans are adorable.

Supporting evidence:

1. Humans say ‘ow’, even if they haven’t actually been hurt. It’s just a thing they say when they think they might have been hurt, but aren’t sure yet.

2. Humans collect shiny things and decorate their bodies and nests with them. The shinier the better, although each individual has a unique taste for style and colouring

3. Humans are not an aquatic or even amphibious species, but they flock to bodies of water simply to play in it. They can’t even hold their breath all that long; they just love to splash!

4. When night falls and the sky goes dark, humans become drowsy and begin to cocoon themselves in soft, fluffy bedding.

5. Some humans spend time in each other’s nests! Just for fun! It’s not their nest; they’re just visiting each other.

6. Some humans use pigments and dyes to make their bodies flashy and colourful! They even attach shiny dangly bits to their cartalidgous membranes!

7. Humans are very clever, and sometimes adopt creatures from other species into their family units. They don’t seem to notice the obvious differences, and often raise them alongside their own young!

8. If a human sees another creature in distress, they can commonly be observed trying to help! Even at their own risk, most humans are deeply compassionate creatures!

9. If a human hears a particularity catchy sound or tune, it will often mimic it, even to the point of annoying themselves!

10. Sneezes are entirely involuntary, and completely adorable. Especially when the human in question becomes frustrated

11. Humans love treats!!! Some more than others. Many humans will save these treats specifically for a later date when they are in need of comfort or reassurance. IE, pickles, pop tarts, Popsicles, etc

12. They’re learning to travel in space!!! They can’t get very far, but they’re trying!!! So far, they’ve made it to the end of their yard, and have found rocks

Story idea when you try to actually write it:

Story idea when you first rewrite it:

Getting closer to what you saw in your head, eh? Keep at it!

Your story when somebody else sees it:

hhhhhHHHHHHH

(⚪д⚪)

This is a lovely post. It goes to show that when we percieve our own work, most of us have some type of insecurities about our own talents.

Also possibly relevant is that probably when Van Gogh finished Starry Night, he jumped up and down in frustration for a while because it didn’t look as good as it had in his head.

Tolkien used to complain that he could never write anything as well as he could imagine it.  So you know, ‘good enough’ is definitely a thing.

On the flip side, it is possible to get to that place where you’re satisfied with your work. To be able to see some of its flaws, but also see enough of its strength and enjoy it for what it is. You’re not doomed to forever think your vision of Starry Night is impossible to achieve, it honestly just changes as you develop your project. You used different brush strokes than you thought you would, found another way to give it texture, made unanticipated mistakes. By the end, you come out with something different than how you imagined it, but also beautiful for what it is.

And it’s not perfect, it’s not your Magnum Opus like you’d imagined, but you can see remnants of the original vision in there and can appreciate both how it changed and how it stayed true.

It’s not like this is an easy place to get to as a writer—years are involved, and no one ever really tells you how long that feels in creative terms—but it’s like any insecurity, right? When you have it, you’ve had it for so long you can’t imagine not having it, and maybe because of that or how long you’ve tried to get rid of it, it seems impossible for you (note the blame) to grow past it.

But it’s not about never feeling insecure in your writing, it’s about accepting the final product for what it is, and then maybe even loving it for what it is. Feeling secure in the fact that it’s not your last work, either, so you can be excited to take what you’ve learned and make some other beautiful idea into something different but still awesome.

Do you think we could’ve made it?“ She quietly asks him. He looks over at her, tracing every feature of her face like he had a million times before, and as his heart begins to beat to the rhythm of her short breaths, he turns away.  “Yeah,” He barely whispers. “Yeah, I think we could have.

My mom has done something incredible.

I want to tell you guys a story.

A few years ago, I came out to my mom the morning after my senior prom. She was surprised, then quiet, then asked what my real orientation was. I said, “I have no idea, but I like this one girl.” She was a little confused, but she kissed me and said, “As long as she makes you happy.” For the next few weeks, she asked a lot of questions: when did I realize? What was my new girlfriend’s orientation? What was the word for this or that? I WAS happy, right?

Fast forward about two years. My mom sits me down and tells me that she needs my help with her next book. She’s been writing middle-grade girls’ books (like, 9-14 range) since I was eight, and she says she has an idea that she really, really wants to get right. It follows the plot of Romeo and Juliet, she says, and the main character is a twelve-year-old girl realizing she has a crush on another girl when they put on the play for English class.

Fast forward another year to now. STAR-CROSSED is about to come out, and it is absolutely amazing.

My mom has poured her heart and soul into making sure this is a positive thing for kids to read. I’ve been reading and editing and helping with this book since its first draft and I’ve been, metaphorically and sometimes literally bouncing up and down on my heels, waiting to be able to tell people about it. It’s beyond sweet, and there’s a ton of Shakespeare and humor and goofy preteen drama and twelve-year-old girls flirting and Star Wars jokes and a glossary of Shakespearean insults in the back (yes, really), and it’s just so fun and positive and smart and I want to show it to every kid I know.

This book is for LGBT kids, written by a mom who has asked questions and done her research and tried as hard as she possibly could to make her own queer kid feel safe and loved and valid, and it REALLY shows. Mattie (the cutie on the left) and Gemma (the cutie on the right) are given space to learn about themselves, and ultimately they don’t have to figure themselves out right away or come out to everyone at once or choose a label. They’re kids. It’s okay to still be figuring things out. It’s okay.

Fun facts:

  • My mom said from the beginning she wanted both girls on the cover to make it clear what the book was about; then when they got the final artwork and Mattie’s hair was short, my mom wrote back and asked the artist to do the hair over to make it as obvious as possible that Mattie is a girl.
  • When a few people started buzzing about Mattie being the youngest bisexual protagonist they’ve seen, she went back and changed passages to confirm that Mattie likes boys and girls.
  • When I asked for a happier and less ambiguous ending scene, she set Mattie and Gemma up on a frigging date.

It comes out on March 14, 2017. Please join me in GETTING HYPE FOR STAR-CROSSED <3

EDIT: THE RESPONSE TO THIS POST HAS BEEN SO INCREDIBLE YOU GUY OH MY GOSH. The book has shot to #5 on Amazon’s Hot New Releases list because of you lovelies. If you want to preorder Star-Crossed you can do so here, and if you want to learn more or read reviews or send my mom a nice message you can do so from her site or Twitter. The more reviews it gets on Amazon and Goodreads - even single-sentence ones - the more it gets promoted. I LOVE YOU ALL

Turn your handwriting into a font

I discovered this by accident and I thought it was really funny and cute:

1. Download the template from MyScriptFont website

2. Write out the alphabet and numbers in your style, using a black marker (felt pen). This is mine:

3. Scan the template  4. Upload to the MyScriptFont website, name it, set the format and click “send file” 5. Download it to your computer and install

And check out my result!

reblogging for writers that want to invent their own font.

Also great for (web)comicartists that want their own font for their comics! =D

Can we set up an “event” type of thing for authors??

We’d collect a list of authors on Tumblr who get partnered with someone else and conduct interviews of each other(Whether it’s text format, a recorded interview, a video, whatever!) about their work in progress?

I honestly think it could be such a great way to help people boost their confidence in something they’ve been working so hard on!
